Congressman says abortions never necessary to save life of mother

It seems the general consensus in this thread is that elective abortion is never necessary to save the life of the mother.

Which brings me back to my original statement: why not make it legal?

What on earth do we gain by making something illegal which will never happen? That makes no sense. Kryptonite is a fictional material, it does not exist. Would it make any sense to make possession of kryptonite illegal? Of course not.

I think the problem with American Christians today is that we are more concerned with being right than doing the right thing. What happens if we “lose” the battle, and let them legalize abortions which are medically necessary to save the mothers life? We already know this will result in no increase in legal abortions, since medically necessary abortions do not exist. So no moral harm well come of it. But what we WILL do is rob the pro-abortion lobby of one of its strongest arguments. If they can no longer claim we are threatening the lives of women, then we have a much better chance of making abortions illegal.

Sometimes you need to lose a battle to win the war. I find it utterly absurd that we are fighting to keep something illegal which never occurs, especially when giving up on this battle gives us a much better chance at winning much more important ones.

**Abortion is already LEGAL through ALL NINE MONTHS of PREGNANCY in the USA. ** And Doe vs Bolton said “women’s health” reasons which is very vague and could be defined as ANYTHING.

What??? If you don’t know, why imply it?
Maybe because some posters are intent on exhibiting white guilt or going out of their way to defend certain minority groups for the almost sole purpose of showing how “tolerant” he/she thinks he/she is?

Actually the fetus’ rights are “recognized” when someone other than the mother is responsible for its death. But this could be a state-by-state thing.

Right, if anyone but the mother causes the death of a fetus, its a crime. If the mother causes it, its a choice. 🤷
