They have the same lead singer as the band Narnia. I like Narnia, but I like Divinefire much better. As with many Christian bands, they are not Catholic, but are not anti-Catholic.

Try Mehida, though from the lyrics I gather they are Protestant.
The band was formed by ex-Sonata Artica keyboardist, though I expected them to sound a lot like Sonata but they didn’t…
btw, does anybody know of Christian power metal bands?
Or what about some bands that sound like Epica, Nightwish or Within Temptation.
All these power/symphonic/gothic bands I find are pretty satanic or very dark… Would like to listen to some brighter music, kos I’m stuck with Epica! lol

Kutless are not Catholic. I’ve done some google research and never came up with anything close to it.I’m not sure if they really fit into the rock or heavy metal categories, but does anyone ever listen to Kutless? I totally love them, and some of their lyrics sound Catholic to me…but I can’t find any info. on that. I really like them either way, but I’m just wondering if anyone knows.
Yet there are some things that would seem sort of Catholic in their lyrics and style, or the cover of their praise and worship CD features a Catholic-like church, although I’m pretty sure it’s anglican or lutheran.
So my guess is that they are in some more orthodox, mainstream denomination, not the watered down modern Protestantism (aka non-denominationalism)

I am a fan of all three of these bands. I wish I could tell you a “Christian alternative”, but frankly, I find these bands lyrics moving and very spiritual, especially Within Temptation’s “The Heart of Everything” album.
That is where music, like all forms of art, have a subjective impact on the listener.
I would check out Virgin Black and Saviour Machine (both are male fronted, however). Now I will tell you, Saviour Machine’s Legend series presents a pre-millenial/rapture theory interpretation of the end times. That does not make it all bad, there are many awesome songs in the Legend series, and its nice to hear one interpretation of eschatology artistically played out.

I would like to reiterate the recommendation for Saviour Machine. Great band. There are some other great Christian (not Catholic) metal bands like Theocracy, Narnia, Divinefire, and Veni Domine. They are all male-fronted bands as well. I would classify Theocracy as symphonic power metal, Narnia as neoclassical power metal, Divinefire as a mix between Theocracy and Narnia, and Veni Domine is in the gothic vein like Saviour Machine, only less operatic.
I’m not sure if they hit the niche you’re looking for, but I enjoy them.

POD is doing this?!
I knew they were Christian, then I figured the old guitarist was Catholic (his tattoos and he’s Mexican!), then in “Good-bye for now” or some other video I saw Wuv wearing a t-shirt with the Blessed Mother in the back and he was also holding a Rosary to the camera.
But I thought that they, like many, had sold-out and weren’t mentioning God at all anymore.
I remember seeing Skillet, Pillar, Relient-K in concert, none made any clear prayer or anything. It was all about them and the music, not about God (compare it with Third Day or Casting Crowns in concert).

Spotted a couple of problematic things:
The image of the new album (which supposedly “will experience a grandiloquent over two and a half hour Requiem Mass”) is of a crucified thing. It’s like a vampire-looking person, and it looks mad.
Any non-Christian band with such picture woudl surely be labeled satanic or anti-Christian.
Also, the very first “friends” in their myspace list is “End Records”, which depicts the upside-down 5-point star WITH the goat, which is clearly a satanic symbol.
So, I’m not sure how Christian these guys are. And if Christian, then I’m not sure why they use Catholic stuff and yet are not Catholic, and why they use satanic stuff and yet are Christian.

The End records is a secular label. The only way to get the amount of exposure they have is be be on a secular label. I wish it could be any other way, but nothing else is realistic. If I were a band, and a label gave me a deal that would allow my music to exposed to as many people as possible, I would have them on my friends list too. But that is just me.
I think people are quick to judge. Why would you judge a band based on one little picture. It sounds to me like you are looking for things to point out as bad.
Why do they use Catholic stuff? They are artists. Perhaps they see the aesthetic value in it. VB are not a “Christian Band” but a band with Christians in it. Their primary focus is not to evangelize or preach, but to make music. They are a band first and foremost.
There are only two things I judge a band by and in this order : The quality of music, and the lyrics. Not pictures, imagery, what label they are on, the church they go to, what they eat for breakfast, what kind of car they drive or whatever

