That is not the case anymore. First communions at Confirmation have pretty much faded away in most parishes. Infants can receive, and in open communion parishes, of course any one can. In my experience, most parents let their children receive at the pre-school age.In the Episcopal church one needs to be confirmed before you are able to receive
communion so it definitely is not the equivalent of the protestant altar call. I was confirmed in 1967 or 1968 so I don’t know if one can be confirmed at a younger age.
