I just started a new job so I’ve had to do all the new-hire stuff over the last couple weeks. The process of listing emergency contacts got me thinking; I work in a power plant so there’s a certain level of risk and, in the event that something should happen to me, I’m wondering about the best way to quickly contact a priest. It doesn’t seem appropriate to list a priest as an emergency contact, so what’s the best course of action?

I would say ensure your next of kin is aware that if they recieve a call and your in danger of death that they either contact your priest or your workplace are instructed too I don’t know if your workplace would comply with the request though as some work places may view it as outwith the scope of what they do in such a situation.

It has always seemed strange to me that holy orders are needed to administer the last rites. If anyone can baptise when there is danger of death, why not the last rites?

Wonderful thought ,we all have to have the same attitude,where-ever we are,we don’t know when Jesus will call us. i remember my father would have a card in his wallet which says I Am a Catholic in case of emergency please contact a Catholic Priest, its a very common Catholic practice,in the older generation, its nice you had a good thought to have something of the like ,you do have prayers cards ,ID cards, medals bracelets etc

Last Rites include Confession (along with Anointing of the Sick and the Eucharist), which can only be heard by a priest.

Make sure that your friends and family members know about what you want.

Unfortunately, that card is currently unavailable on Amazon.

I have always put, ’ I am a catholic, in case of emergency, please contact a catholic priest ’ I have put that on my job app and also carry a note in my wallet. There is nothing inappropriate about listing a priest in case of emergency. I woke up one time in intensive care, after what was suppose to be a simple procedure and I would be going home the same day, it didn’t work out that way. By having the note in my wallet to call a priest , I woke up and he was at my side.Never think twice about asking for a priest. God bless you.🦋🦋

I wear a medical bracelet that includes “I am a Catholic - if in danger of death, please notify a priest” along with my medical info. I chose “if in danger of death” rather than “in case of emergency” because the latter could mean a lot of things that don’t include accident, injury or danger of death.

I understand in a power plant employees might not be allowed to wear jewelry, so in that environment I would carry a wallet card instead and make sure my supervisor was aware of my request.

ok ,may be other types of cards are available, just posted as an example 😄

Just check this link

Another reason for living a chaste and holy life, because often we may not have access extreme unction.

That being said, Purgatory is the wonderful element of our Catholic Faith!

Pax et bonum!

I have little wallet cards that say “I am Catholic, in an emergency call a priest” and you can note the emergency number for your parish. It is a good idea to let your coworkers know that if you are seriously injured that you want a priest called (and the number is in my wallet!).

Because, the Last Rites are Confession, Anointing and the Eucharist.

Check with EWTN RESOURCES. I believe they sent me one. Also check Catholic Company.

They are going to take you to the hospital, and most hospitals at least here in America have Catholic priests on staff or at least on call.

That’s good info, not something I know anything about (fortunately). I work at a university with a hospital associated with it, so it would be pretty easy for me to find out the details there since I’d likely end up there.

In March I received the annoiting before surgery. I also received confession, just in case I died. The next day I received The holy Eucharist. I can’t tell you how much this meant to me. It was St. Joseph’s day and the priest was from St. Joseph’s parish. He was so kind and happy for me! God bless our holy priests.

I had this card but don’t know what happened to it when I switched purses! Thanks for sharing the link!!