Speaking of authentic Catholic rock groups, Katholicus has just released a new CD called Arise! I’ve heard three of the tracts from their website and they are the best Catholic rock songs I have ever heard.
I’m not kidding! Great melodies, great guitar work. I ordered the CD right from their site. Check them out at: www.katholicus.com.
They also had one of their songs selected for the Rocking Romans compilation CD which also just came out. Most of the artists on that cd are pop-rock types. Katholicus definitely rocks the most among those on this compilation.
I have no idea when or where these guys tour, but I’d love to see them. We all need to support Catholic rock bands/artists like this.

I made one up if that counts. LOL. They are a heavy metal band that sings in Latin. Okay, I’m wierd- but I might have something there.I am in to heavy metal… :banghead:
It is difficult to find a metal band that isn’t downright offensive, let alone Christian. Most of them are not very good, either.
If anyone knows of a good Christian, or better yet specifically Catholic metal band, please let me know who they are. I would be eternally grateful.
My favorite group is Dream Theater. They are considered progressive metal and, while not specifically religious, they are more than just loud and fast. One of the band members is a practicing Catholic and two others are Christian. They are possibly the most talented musicians I have ever heard.

Have you tried listening to some of the Christian metal bands mentioned above? I have linked to their myspace pages where you can listen to them. Surely, you cannot listen to a band like Divinefire and come away thinking their riffs are too soft or that they are not loud enough? And their lyrics are at least as good if not better than much of the secular music out there (though I think Theocracy and Saviour Machine have them beat lyrically).

So you’ll only listen to soft metal, but you don’t want the riffs to be too soft or not loud enough?
I guess it’s like Goldilocks. This music is too soft. This music isn’t soft enough. But this music is just right.
Do you have any opinion on Stryper, then? They’re not quite as heavy as some of the other bands.
Saviour Machine isn’t really that heavy. They’re music is a little more in the goth/doom direction. I don’t suppose you gave them a listen?

Certainly not ALL of modern music is evil. However, have you ever stopped and really listened to what much of today’s rock music is actually saying?
If you listen closely, you will definitely notice a common thread through the music of hundreds of different popular artists.
The common thread goes beyond the promotion of drugs, sex and sin…in much of today’s music there is a common theme of turning people away from God and His laws and of turning people to Lucifer (Satan).
Did you know that Marilyn Manson is very open about wanting to destroy Christianity?:
“Hopefully, I’ll be remembered as the person who brought an end to Christianity.” (Spin, August 1996, p. 34)
Did you know that the rock group Black Sabbath has actually given invitations during their concerts for people to receive Satan into their lives?
In their song N.I.B. (Nativity In Black), which is in reality a love song from Lucifer, Lucifer invites people to “please take my hand”:
“Some people say MY LOVE cannot be true
Please believe me, MY LOVE, and I’ll show you
I will give you those things you thought unreal . . .
YOUR LOVE FOR ME has just got to be real . . .
Look into my eyes, you will see who I am
MY NAME IS LUCIFER, PLEASE TAKE MY HAND!”
And these examples are far from being isolated in the world of rock music. If you are not totally convinced that much of today’s rock music is Satanic, there are more quotes and some mind blowing google videos about the wickedness of rock music over here:

You can’t reference the most extreme examples and assume it speaks to the whole genre. You could find similar examples in any genre of music.
In regards to Black Sabbath, I’d be curious to see a substantiated reference about the whole “asking Satan into their lives.” Sounds like an urban legend to me.
Black Sabbath is far from morally pristine, but there are alternate interpretations of their N.I.B. song. According to Wikipedia, the author of the song said the song is not about Lucifer seducing the listener but rather about Lucifer changing and becoming a good person. Sure, that’s theologically impossible, but it just goes to show that you need to look at these things in context.
If a given band is satanic, it would certainly be a good idea to avoid them, but I’ve found that very few bands are actually satanic. There are many that are anti-organized religion, but they don’t advocate worshipping Satan.
