Continual sexual abuse by priests - propagated by 'church'

Recently in the new, Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Father Tarcisio Tadeu Spricigo was jailed for 14 years and eight months for sexually abusing two boys, one of them a five-year-old. In his diary, obtained by police in Sao Paulo, the 48-year-old priest stressed the need “to have boys who can keep a secret and without sexual scruples”.

He recommended: “Always present oneself as the dominator. Be caring and not hurried. Never ask questions, but have certainties. Get secure and needy boys, who don’t have fathers and who are poor. Never get involved with rich kids.”

Why has the ‘church’ not stopped the process of training priests in monestaries - when all it seems to have done is create world-wide sexual abusers? [This is not a new problem]. The sicker question is why has the ‘church’, in many documented cases, shuffled abusive priests off to some other parish or to a “desk job” somewhere?

To your first question, if that was true there would be a very percentage of abusing priest, which there isn’t.

To your second question - ask your Bishop. I think it’s a fair question.

How do we know the Chuch didn’t turn this pedophile in?

In any large group of men there will be some sexual predators – there are as many proportionately amongst Protestant ministers and Jewis rabbis as among Catholic priests.

The scandal in the Catholic Church was not that we had such people – but that we concealed the fact.
 
First, please add a link to the “recently in the news” quote so I can read it and determine the validity of your post. Not that I doubt you specifically, however there have been individuals on this board with less than charitable purposes that falsify this type of information.

Secondly, please understand that the abuse of boys has nothing to do with the celibate lifestyle. There are many who live celibate lifestyes in the layity as well, and do not abuse boys. By saying that “celibacy = abuse”, you are formulating an illogical statement. If celibacy did = child abuse, then you would see majority of ALL celibates (including priests) abusing children.

In all actuallity, what we are truly seeing is a form of homosexuality. MOST of the abused children are male boys of adolescent/pubesant age. And, due to this, is considered an issue of homosexuality more than just pure pedophelia (which typically focuses on adult males and minor females, by the way). So rather than focusing on the celibate lifestyle, we need to ask seminaries (as the holy father has instructed) to examine all seminarians for this type of issue, as well as the seminary instructors.

As your second question, the shifting of priests to hide scandal…I agree. The church was scandaled by the individual priests. However, if the church (and specific bishops that you may be referring too) had acted a bit differently…then a worse scandal MAY have been avoided. I say MAY because the secular society is opportunistic (and look for ANY reason to attack the church). In some cases, had the bishops responded as you suggest, the media would still have created a scanda.
