After confession do you feel something? Like your soul is like light and you seem joyful than last time?

Personally? Not really… but then again my feelings are a bit stunted in certain ways… I feel no guilt whatsoever about receiving the Eucharist afterwards though.

Sometimes I feel as though a weight has been lifted from me and other times not so much. In either case, however, I know my sins have been forgiven.

No. I just feel relieved I got that out of the way for another 20 days. I usually then remember I forgot to confess some small sin or I worry I should have confessed some small sin from 35 years ago that just crossed my mind. I put these worries before God and usually manage to forget about it till it’s time to go again.

Confession to me will always be like a dental visit. I’m glad we have Confession just like I’m glad we have skilled, pain-free dental care. Doesn’t mean I feel all happy about either thing, though I would no doubt feel much, much worse if I didn’t have those things.

No, but I know it’s good for me and good for my relationship with God.

No warm fuzzies for me either, just a sense of relief and gratitude for having been absolved. Regular confession calms me, as I unfortunately tend to be rather 💥 without it. But no single confession on its own results in any particular effect.

Relief, joy, happiness, love.

I love Confession because of how I feel afterwards. It was in confession that I really discovered what God’s unconditional love means.

As bad as it may sound I’m jealous of the people who say how much better they feel after confession. I know we shouldn’t go for the feelings, but in my experience I always feel worse after confession. Feelings are a tricky subject…

It varies. Often there is a feeling of relief as if a weight has been lifted.

Sometimes, a nagging “unforgiven” feeling remains, something I’ve learned to ignore.

In all cases, there is peace of conscience.

No… I wish I felt something good. Mostly I just have to trust and be OK with the lack of feelings.

Sometimes, but not much in the past few years. Lately, I have been feeling like it was not done well, or that I wasn’t really forgiven or that it’s a waste of time and often walk away feeling quite discouraged from ever going again…

BUT, I take all these negative feelings to mean that Confession is an amazing sacrament that Satan hates so badly that he feels the need to try to discourage me from continuing.

We must have faith and not rely just on our feelings. As St. Ignatius teaches, we must practice the discernment of spirits, and sift through our feelings to recognize when the spirit of desolation is at work.

When we are facing our lives towards God and working to move closer to Him, we must continue on not just through consolation, but also (and even more so) when experiencing desolation.

So even though I often times leave Confession feeling nothing at best and discouraged at worst, I will still be in the Confession line on Saturday.

@AveOTheotokos I admire your attitude when facing this. I hope one day I can say the same.

Yes! The burden of guilt (sin) is lifted…it is a very real lifting of weight!..
