(RNS) A Catholic priest has resigned from his parish in Germany following racist threats and abuse by local politicians.
The Rev. Olivier Ndjimbi-Tshiende told parishioners during his Sunday (March 6) sermon that he would be leaving his post in Zorneding, close to Munich, after Easter. The Congolese-German priest received race-related death threats five times in the past few months and has also been stalked, German magazine Der Spiegel reported.
Ndjimbi-Tshiende has reportedly suffered racist abuse from two members of the Christian Socialist Union (CSU), the Bavarian arm of a center-right party that forms part of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s coalition government.

This is terrible news.

We are hearing more about racism and xenophobia rearing their ugly heads in Germany and Western Europe of late.

You would think with Germany’s past- people would have learned their lesson.

Yes it is. What does a Catholic priest have to do with any of the bad immigration crisis news lately?

People aren’t thinking straight.
We are hearing more about racism and xenophobia rearing their ugly heads in Germany and Western Europe of late.
Well, an unsustainable immigration policy that allows immigrants to get away with criminal acts will do that on both ends.

On the one side, some of them think European women deserved to be raped, on the other, it’s the vigilante-type response.
You would think with Germany’s past- people would have learned their lesson.
Perhaps one of the lesson on their minds here may be more about Allied occupied soldiers raping German women.

How sad. Hate to hear things like this, but God Bless him and watch over him.

German newspapers are reporting massive support for the priest.

The first article from Zeit.de
zeit.de/gesellschaft/zeitgeschehen/2016-03/zorneding-demonstration-solidaritaet-rassismus-pfarrer
Mehr als 3.000 Menschen demonstrieren für zurückgetretenen Pfarrer
Translation: More than 3,000 People demonstrate their support for Pastor who resigned.

The next article from kath.net states in the last paragraph, first sentence:
kath.net/news/54327
Eine seit Montag laufende Online-Petition unter dem Motto «Unser Pfarrer soll in Zorneding bleiben» hat mittlerweile fast 66.000 Unterstützer gefunden.
Translation: An online petition that started Monday under the slogan “Our pastor should stay in Zorneding” has reached nearly 66,000 signatures so far.

We love our African missionary priests here in Oregon! They serve a wide population in the eastern half of the state, where the weather is more severe and the population spread out thinly over the vast, mostly high desert terrain. They also serve in the western valleys of our state and as parish priests and hospital chaplains. They are invaluable.

Sounds like the German bigotry doesn’t stem from the Catholics, but the new far-right extremists.
