CONSOLIDATED STICKY: Catholic Rock Music

I thought this was about Catholic rock. Last I checked, Black Sabbath was not Catholic.

So, I’m not sure how Christian these guys are. And if Christian, then I’m not sure why they use Catholic stuff and yet are not Catholic, and why they use satanic stuff and yet are Christian.

Yeah, Virgin Black’s members are Christian, but they are quite also strongly against religion.
 
On the topic of Black Sabbath-- Tonni Iommi has Never played a show without wearing a cross, In fact their stages are covered with them ( and not upside down). Though not for religious reasons, just for good luck. The companies that make their paraphernalia were the ones over the years that put satanic images on their merchandise.

I’m not familiar with Catholic metal bands.

Tourniquet is my favorite christian metal band, more technical than mettalica before they became pop metal.
Followed closely by Project 86, Grammatrain, Chevelle, King’s x, Leader dog’s for the blind, Rod.laver and 100’ Krutch.

To bon scott fan- check out the vocals of x-sinner if you can, very hard to find.

Someone said said they like classic rock. Check out the 77’s, The album ‘Drowning with land in sight’, very nice.

Is any one afraid, that some of the christian music out there could be blasfamy? I rember reading somewhere that prayers should be done in privite.
Not to say Im against Christian music, some of it is kinda catchy. I am just saying that praying for attintion sortta defeats the purpose.
Maybe Im wrong, let me know.

I think the thing we have to do is realize that praise and worship, a phrase often used by protestants describing Christian music, is really a little misleading. Praise and worship are two totally different things. Christian music is praise. The Bible gives many examples of praise- mainly in the Psalms.

Praise him with the sound of trumpet: praise him with psaltery and harp. Praise him with timbrel and choir: praise him with strings and organs. Praise him on high sounding cymbals: praise him on cymbals of joy: Let every spirit praise the Lord. Alleluia. -Psalm 150:3-6

Worship, on the other hand, is prayer, adoration and humility directed to God. Contemporary Christian music is NOT worship or prayer. It can be a part of our worship, but it is separate from worship.

Even if it were true that Christian music inappropriately does in public what should be kept private, it would be inaccurate to call that “blasphemy.”

The Scripture passage you are alluding to (Matthew 6:5-6) is not some sort of blanket prohibition of public prayer. If it were, it would mean that any Catholic Mass or Protestant service would be a violation of Christ’s teaching. This is not correct.

What this passage is condemning is praying publicly solely for the recognition you receive with no inward conversion (i.e. hypocrisy). It does not mean that we can never pray in public.

If it were true that any public prayer was prohibited, that would mean that Christianity would basically be relegated to the private sphere. Of course, this is a popular opinion today that religion should be kept “private”, but this is not correct.
 
This may be considered christian music, but since actual perfect rock catholic music that is actually good and original is extremely rare. Red, and Switchfoot are two good bands that are considered christian and are very good in my opinion.

Though, catholic music might be considered filter that is far to fine for almost anything to go through. Look for christian music, and find the music you like. PS. All because a band has Catholic members, it still doesnt make it a catholic band, and it doesnt mean they’ll make catholic music.

How can you tell the difference with Catholic Rock/Music with the other genres? What’s the difference with Christian? Don’t they all praise God when it comes down to it?

I’d love all the (name removed by moderator)ut you could give me. I’ve never been one to listen to Christian/Catholic music…but since the past few weeks have brought me back to my faith (I grew up Catholic and have been on a 10+ years hiatus) I’m interested in finding some music that I can listen to that will help me get through a tough period in my life.
I love all sorts of different genres from 80s, to Rock, to Pop, to Hip Hop, etc…
 
Well to begin with, rock music is not good for the soul, even if the words were the Te Deum

If can’t argue today, but for starters I’ll leave some homework.

Look into the studies of brainwaves and academic performance when listening to Classical music vs. Rock.

Be careful who you listen to. Pray and ask for God’s direction. An example of Christians in a band that is not a christian band would be U2. Even though Bono is a christian and writes from that perspective the band is not a christian band.

A christian band is one that who’s sole purpose is to encourage the flock and evoke worship. A band like U2 are meant for the masses, an open audience. I guess the best way to explain it is to say look at which audience the band is catering to with their lyrics and music.

Are you kidding me? There’s a name for those studies: pseudoscience. They’re not scientifically valid. No, the internet is generally not a reliable source either. I listen to both rock and classical music (and other genres, of course), and I am one of the highest acedemically scoring students at my school. Also, some have stated that Bach’s strong rhythmical patterns are similar to that of rock music…

The thing is that you forget that what enters the senses affects the soul as well.

I mean just look at the progress in sanctity that rock has brought.

What are you going to say? Rock is like communism, it was simply deviated.

Could you immagine Our Lord in a rock concert?

If you can I have nothing more to discuss with you because only getting knocked off your horse can help you.

This is why chastisement has to come.
