Please - I did not say repeated prayers are wrong. They are not in and of themselves, and if you can do them with heart and mind, it’s OK. No argument, it’s just not for me.

As for revelations like Fatima, I think Galatians 1:8-9 gives us warning of such things.

Things like this are not clear where they are from, unless you take them at face value. The message is not*** clearly in line with scripture to me***, as Acts 4:12 seems to not concur with Fatima.

The enemy is powerful and sly - I choose to not play with things like this.

I am not trying to be a n-C, but that is what I see.

Fact is - even the church does not dogmatically declare Fatima as essential as far as I know, nor do they demand repeated prayers.

A little liberty on things that are not clear, please?
Hi again Markie.

That pretty much says it all. Your interpretation of scripture vs the Church.

I’m not big on apparitions either, but the Church has examined them and declared them to be OK for belief, so we can guarantee that this is not Satanic.

We have to understand Mary’s role as a instrument in our salvation. Yes Jesus saves us and to Him be all the adoration…this is Church teaching and you and all protestants would agree with it. But we also have several other people who contributed in the formation of the church. Mary being the ultimate of created beings as she bore God in her womb.(BTW this is her in REV 12) John the Baptist, the apostles and the blood of the early martyrs who refused to let the Church cease under heavy persecution. And more recently how about the Catholic priest who was beheaded in France by Isis monsters for refusing to deny the Lord? We should honor them and give them thanks for their great contribution to the early Church. They are part of the body of Christ and united to the Lord. so thanks to His great grace they preserved until the end…instruments used by God so that you and I, and all Christians everywhere can come to know Him freely worship Him where and when we choose.

I used to have a huge problem with the co-redemptrix label thrown out there at times by Catholics. Now I do not because I have a proper understanding of what is being said…one Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ, and many instruments used by Him, with Mary being the biggest instrument of all in regards to created beings…

Lenten Ashes - I wish you were at my parish. Once again you give me food for thought.

My parish is not in good shape, with leadership not even stopping the use God’s name wrongly at the church (a recent incident I was witness to), and then justifying letting it go.

I’ll think and study on what you have listed. My trust in the Catholic church is questionable at this point.

I do not agree with papal infallibility, and my study shows some of the bishops on the vote walked out. I bet all of them did not change their mind because they lost.

As I get in to the Catholic church, I see lot’s of division, much like the protestant world.

If they refused communion to all that use contraceptive, and didn’t believe in the real presence in the Eucharist - how many would receive on Sunday compared to now?

BTW - I did not receive this past weekend due to where I am at.

Sorry to be negative - and don’t want to steer the thread off course. I’ll save any other comments for a different thread if needed.

Thank you all.

Markie, thank you, friend.

I do not know your situation with this parish but it doesn’t sound ideal. 😦 If you have a charismatic parish in your area, it may be a good idea to attend there if at all feasible. To my understanding, RCIA is transferable to any valid Catholic parish. From my experience not all parishes are created equal, not by a long shot as people are typically a reflection of their leadership. In your situation it looks like maybe the Bishop needs to be contacted; though I would understand your hesitancy to get that involved when you are just in the learning stages yourself and not totally convinced. There does seem to be certain factions within the Church, but we are all under the same umbrella so it’s not at the same level of the protestant side. And I think the Church has now made a better effort to catechize it’s members, but I don’t know if this has always been the case as it does seem that some people are either totally uninformed about the Church teachings, or they just don;t give a hoot. 🤷

Not sure how long you have been on this journey but it took me a entire decade of on again, off again learning about the faith as I had a mountain of objections. I was not gonna sign up for RCIA unless I was like 90% convinced in my heart that it was the Truth. God knows your heart and appreciates your zeal for Him and the desire to make a difference in the Church. You are doing the right thing by staying in prayer and on this site as their are many informed opinions here. We have peaks and valleys in faith no matter where we are at in life. Praying for you now.🙂

A decade! We are similar. I have been on again off again for several years, and you can see where I am.

I’ll start a new thread on this later today. I love the Lord, and want to do his work, just having trouble doing it in the Catholic way.

Leaving this thread now, as I don’t want to steal someone else’s. Please keep an eye out later today for my other thread to pick this up.

Thank you, and God Bless,

Marc

Then you should get serious and REALLY study this, REALLY put it to the test … right?

Here is the definition of papal infallibility

*when,
*
    • in the exercise of his office as shepherd and teacher of all Christians,
    • ***in virtue of his supreme apostolic authority, ***
    • ***he defines a doctrine concerning faith or morals to be held by the whole church, ***
*he possesses, by the divine assistance promised to him in blessed Peter,
that infallibility which the divine Redeemer willed his church to enjoy in defining doctrine concerning faith or morals. Therefore, such definitions of the Roman pontiff are of themselves, and not by the consent of the church, irreformable. * papalencyclicals.net/Councils/ecum20.htm

    So, going back to Peter,

show where ANY pope in 2000 years, defined a doctrine concerning faith and morals, to be held by the whole Church, and it was overturned. IOW, it was error, It was found to be wrong. See if you can find the doctrine.

    .
    At the last supper
    • Jesus had instituted the Eucharist,
    • Judas left the table, to go out to betray Jesus,
    • the apostles get in an argument over who is the greatest among THEM right before Jesus is to go out to the garden to begin His passion and ultimate death…
Great timing…right? And how could things appear to fall apart so fast? The cream of the crop, selected by Jesus, are in an argument over who is the greatest among THEM? Really?

Don’t ever underestimate the power of Satan. He was there the whole meal. Jesus could see him. The apostles got blindsided by him. And Jesus told them who started their argument.

    Lk 22:
24A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest [μείζων. (http://bibleapps.com/greek/3187.htm) 25Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. 26But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest [μείζων (http://bibleapps.com/greek/3187.htm) among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules [ἡγούμενος (http://bibleapps.com/greek/2233.htm) like the one who serves. 27For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. 28You are those who have stood by me in my trials. 29And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me, 30so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
31“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you (plural) as wheat. 32But I have prayed for you (singular), Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen [στήρισον (http://bibleapps.com/greek/4741.htm) your brothers.”
      • Did Jesus confirm one of THEM is the greatest? Yes.
      • Did this one who is greatest lobby for the position? No. He was selected
      • Did Jesus confirm this one would rule? Yes
      • Did Jesus promise to pray especially for this one who would rule over the entire kingdom? Yes
      • Who is this man who is greatest among THEM, who is to rule and have primacy over the entire Church? Peter. Argument over, Jesus settled it.
      • and the apostles are to be obedient to this
As an aside, who got them into this argument in the first place? Satan. Who is vested in keeping people sifted from this plan of Jesus? Satan

By definition then, Peter has the authority (having received the Keys from Jesus Matthew 16:19 ) to do with authority, what Jesus asked of him. And again, the apostles all heard this.

btw, one of the titles of the pope of Rome, successor to Peter, is “servant of the servants🙂

As an aside, here is a condensed history of the first 400 years of Catholic Church history if you are ever asked. #34

I have read satisfactory replies to all of her question except for the part about Mary saying “only I can help you” at Fatima. If anyone has a satisfactory answer to why this doesn’t sound like she helps us rather than Jesus, please reply. I have struggled with this question repeatedly and it makes me question the rosary because I believe it was also received through private revelation. I was just looking into this on the 99th anniversary of the miracle of the sun and having just had the 450th anniversary of the battle of Lepanto and Our Lady of the Rosary. Please help if you have a good answer to this.

God bless

This is why I’m not sure about Fatima. That just does not seem right.
