Confessor suggested throwing holy water in my room

I have some rather old holy water. I asked my confessor during confession if it ever got old, he seemed to think not. I have it in a special container. He said throw it in all four directions. What does that do? I put a bit on my forehead I was told it forgave venial , or removed venial sin. We do this going in the parish, IDK if everyone does. I do when I remember which is most of the time.

The priest blessing the home is a good thing to do still.

Faith in God and the blessing the priest imparts through Jesus Christ. Satan hates it because it has been blessed and reminds him of Jesus’ power over him.

You could do what we did in the old days ie. have a small plastic font inside the front door and bless yourself as you leave and come home everyday.

An aunt just came back from a pilgrimage to Lourdes.

She gave me some water from there.

Is this water holy?

Use it with faith, knowing that the devil HATES it. It is through water that we are baptized into the Body of Christ and torn from the devil’s grasp.

But, do it with faith.

p.s. I would save some for crossing yourself (which the devil also hates) before going online or facing a daily challenge.

Oh, yes. It’s not “holy water” as in blessed water, which is just ordinary water blessed by a priest. Lourdes water is holy from Mary’s miraculous spring, and has healing qualities. People bathe in the water there in hopes of curing ailments or being strengthened in their faith lives. You can use it the same as holy water. Or put a little in your bath if you are feeling ill.

Faith is one of the virtues. Maybe I don’t have enough. I do need
to pray more and avoid sin more. These internet chat rooms are
what tempts me. Chats to people I enjoy, but some of it isn’t fit
to do. There are pics that are pornographic. Automatic sin unto
death. Whew.

I don’t think “throw” is the correct term. Sprinkle is better, as in “Moses sprinkled the blood of the covenant on the people” - kinda like that.

I see. The bottle I have says “Holy Water”. I screw the top off and put some on my finger and cross my forehead. With the “sprinkling”, He said put the top part up and he really said move your hand forward in the four directions.

You can get all the Holy water you want on one day of the year when you go to Mass and it’s Easter or such and there’s a blessing and all the water is blessed. I received an email from the Parish too they are wanting people who took palm leaves to return them to the parish. Ash Wednesday will soon be upon us. Maybe it’s burning them.

I used to use a child’s paintbrush before it went funny, now I use a toothbrush to sprinkle on doors etc.

Why don’t Protestants have holy water ?

Speaking only for myself, the idea of Holy Water I do find of some interest but not to the extent that I feel it is necessary for me in any way. As much as I love Catholicism, the water just doesn’t enter into what I feel I need to do to practice a proper Christian life. For me it’s just water with no special properties making it into something more. I like the rituals associated with it, it’s just not for me.
