I think its a sad day too when people don’t realize that she is probably the one who taught her Son to pray as most Mother’s do, and since Jesus prayed with her, I will continue to ask her to pray with me too, whenever I begin the Holy Rosary I ask her to pray it with me, to God in Jesus’ name, I know she knows the Holy Spirit, He lives in her, she was there with the Apostles when the Holy Spirit decended upon them (read Acts), she is our Mother in the order of Grace and she does have many graces to give us, if you don’t want them, I’ll take them.
I just may ask that they be applied to those who failed to ask for them. If you believe that Jesus’ words in the Holy Bible apply to all of us, then why can’t some of you realize that when Jesus gave her to John from the Cross, (as He was dying, I might add-seems very important to me!)… then why can’t you understand that He wants all of us to take her into our homes too? It’s alright, I don’t need anyone to answer me or to ask me for anymore proof about what or why I believe she is Central to all of our lives. I believe she is and I thank God that He choose her. I love her and am all hers.

As if the Son of GOD would not be able to pray and not be able to teach us to pray?

As if the Son of GOD would not be able to pray and not be able to teach us to pray?
Now there you go again. 😃

Making a false dichotomy. Acting as though one needn’t consider Mary at all, because “Christ could do anything He wanted without her.”

Maybe so . . . but He DIDN’T, did He? He chose her as mother and loved her as Son.

Nobody is saying, “Jesus couldn’t pray unless Mary taught Him”.

Nobody is trying to ‘take something away from God’ but it looks very much to me like you are trying to diminish Mary. And not realizing that by diminishing her, you ARE diminishing God.

You never did respond to my answer to your question, and my question at the end (of course, you were busy with some other posters and it may be on your to-do list):

What do you consider to be ‘central’ in considering the question of whether Mary was ‘central’ to Christ’s life, and in what way does she fail to meet your criteria to BE central to His life?

If God choose to have Jesus come to us through her, why would anyone have a problem with going to Him through her? Ever read St. Louis de Monfort’s books? It won’t hurt you, and it sure will help you to understand better. It makes me truly sad when someone, anyone says that she is now useless, as gottle of geer seems to imply, and you seem to have many doubts yourself. Why not just try speaking to God about it and then doing some research and reading about her and see if you don’t fall in love with her too. She is the perfect model for all of us to follow in finding our way back to God or in finding Him at all to begin with. I started loving her as a child and still do, she has never taken anything away from my worship of God, only added to. She leads all to Jesus. She would never want anyone to worship her, and we don’t, we honor her, just as her Son does.

Many have found God without praying for her intercession.

When Jesus taught us to pray he did not include her.

While some are drawn to her (as a personal private devotion and practice) it is not ‘sad’ that others are not.

That’s your opinion. Now why don’t you answer Tantum Ergo?

YOU never defined your use of central - that has to come first to keep us ‘on the same page’.

NO ONE, especially not me, has diminished the BVM in any way, shape or form.

God is not diminished if one does not go through the Communion of Saints, nor is a Catholic in peril or any other such concern.

Tantum Ergo has been answered - waiting for the necessary definition.

What exactly is my opinion?
I did see Tantum Ergo give you their defination, perhaps you didn’t read back far enough and missed it.
Anyway, just because you personally don’t ask her intercession, or anyone else, doesn’t mean that she doesn’t intercede on your or their behalf anyway and that other’s like myself don’t ask her to intercede on their behalf. So, even if you don’t know it, she still does it.
I remember one time when Blessed Mother Teresa was talking to some non-believer that she told him some things were true even if he didn’t realize it. That applies here too, the Blessed Mother was with Jesus throughout His life and still is.

What was offered was a statement about what is it ‘not’ - not what the word means or is being used as. I am not going to try to guess how the person is using the term - something more important than how he/she is not using the term.

Well that has nothing to do with the discussion but thanks for adding it.

I have a question about
asking Virgin mary for intercession . Many protestants ask if you get less blessing from prayers addressed right to Jesus or Holy Trinity itself or you get more blessings to your life when you ask Mary for help. Are our intercessions to Mary compulsory in official teaching of Catholic Church or not? Are we losing something in our spiritual life when we do not pray to God through her?
Could you compare what is the practical consequence of a Christian who does not ask Mary for intercession?
Well Eilisa, this was the OP questions, and I am giving my side of it, the fact is, you are giving your side of it, so I think you lean more toward the protestant side of it. I am a Cradle Catholic who had a Mother who was devoted to the Blessed Mother and a Grandmother who was and was taught by Priests and Sisters/Nuns and lay people who all were devoted to her and had devotions to her. So, in my opinion those who aren’t devoted to her do in fact lose something in their spiritual life when they don’t.
In my life, when I have been lax in my devotion, things didn’t go as well for me, that’s my opinion.

