Sometimes, but not much in the past few years. Lately, I have been feeling like it was not done well, or that I wasn’t really forgiven or that it’s a waste of time and often walk away feeling quite discouraged from ever going again…
BUT, I take all these negative feelings to mean that Confession is an amazing sacrament that Satan hates so badly that he feels the need to try to discourage me from continuing.
We must have faith and not rely just on our feelings. As St. Ignatius teaches, we must practice the discernment of spirits, and sift through our feelings to recognize when the spirit of desolation is at work.
When we are facing our lives towards God and working to move closer to Him, we must continue on not just through consolation, but also (and even more so) when experiencing desolation.
So even though I often times leave Confession feeling nothing at best and discouraged at worst, I will still be in the Confession line on Saturday.
