Don’t despair…
Rick Santorum, Sam Brownback, John Roberts, Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas, Sam Alito, Bobby Jundal…the list goes on.

We have quite a few very solid Catholic politicians out there, the tide is turning. Heck, the Supreme Court loading alone is fairly impressive.
I wouldn’t doubt it. Whenever I write him and whenever our Cardinal talks to him, he just shrugs everything off…he’s following “his conscience.” May God have mercy on him, and hopefully someday he will understand the evil that has deciminated by his decisions. When I write him as a constituent, I always include, prayers for his change of heart.
I’m ashamed to say I am in Durbin and Obama’s district here in IL. Durbin has no right to call himself Catholic. I wonder which parish he attends?

I think that with many of these politicians we are seeing the fruits of lack of proper catechesis. So many have done so little for so few and the rest were allowed to get lost on the way. Prayer is the answer. Pray daily for them, for us and for out country. Pray for the Church and its representatives whoever and wherever they may be. If we do not pray, it does no good to say look what the Church did, for we are the Church.

A Prayer for our Nation As We Prepare to Elect Our Leaders
9-week Novena
September 1 to Election Day

O God, we acknowledge you today as Lord,
Not only of individuals, but of nations and governments.

We thank you for the privilege
Of being able to organize ourselves politically
And of knowing that political loyalty
Does not have to mean disloyalty to you.

We thank you for your law,
Which our Founding Fathers acknowledged
And recognized as higher than any human law.

We thank you for the opportunity that this election year puts before us,
To exercise our solemn duty not only to vote,
But to influence countless others to vote,
And to vote correctly.

Lord, we pray that your people may be awakened.
Let them realize that while politics is not their salvation,
Their response to you requires that they be politically active.

Awaken your people to know that they are not called to be a sect fleeing the world
But rather a community of faith renewing the world.

Awaken them that the same hands lifted up to you in prayer
Are the hands that pull the lever in the voting booth;
That the same eyes that read your Word
Are the eyes that read the names on the ballot,
And that they do not cease to be Christians
When they enter the voting booth.

Awaken your people to a commitment to justice
To the sanctity of marriage and the family,
To the dignity of each individual human life,
And to the truth that human rights begin when human lives begin,
And not one moment later.

Lord, we rejoice today
That we are citizens of your kingdom.

May that make us all the more committed
To being faithful citizens on earth.

We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Then I wonder why they didn’t add their names to the list of:

Hon. Thaddeus G. McCotter (MI)
Hon. Steve Chabot (OH)
Hon. Virginia Foxx (NC)
Hon. Phil Gingrey (GA)
Hon. Peter King (NY)
Hon. Steve King (IA)
Hon. Daniel Lungren (CA)
Hon. Devin Nunes (CA)
Hon. John Sullivan (OK)
Hon. Patrick Tiberi (OH)

on the letter the above wrote to Pelosi, chastizing her for her muddled thinking and muddled faith?

Perhaps we should write and ask them. I am.

Also does anyone else know of any other Catholic reps. who are either pro-choice, or pro-abortion, or the ones who support life. We should write to them and thank them.
As to the letter, I read it was only House members, not senators (or Supreme Court justices) nor was it bipartisan as the signatories said they did not want to put Democrats in an awkward position vis a via their party or Speaker Pelosi.

Writing to support reps is always apropos, especially if you live in their district. Also, calling can be very effective even though you are unlikely to speak with your rep directly (unless you are a big donor or have some other connection). Their staff do track and report on comments. If there are enough comments of support, they get passed on to the politician. You may get even invited to the next big fundraiser too, if you care to put your $$ where your mouth is!

Our Rep. is Luis Gutierrez who I believe is “catholic” little “c” who is very pro-death too.

Sigh. I guess there is always a catch when dealing with politicians.

I am so embarrassed to be in Illinois … This state has the worst politicians on every level!

BlestOne, don’t despair. You had the wonderful Henry Hyde (+)defending the unborn for years.

I was just going back over some of their voting records. It’s enough to make one throw up.
It just motivates me more to speak out on our politicians’ voting records. Also I regularly write them, and I can tell you, they seldom write back with anything that makes any sense…usually it’s just an invitation to see them in Wash. for their weekly stale donuts and coffee gatherings. More reason to pray for good leadership in Illinois with real morals and ethics.

Too bad that all these pro-abortion politicians are claiming to be Catholic. For a Church that is as pro-life as the Catholic Church claims to be, how in the world did we get so many pro-abortion politicians? I’m confused!
The same reason we get so many pro-abort Catholic voters. This includes the ignorant and the stupid ones. Stupid because they’ve been told why it’s wrong and they still persist in their stupid, defective argument.

I also get invited to the donuts and coffee thingy. I have, however, gotten two calls from members of Senator Durbin of IL staff.👍 I was stomping and fuming about his immigration bill. They have us coming and going. I asked if a state rules regarding illegal immigrants if those laws would be upheld by the Federal gov. His answer was," As long as it didn’t conflict with FEDERAL policy". Go figure.

I don’t see why every member of Congress wouldn’t want Pelosi to correct her statements. Cardinal Rigali has made it quite clear what the teaching of the Catholic Church is on abortion, and there should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that he would be the authority. Catholic or not, members of Congress are now aware that Pelosi’s statements were incorrect at best, fundamentally misleading at worst.
If Pelosi was confused on the teachings, she has now been educated and needs to speak up.

I am bothered by any politician who claims to be Catholic when running for office and then votes for abortion funding, rights, or whatever. If you are Catholic, live it. If you are not, admit it. I can respect an honest statement, even if I think it is wildly wrong. Claiming to be Catholic while in conflict with the Church on the most basic and precious teaching is nothing short of a lie.

I have gone to Mass and have seen stickers on cars advertising abortion rights politicians. I simply shake my head and wonder why. That is not even the worst example. One time, I went to Mass and the homily came from materials sent out by a leading supporter of abortion rights. If we can’t mind our own house with those in the pews or at the altar, we need to pray. Well, I guess that is necessary anyway.

“pro-abortion politicians are claiming to be Catholic.”

That is the saddest thing in this country today. When Israel strayed from GOD they experienced what that turning away from their creator means. I hope that WE as Americans wake up and realize what it means to be GODless.

Ihonestly don’t think she is confused. I think she is serving her own need for power, and is arrogant enough to think that we won’t notice. I could be wrong though, after all she doesn’t think Natural Gas is a fossil fuel either.

I think what she has also failed to recognize is that her comments are not only offensive to Catholics, but to anyone who has any education at all. I am Lutheran, but studied Augustine, and many other early church fathers as well, I makes me very angry to see the words of great men of faith and knowledge misquoted, and twisted for personal gain.

I agree that every member of congress should call for a correction, she has lied and made up things and should be called on it.

Amen to that. Every member of congress, Catholic or not should expect her to retract that statement as wrong. 👍

They think this would make them look like they don’t know what they are talking about, which may be the case for many. Therefore, they just don’t do it.

Amen to that. I do know that the Catholic politician Durbin in our state of Illinois would never agree to corect Pelosi. More reasons to pray.
Politics over morality seems to be their cry. They are so use to looking at things from a political perspective and in that perspective their self preservation as a politician is the major theme. This senator says he is worried about the powerless of everyone else but when it comes to unborn children he turns a blind eye.
They throw around the term, “my conscience” but forget it is a properly formed conscience that is the teaching of the church. When we go to our reward will GOD say; Well it is not my will but yours that you followed with your conscience so welcome into the kingdom…I could be wrong but I don’t think that this is HIS teaching!

GOD please turn their hearts to the heart of JESUS and make them like CHRIST would loved the children.
