Looks like people are finally getting vocal about the tactics of the ACLU. From WorldNetDaily:

Following the ACLU’s legal action against New York City for allegedly violating citizens’ rights by random searches on subways, Congress is being asked to probe the group for “widespread use of frivolous lawsuits.”

It outrages me that my tax dollars help support an organization that, in the name of civil liberties, attacks the Boy Scouts and defends the pedophiles at the North American Man-Boy Love Association.

The ACLU needs to be destroyed.

I agree. They have their own agenda, which goes against just about everything we hold important in this country. The sooner they are gone, the better.

I agree. I don’t intend to sound overly mean to the ACLU–many fine otherwise people support the ACLU. But, over and over again, it seems that the ACLU falls on the wrong side of every case. Anything that is decent seems to be unconstitutional, while the most indecent of things (NAMBLA, for example) is somehow a constitutional right.

Destroy current organization and claim the name ourselves: American Catholic Life Union

Destroy may be a little to harsh of a term. They definitely need to be reigned in and lookse federal funding (as should NPR). Turning the tables on the ACLU is something that is long overdue.

The ACLU enjoys being the ant at the picnic. They need to be dismantled, more than just reigned in, IMHO.

Their blatant persecution of Christianity in the face of their tolerance and hospitality for, let me say, Middle Eastern religions, is enough of a reason for me to want them gone.

That may be the ultimate result of this, but the immediate goal of this should be to get the ACLU off the public dole and to institute tort reform to stave off their attacks on the Constitution.

If you would like congress to investigate the ACLU, you might wish to write your congressman. To do so, go to:

IT’S ABOUT TIME!!! This organization is about as anti-Christian as an organization can possibly be. They have an agenda that is anti everything our nation stands for…

I heard one person on the radio say ACLU stands for Anti-Christian Litigation Unit.

Very true. Other accurate acronyms:

Anti-Civil Liberties Union
American Civil Liberties Underminers
Agenda Chasing Litigation Unit

All four are better descriptors of what this organization does.

The ACLU is not funded by tax dollars.

The “taxpayer money” referred to in the story refers to settlements or judgments paid by government organizations that are writing checks to show repentance for their misguided and un-American view of civil liberties.

Are they a tax exempt organization? If they were they would be funded by tax dollars indirectly.

They receive a great deal of federal, state, and local tax dollars.

Misguided and un-American view of civil liberties? Sounds like the ACLU is who you are talking about.

I do not agree. Everybody deserves their day in court–if only to be ruled against. A person could disagree with every single client they represent. Nevertheless, their policy of defending minority groups of any kind is, itself, commendable. Any majority, on any issue, in a democracy, does not need to defend its actions or principles. Minorities groups should at least have a voice in the debate.

If what you claim were true we would still have prayer in school, and the Ten Commandments in our public buildings, and the right to tell the minority that they might just be wrong. But, since the ACLU has millions of dollars to sue ordinary people and small governments that cannot possibly stand toe to toe against them, they are hardly standing up for the silent minority. Rather, they are creating minorities to defend precisely in order to take away the rights of the majority. And that is the truth of what is happening, not your scenario.

Aren’t you arguing for a perfect system rather than a viable one? Its better for the majority to concede, even submit now and then, rather than reenact the French Revolution.

As to the other point, millions of dollars notwithstanding, do we deny that people are part of a minority just because we find them disgusting compared to the “ordinary people?” Do we revoke their minority status because they don’t keep quiet like we wish they would?

The time has come for them to become free of the GOVERNMENT DOLE. Then as a private orginization we can ask to see who contributes to them and their “causes.”

As to tort reform and the Constitution we as people of faith need to vote with our faith and moral beliefs in mind. As I stated in another thread we can not divide our lives into parts that do overlap. Right and wrong are not different at home and in public.