It is inappropriate to call what I have been posting protestant - I am also a Cradle Catholic - my father’s personal devotional practice was the rosary but my mother had different practice(s).

There is a great wealth and depth of things that add to our spiritual life – that you grew up well entrenched in one does not make those who do not share your view ‘lose something in their spiritual life’.

Well, in MY opinion, they do. In your opinion, they don’t, but as I pointed out, others (such as your Father, do ask for her intercession on your behalf.) So, even if you don’t know it, she is interceding on your behalf. The kind of Mother she is, she would even if no one asked. In my opinion.

Thank you for adding that BUT it was not part of the questions asked in the opening post.

The push for documented CHURCH teaching has always been intended to provide something more substantial than personal experience and how someone was brought up. THAT has been the missing piece.

So while you may feel people lose out or are in peril who don’t do/don’t believe as you do WHAT does the CHURCH truly teach about it?

I have answered that in previous posts, perhaps you need to go back and read them. From what I have seen all of our past fews Pope’s in my life have recommended devotion to her, and from my own study of my faith, even the Church Fathers did. Since the Apostles gathered in prayer with her on Pentacost, I am thinking that Jesus taught them that. I am also thinking that she prayed with her Son and still does.

Your response is confusing because your coloring it (extensively) with your personal situation. Maybe these questions will make the issue clearer:

Does the Church to your knowledge require more than adherence and belief in its teachings and participation in its liturgies when it comes to requesting the intercession of the Communion of Saints?

Does the Church to your knowledge teach that you are rejecting God by not requesting the intercession of the Communion of Saints - especially the BVM outside of its liturgies?

Does the Church to your knowledge teach that one is in peril or is a “minimalist” (whatever that means in terms of the Chuch) by not requesting the intercession of the Communion of Saints - especially the BVM outside of its liturgies?
I’m sorry if my response was confusing; to me it was pretty simple and straight forward I don’t know how else to put it. I have agreed with you from the very start that the Church doesn’t say that you have to have a devotion to Our Lady but certainly recommends it through all it’s teaching. But we already know that.

I gave a personal answer what’s wrong with that?

So - is it now safe to say that there is NO peril and NO lose from not seeking the intercession of Mary and the rest of the Communion of Saints - and that not doing so does not, in fact, diminish her or God in any way PER the Church’s teachings?

You’ve read ALL the Church’s teachings about this and have come to this conclusion?

Today, happens to be the feast day of Mary, help of all Christians, so I will pray for her intercession for all. Thank you for letting me know how important this is.👍

Mary, Mediatrix of All Graces ewtn.com/faith/teachings/marya4.htm

Leo XIII, in the text referred to, spoke of her, as we saw above, as having “practically limitless power.” St. Pius X said she was the "dispensatrix of all the gifts, and is the “neck” connecting the Head of the Mystical Body to the Members. But all power flows through the neck. Pius XII said “Her kingdom is as vast as that of her Son and God, since nothing is excluded from her dominion.” These and many other texts speak in varied ways of Mary as Mediatrix of all graces, so often that the teaching has become infallible.

Lumen gentium speaks of her as taking care of all her children. We are extremely numerous, but yet not infinite in number. Therefore, we are not too numerous for her to see and care for. For her capacity for that infinite vision of God is in proportion to her love on earth, so great that Pius IX, as we saw, said it was so great that “none greater under God can be thought of, and no one but God can comprehend it.” …

since Mary was associated with her Son in acquiring grace for us, she will also share with him in distributing that grace to us. This fits well with the words of the Popes, who call her the administra of grace, meaning that she administers or dispenses it. So Pope Leo XIII, Iucunda semper, said: “… when He [the Father] has been invoked with excellent prayers, our humble voice turns to Mary; in accordance with no other law than that law of conciliation and petition which was expressed as follows by St. Bernardine of Siena : ‘Every grace that is communicated to this world has a threefold course. For by excellent order, it is dispensed from God to Christ, from Christ to the Virgin, from the Virgin to us.’”
(at the bottom of the page, on that ewtn link is a link that you can click on to find out about the teaching of the Popes and Vatican II on Mary’s Mediation.)
