I am in to heavy metal… :banghead:

It is difficult to find a metal band that isn’t downright offensive, let alone Christian. Most of them are not very good, either.

If anyone knows of a good Christian, or better yet specifically Catholic metal band, please let me know who they are. I would be eternally grateful.

My favorite group is Dream Theater. They are considered progressive metal and, while not specifically religious, they are more than just loud and fast. One of the band members is a practicing Catholic and two others are Christian. They are possibly the most talented musicians I have ever heard.

Ever try Burlap To Casmere? Not exactly metal but they certainly have a harder edge.

I tend to find most contemporary Christian music too pop like. I don’t generally like pop music so I tend to shy away from “Christian” music. However if anyone knows of any Christian bands that have a blues/rock edge to them I’d sure love to check them out. :cool:

Have you ever heard of: Plain Jane, Rise, The David Vogel Band. I met the group Plain Jane last month along with David Vogel. They played here and really ROCKED the church. :cool:

Is there anyone out there that has a good suggestion for Catholic music that has a harder edge?

I’m not talking about for Mass or similar venue. Just something to listen to in the car. I have found a few Christian Rockbands that I like (i.e. Third Day) but no Catholic ones.

I like listening to Classic Rock and similar music and occasionally I would like to hear spiritual music with a similar edge.

Most of the Catholic CDs that have been suggested by others before have too much of a “Praise and Worship” side to them for both my and my wife’s taste.
 
In addition to some already mentioned:

…Atomic Opera - Christian Metal, an odd combination but many like it. One of the members (at least) is Catholic.
 
Anyone know of any good Catholic rock or alternative bands?
I can only find protestant ones 😦

sorry fellicia…this topic comes up about once a month…their are NO Catholic rock bands…hehehe…if you want poppy bands, or praise bands, or funk, or classic rock then ok…but rock, punk, hardcore, emo, screamo, hard rock, metal…then you are out of luck…we are trying to change that…our next album will be even better. We are also going to be putting out the first Catholic prolife music video (at least that we know of). Spread the word about us please.
and pray that our youth will be inspired to write music for the Church.

I just checked him out…nice relaxing praise music…

but yet another artist who says nothing on his site or in his biography about being Catholic. You could assume from him being at St. Annes, but many protestant churches are called St. something. You could assume from the Catholic shows he is going to play, but we all know that protestants play Catholic shows.

He is Catholic. Has been all his life. I wouldn’t describe his new CD as relaxing. It’s more rock to a little hard rock. Which is why I mentioned him here in this thread. Fellicia might like his music.

I always thought that a combo of Gregorian Chant with a Metal track would be cool. Something similar to the softer side Metallica, or perhaps Rhapsody or Blind Guardian…something ala Trans Siberian Orchestra would be awsome.

I like to do ‘What Child is This’ on my Fat Strat with my distort and overdrive around Christmas…at least I like it…
 
There are three good Catholic hard rock/power metal/prog metal bands from Brazil, Eterna, Uniao and Apocalipse Prophecy.

Illuminandi is a Christian gothic metal/hard rock/metal band from Poland whose members are all Catholics.
 
I love Living Sacrifice, which is a Christian heavy metal band (I think they’re non-denominational), but I’ve yet to discover any specifically Catholic heavy bands.

Well, I know that underOATH is a Christian rock band based out of my home-region, Tampa Bay. They have good songs. Reinventing Your Exit is a good song. Also, Blindside is good. Most of their new CD, About a Burning Fire, is good music, and their old CD, Silence, has some good songs on it.

In regards to Blindside and Underoath, I do not think that either of them are Catholic bands (they are both Christian bands, though). I have not noticed anything in either band’s lyrics that is specifically Catholic. Based on the type of music you are looking for, you would probably prefer Blindside’s and Underoath’s older CDs.
