I know quite a few Catholic couples, divorced on both sides, who receive communion regularly. I also know our bishop has told them privately he is not going to make an issue of it. I suspect Our Lord is a lot more hospitable than some of his “followers”.

Secondly, think about what you are advocating. To be consistent, you are saying that:

If Judas can receive, with the paradigm you are espousing, a good, holy Seventh Day Adventist ought to be able to receive, right?

Greetings…I too have been following Cardinal Burkes press releases to the media and book, just as the Synod opened. I think as a Cardinal of the Church he should have not done either of these actions. He also criticized Cardinal Kasper for his new book and his views, and should have waited till after the Synod to do so. So now he has time to ponder his statements and positions…I pray the Holy Spirit will guide him more closely! Sending love and light.

No one is saying not to wear the correct vestments. But usage has changed. We do not have a Papal Coronation anymore nor do we use the peacock fans or the Sedia Gestatoria. Likewise cardinals don’t use expensive rings or crosses usually not do they wear the Galeto or the Cappa Magna our church made the conscious change not to

Some of this isn’t quite true, I’m afraid. Firstly there’s nothing stopping a bishop or cardinal wearing whatever ring or pectoral cross he likes. Benedict, for example, frequently wore on studded with sapphires while wearing choir dress. Some wear gold, some wear silver, it’s entirely their choice.

The cappa magna is still a liturgical vestment allowed in the modern roman rite and gets a mention in the GIRM. The galerno, admittedly, was gotten rid of, but there’s nothing to stop a Cardinal having one. And I quite imagine this was probably a gift off of a group like the Institute of Christ the King and he wore it so they could snap a photo of him in it

How has any of this improved anyone’s opinion of the church, or helped the poor? While more people, even in first world countries, struggle to obtain minimum standards of living, the church battles about gays and divorced??

What happened to concerns about the plight of christians in the Middle East? Perhaps the money poured into this synod might have helped people living in refugee camps? What about the unborn, killed within their mothers’ wombs? Or the sick and weak who are increasingly being urged towards euthanasia? Was the gay issue really the most pressing problem facing the world and the church’s?

I liked the Saturday vigil Mass option. That didn’t bother me. But the original ICEL English translation was pretty bad, along with the Simon & Garfunkel songs we sang before Mass.

After VII all has not gone well for the Church. To name a few Convents closed, Sister no longer in their Habits, the results has been the loss of woman in the religious life. People who left the Church, Priest who left the Church, vocations way down, and my biggest complaint. The Tabernacle of our Lord Jesus Christ not on the Altar or not the centered on the Altar. We wonder why things are in disorder. Big Changes, Big Mistakes. Time to slowdown not speed up.

More of a problem IMO is the size of the dissenting votes now. Vatican II was much more in unison with the bishops, though much of it was misinterpreted and/or not enforced.

Today we (or the press) pits one Pope against another, Cardinals versus Cardinals, etc. Not good.

An absolutely critical distinction, the number of dissenters this time around - this is being overlooked to a certain degree, at least at this early stage. This will be laid bare in the various dust ups in the coming year. Sad times.

Well, here again I can’t personally complain. We have some older sisters in our diocese who have served the Church well throughout their lifetimes, but we also have several orders of young sisters, and their orders are growing. At my parish, the tabernacle is directly behind the altar and we have a separate adoration chapel with adoration 24/7. And we have lots of seminarians.
