While I didn;t personally like the pill because it seriously affected my sex drive among other things. I never felt like a machine nor did I feel unconnected to my husband or anything like that.

Many of these “so-called” studies are estimates and also rarely discuss the advances in medicine as well as the number of countries with longer life expectancies because of medicine. Much of the starvation in the world is because of struggle over political power and really silly environmental hysteria case such as the San Joaquin Valley where farms are shut down because our government decided to save a minnow rather than provide for millions.

Also, do the words, “be fruitful and multiply” ring a bell?
Yes they do ring a bell but the earth was barely populated at the time…now we have close to 7 billion people. Not saying all should stop procreating…but some people not procreating is probably a good thing at this point.

I must ask, do feel the Bible relates to today’s world?

I’m guessing you’re referring to Luke 23:28-31, in which case I would point out that Jesus is saying “for in deed, the days are coming when people will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed,’ At that time people will say to the mountains, ‘Fall upon us!’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us!’ for if these things are done when the wood is green what will happen when it is dry?”

I think it is important to note that it is the people who are saying “blessed are the barren” not God. God had told us not to consult with fortune tellers and those who try to predict the future because no one knows the day. Yes, life and society today seems very bad, but God does not want us to live as if the world is going to end. Live justly and correctly in case you die today, but do not stop loving (which is what every child is) simply because the physical world will not last forever.

Please let me know if you were thinking about a different quote.
No not that one, but this one.

Luke 21:20 ¶ "But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near.
21 "Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her.
22 "For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
23 "**But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! **For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people.

You are correct Jesus didn’t say ‘blessed are the barren’ but He didn’t condemn it either. He reported what will happen.

That kind of sounds like the fall of Isreal to the Romans in 70 AD. Not only that but Jesus never said don’t have children in that reference, He merely stated that it will be a hard time for the Jews. Have you ever considered that the lack of children in this society also parallels the increased divorce rate???

Condoms are gross. And not sexy. And gross. Did I mention gross?
The pill, ugh, don’t get me started. It made me bloated, and want Cheetos (also gross). Besides, 99% effective - uh, not quite.
So says mommy of twins conceived whilst taking the pill. Every day. At the same time. Without fail.
For Pete’s sake, the side effects SUCK, and it didn’t even work. Why bother? 🤷

Oddly, even without being Catholic, or christian (having both been atheist, actually) my husband and I both agreed we would never be sterilized. He couldn’t quite place his finger on it, as to why it bothered him, but he did say ‘I married YOU. I married ALL of you. If you had your tubes tied, it would be like you got broken.’ 🤷
As for me, my reason was a little, well, darker. This probably sounds crazy, but, I thought, if I died, and my husband was fortunate enough to meet someone as FREAKING AWESOME as me (highly unlikely of course! :p) I think it would be a tragedy if he couldn’t grow his family anymore, y’know? All because of a decision a dead woman had made. Does that make sense? I know, it’s weird. I don’t really expect anyone to agree with it, but since my husband and I are both so young, I thought, if he were to meet a woman his own age, she might want to experience children throughout their WHOLE lives, not just the kids her husband already came with. I thought it would be selfish of me to want him to get a vasectomy. 🤷 I know, I know, it’s very odd.

Interestingly, since our twins were conceived while on the pill, sex has always been pretty terrifying. I mean, as much as people THINK they can control when babies come, they can’t. So, for us, being ‘open to life in the marital act’ was actually the easy part! We ALREADY knew that every time we had sex there was the chance of creating a new life (or a couple of new lives) so sex was, and still is, pretty scary, because
sex = babies. All the time. I don’t care what a pill manufacturer says.
I am, apparently, incredibly fertile.
NFP actually worked like a champ for two years, then we decided we wanted another kid (I blame it on the a-a-a-a-a-lcohol) and I stopped charting and people I KID YOU NOT I was pregnant within a week. A FREAKING WEEK. And of course it’s twins, again. Maybe one day I’ll have A baby. Like, just the one. That would be new, and novel. Blarg!
In case anyone was worried about repopulating the world after a nuclear war, rest your fears. These ovaries have GOT IT COVERED! We’ll be back to 6 billion in a blink!

