Hi,
I’ve gone to two masses at the University I attend this year and I saw what I’m told are liturgical abuses. I’m planning on having a meeting about this with the religous who organizes the masses.
The first time I went people gathered around the alter for the Eucharistic Prayer and then, during the Our Father, everyone held each other’s hands. After everyone received the Eucharist, the priest told everyone to stand up who’s birthday it was this week. A few people stood as the priest then instructed everyone to sing happy birthday to those standing leading the congregation to burst out in singing the song.
The second time I went to mass, at the University, the homily was omited entirely and instead college students stood up and talked about their retreat experience. The same thing happened with people standing around the alter during the Eucharistic Prayer and holding hands during the Our Father like last time. Fortunately, this time there was no happy birthday singing.
Can someone point me to quotes from Church documents to plead my case?
Thank You
