I have seen confiteor in both the Missal and Divine Office. But how do I pray it alone? If I want to say completorium alone.

Doing the traditional version?

For the Confiteor you leave out “et tibi Pater” … “et te Pater” and put the “et” before “omnibus sanctis” and “omnes sanctos”. Thus:

Confiteor Deo omnipotenti, beatae Mariae semper Virgini, beato Michaeli Archangelo, beato Joanni Baptistae, sanctis Apostolis Petro et Paulo, et omnibus Sanctis: quia peccavi nimis cogitatione verbo, et opere: mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. Ideo precor beatam Mariam semper Virginem, beatum Michaelem Archangelum, beatum Joannem Baptistam, sanctos Apostolos Petrum et Paulum, et omnes Sanctos, orare pro me ad Dominum Deum Nostrum.

In the absence of a priest there are other minor changes as well, such as “Jube Domine” (Grant, Lord) instead of “Jube Domne” (Grant, Sir).

A useful website which gives you the whole office with or without a priest is:
divinumofficium.com

You just say it. It can be in Latin if you’re using the LOTH in Latin or the 1961 Divine Office, the versions are somewhat different. Or you can recite it in the vernacular.

I just say the opening verse, recite it (in Latin or French), and then the rest of the Office.

The Christian identity is a belonging to the Church, because to find Jesus outside of the Church is not possible. Pope Francis.

“The One you Seek, Seeks You.”

Now we just need to start reviewing the timeless, unchanging and unchangeable teaching about what the Church is and what “outside of the Church” means, so that more and more people, whether they consider themselves Christians or not, will finally start belonging to the Church. One step at a time.

Then what about the misereatur?
You say that too. Remember that the confiteor and the misereatur at Compline are not a sacrament but rather a sacramental. That is, they do not confer a valid absolution in the nature of the sacrament of reconciliation. Even nuns, in the absence of a priest, will say it at Compline.

Great replies. I must confess that I was tempted to be a bit of a “smart mouth” by saying “one word at a time”. Forgive me. 😊

Then what about the misereatur?
Without a priest, it’s misereatur *nostri *(on us) … nostris.

Get the full text here (actually you have to click on the circles for certain prayers, to get the full text…it kind of assumes you know them by heart).