I do not see where you got the idea that Jesus is saying it is “wise” not to have children. “Woe” indicates the suffering and pain that will occur at that time, but that does not mean mothers should avoid children in order to avoid pain. Jesus showed us that we should not fear suffering for the sake of love.

I can see where you read this as a doomsday prophesy, but keep in mind Jesus was speaking specifically of Jerusalem’s destruction, when the Jewish people run to the hills - which is what they did, and why we have the Dead Sea Scrolls. If you read the passage further, Jesus says:

“They will fall by the edge of the sword and be taken as captives to all the Gentiles; and Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.” Luke 21:24)

It seems as though when Jesus says “all the scriptures are fulfilled” He was referring to the Jewish scriptures, which were the only ones that existed in the time of Jesus. Considering many Christians have Gentile, rather than Jewish ancestry, the idea of a “time of the Gentiles” seems pretty contemporary.

‘Whereas only one of 1,000 women who take oral contraceptive pills “perfectly” becomes pregnant within a year, 50 of 1,000 women who take the pills “typically” become pregnant within one year.’

You were that one out of a thousand. You suggest it doesn’t even work? The science proves it works 99.9% of the time when used perfectly.

I’d say that that’s some stellar performance! 👍

I’m well aware of what the pill manufacturer says. When you’re the 1, though, it’s small consolation that it’s effective…for everyone else. 👍

Haha 😃 I enjoyed your post - a little weird, but funny

God Bless

Not at all, not in the slightest. I felt more like a machine when we were trying to have a baby.

Uhm, my source isn’t the manufacturer, it’s the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Oral contraceptions are nearly as good as abstinence in preventing pregnancy! 😉

So, I’m not alone!!! 👍

Actually, my friends and I all lament the energy, time and effort required in conceiving and we all have a good chuckle about it. All of us agree, in our younger years, none of us could have ever imagined a time in our lives when we’d not want to partake! 😃

Sure pack more people onto the planet, a 100 billion sounds about right…earth will never run out of natural resources, fresh water and land to grow food!

Yeah, all that over population jazz is a myth.

Yeah, all that over population jazz is a myth.
I’m glad we can agree on something.

Yes, I understand this is not your position and you were being sarcastic. I believe the cry of overpopulation stems from the governments that want less people in the world making them easier to control.

This site breaks down overpopulation “Barney-style”, that’s very simple for those who don’t understand. One section actually uses mathematics to show how the entire worlds population fits into a land mass the size of Texas with each person getting a 33’ by 33’ plot of land.

Yes, pack more people (with brains) onto the planet. Hey, maybe one of them will find the cure for cancer! You know what they say, two heads are better than one.

Wait, you’re being sarcastic. You think that every mouth to feed will simply be a mouth to feed. People only consume, they don’t produce anything. People will not help to create more efficient technology to better utilize our natural resources because we are the smartest generation ever, and only the people who are alive today will be able to answer life’s problems.

There are many countries that do not have a sustainable birth rate. With each person being a new source of intelligence and a new source of love, I would emphatically say that believing in the overpopulation MYTH is not good.

Yes, people are living longer, but people are also having less children. We still have wars and we still have natural disasters, including random outbreaks of fatal disease. Life/Death is not predictable. Fooling yourself into thinking that math can tell the future is not reality.

it really is. if you took the entire population of the world, and stood them shoulder to shoulder, they would only cover the state of texas. also i assume you are from canada. love it there. but have you ever been up north. plenty of room yet. and we have the desert southwest in the states. again plenty of room. as far as natural resources go, we have the same amount of water now, as when the world began. its a cycle. and im sure, the Creator gave us our brains for a reason. we can figure out a way to increase resources. they are already doing this in states like maine, where the logging industry is big. they replant trees to replace the ones they cut down. in fact there are more trees now than when they began logging. not too difficult. maybe ill move to canada and add one more american to yalls population. walkerton is a nice town! 😉 peace to you and yours 🙂

He didn’t say keep having them.

What do you think Jesus meant when He said ‘Woe’ to those with child?
