I’m really confused about the continuing church of God. They’re anti Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox. They believe they’re the original church founded by Jesus Christ. They said there 2 groups of ancient Christianity. Asia Minor and Rome. I’m like what?? I’m looking and studying their doctrines. Their church is pretty big and in multiple countries. They use the church fathers!!! They say some church fathers wrong and others are right. They think Polycarp is correct, but Justin Martyr And all other bishops of Rome are wrong?? They also call themselves Nazarenes. They believe birthdays are wrong, im thinking in my head. The kids in that church are gonna have a boring life. They keep the Jewish dietary laws. They keep the sabbath. They say there’s no evidence. They say the Roman church made and changed doctrines, but Asia Minor kept it. This guy made many pages of different stuff. They’re super, i mean super long!!! It probably takes 30min to 2hrs reading each one.

Here’s the link

We need to combat against this church. Some churches are never messed with. I’m confused. I’m thinking about converting to the Catholic Church. But some churches just keep me at bay. This time I’m stumped. Well kind of. I’m emailing them for some questions. I’m just asking them about their baptismal formula. If they have in the name of Jesus accepted. It’s wrong. I hope we can work this out.

They seem to be non-trinitarian, so I doubt their baptism is valid (might be wrong on this one though). I’d ask them for a proof they are original Church, or that they can trace their line back to Nazarenes as they claim. I’m pretty sure we would have heard about them years before if they had any legitimate or semi-legitimate claim to that. Nevertheless, they seem interesting with their beliefs and rules, but to those who studied history enough, they are simply pretenders.

This guy bob seems to be the boss or something. I assume they baptize in the name of Jesus. I emailed him and he just give me a link to his article. I just got angry. I read through a little. I’m emailing him again.

So I emailed him. He baptizes in the name of trinity??? Just wow!!

I just got angry.
We need to combat against this church.
There are literally thousands of churches like this, especially in sub-Sarahan Africa, each more weird than the others.

It would be better for your sanity to simply ignore them, rather than get upset over something you cannot possibly change. You’re basically wasting your time engaging with them. What do you hope to achieve? How do you propose to “combat” against them?

Because they’re making propaganda literally every single day in over 20 countries. There’s literally no one combatting this church. The ones in sub Saharan Africa are small. But this church is international. I researched their doctrines and history. It’s just confusing. I don’t see one person doing anything against them. More and more people are joining that church. Their resources Pretty good, they use the church fathers like Polycarp and polycrates. I’m like what??? Their articles take like 1 hour to read. So much info is typed in each article.

We should try to find out their weirdest doctrine. A doctrine that doesn’t make any sense. They say they’re not protestant. They say their church was made 2000 years ago. They say the early church, true early Christians were doing these things. They believe in the sabbath and Jewish dietary laws. That’s outrageous. But they put 1 hour full of info into the sabbath and Jewish dietary laws. It’s a pain in the Butt reading it. I wished more Catholic would combat against this church. The ones in Africa, they’re more local and smaller. They would easily destroy each other’s churches. Sub Saharan Africa is in turmoil. But they’re mostly protestant or Catholic depending on what country.

We should focus on their doctrines on Jewish dietary laws, sabbath and many others on the look out.

It’s a pain in the Butt reading it.
Then why bother yourself reading it?
I wished more Catholic would combat against this church.
There are only 24 hours in a day, and most Catholics have more productive things to do than wasting time in a futile attempt to “combat” one of the literally thousands of churches like this around the world.

If you want to “combat” them, then live out the Gospel to its fullest so that others are attracted to your faith. Love God and love others to the point where people will want to be like you.

I don’t think you should combat them. You are free to research what they believe in and their history. If it makes you angry reading what they believe just stop looking into them.

I’m still thinking about what church I should convert. I originally thought of converting to Catholicism, but they use Polycarp. They said Polycarp celebrated Easter on the 14th of Nissan whole Rome celebrates on Sunday. But I looked it up on Catholic Answers. Not a lot of info, but both sides were at peace. But the continuing church of God said that they’re clearly 2 different churches. They say they trust the Asia Minor churches, and they say the churches sideing with Rome changed or made up doctrines.

they say the churches sideing with Rome changed or made up doctrines
That’s very common misconception. We just defined more, because we had to battle heresies. Other Churches did not do that, because Holy Spirit led Catholic Church to define more. Why else do you have problem with Catholicism? I’m just interested because couple of years ago, I was trying to find True Church too- I thought Catholicism wasn’t one, but then I found out it actually is.

I also agree with you that heresies are dangerous. Church ought to combat heresies but in a way of love- live Gospel to fullest and try to correct those people or debunk them, but with love for their souls and not in attempt to prove you were right. You can be interested in their doctrines, so am I at the moment (not in attempt to convert to them, of course). Do everything with charity though.

Alright. But they kind of seem to agree more with eh eastern church. They trust Polycarp and polycrates, I’m not sure about the other eastern fathers. They celebrate Easter on the 14th of Nissan, just like the east. They say there were 2 definitive churches, Im gettlng closer to Catholicism. It makes no sense. They were of one church. One Holy apostolic church that was United. The only times the east and west were actually 2 separate churches and in broken communion was the acaian schism and the fret schism. But they think there were 2 separate churches since at least the 2nd century. Yeah, I think I have to go with Catholicism on here. But I’m not sure about everything. I’ll keep praying and asking for help.

But they kind of seem to agree more with eh eastern church.
They nitpick who they agree with and who they do not agree with- they just play their own Popes and choose their teachings however they want and however it seems plausible to them. This is not objective truth.

One Holy Universal Apostolic Church is always united- people split of from Church but that does not deny Church itself. East and West are concepts- but Church is always One. There was time very few Christians were not Arians yet Truth prevailed.
I’ll keep praying and asking for help.
I’ll pray for you too, good luck in your search for truth, brother in Christ.

They believe they’re the original church founded by Jesus Christ
They look like an off shoot of Herbert W Armstrong’s old Worldwide Church of God, which I was a member of for 22 depressing years. On the cover of one of their booklets on the website you provided I noticed a photo of the auditorium on what was Armstrong’s Pasadena campus of Ambassador College. And many of the doctrines sound all too familiar; the Old Testament dietary laws, the “true” Sabbath, no birthdays, no Christmas, the Feast of Unleavened Bread etc.

Yes, they believe they are the original church but can’t explain in any satisfactory way how 1900 years elapsed before they came to the fore. Since they’re the original, then all other churches are wrong, false, Satanic, what have you. They may have congregations throughout the world but they are small and getting smaller. I wouldn’t worry about combating them. The Christian response is to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. They may speak with a nasty tone but don’t pose any threat other than to the peace of mind of their own membership.

Thanks!! 😁

I was thinking about going to one of those types of church of God churches a while back, then I researched a bit More, thank goodness.

They don’t believe in the Holy Spirit and they don’t consider it to be one of the Godhead.

I’m very confused.

It’s really confusing. They say they’re binitarians. They believe the father and Jesus is God but not the Holy Spirit. But they baptize in the name of the trinity??? They baptize in the name of the Father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit which makes no sense. They believe in Polycarp and polycrates. They celebrate Easter on the 14th or 15th of Nissan, i don’t remember which exactly, because of Polycarp. They also said Polycarp and anicetus of Rome excommunicated each other after their argument on which day to celebrate Easter.
