In the Episcopal church one needs to be confirmed before you are able to receive
communion so it definitely is not the equivalent of the protestant altar call. I was confirmed in 1967 or 1968 so I don’t know if one can be confirmed at a younger age.
in the Episcopal church.
That is not the case anymore. First communions at Confirmation have pretty much faded away in most parishes. Infants can receive, and in open communion parishes, of course any one can. In my experience, most parents let their children receive at the pre-school age.

I haven’t attended an Episcopal church since around 2003, so I have no idea what happens. It probably depends on the church and the particular priest doesn’t it?

My diocese confirms kids in the 2nd grade (age 7/8) and so many of them do not understand why they are being confirmed in the first place. Changing the age to middle school/high school age allows them to be more educated in their faith first of all then they with help from parents and religious education teachers/directors they can make a better decision on receiving the sacrament. I was confirmed at age 17, and understood the process even with faith formation of the 80’s/early 90’s not being the best at the time.

I would argue that diocese with teen confirmations don’t verify your thinking.
