The truth is, many of the world’s populations are not reproducing at the rate necessary to perpetuate human life. People tend to forget that while every child is a “new mouth to feed,” they also come with two hands and a brain which are great for creating things, solve problems that face humanity, and can even take care of you in you when you in your old age. Every child is not just another mouth to feed, but a new source of love. I think that is why God wanted us to be fruitful.

If you study the facts about population growth, Christians have stopped reproducing, which works well for Asians in the middle east. We should all go out to get fitted for our new clothing attire, it will be the next fashion craze I hear. Muslims aren’t afraid to replenish the earth. It’s just a matter of time now.

Condoms are gross. And not sexy. And gross. Did I mention gross?
The pill, ugh, don’t get me started. It made me bloated, and want Cheetos (also gross). Besides, 99% effective - uh, not quite.
So says mommy of twins conceived whilst taking the pill. Every day. At the same time. Without fail.
For Pete’s sake, the side effects SUCK, and it didn’t even work. Why bother? 🤷

Oddly, even without being Catholic, or christian (having both been atheist, actually) my husband and I both agreed we would never be sterilized. He couldn’t quite place his finger on it, as to why it bothered him, but he did say ‘I married YOU. I married ALL of you. If you had your tubes tied, it would be like you got broken.’ 🤷
As for me, my reason was a little, well, darker. This probably sounds crazy, but, I thought, if I died, and my husband was fortunate enough to meet someone as FREAKING AWESOME as me (highly unlikely of course! :p) I think it would be a tragedy if he couldn’t grow his family anymore, y’know? All because of a decision a dead woman had made. Does that make sense? I know, it’s weird. I don’t really expect anyone to agree with it, but since my husband and I are both so young, I thought, if he were to meet a woman his own age, she might want to experience children throughout their WHOLE lives, not just the kids her husband already came with. I thought it would be selfish of me to want him to get a vasectomy. 🤷 I know, I know, it’s very odd.

Interestingly, since our twins were conceived while on the pill, sex has always been pretty terrifying. I mean, as much as people THINK they can control when babies come, they can’t. So, for us, being ‘open to life in the marital act’ was actually the easy part! We ALREADY knew that every time we had sex there was the chance of creating a new life (or a couple of new lives) so sex was, and still is, pretty scary, because
sex = babies. All the time. I don’t care what a pill manufacturer says.
I am, apparently, incredibly fertile.
NFP actually worked like a champ for two years, then we decided we wanted another kid (I blame it on the a-a-a-a-a-lcohol) and I stopped charting and people I KID YOU NOT I was pregnant within a week. A FREAKING WEEK. And of course it’s twins, again. Maybe one day I’ll have A baby. Like, just the one. That would be new, and novel. Blarg!
In case anyone was worried about repopulating the world after a nuclear war, rest your fears. These ovaries have GOT IT COVERED! We’ll be back to 6 billion in a blink!

Walkerton population - 5000

Starting May 15, 2000

At least seven people died directly from drinking the E. coli contaminated water, who might have been saved if the Walkerton Public Utilities Commission had admitted to contaminated water sooner, and about 2,500 became ill.

You just don’t get it do you? It’s not the space, it’s the sustainability. I do not envy your ’ don’t worry, be happy, the Lord will provide ’ mind set.

Sure there’s physically plenty of water, but how much of it is fresh, clean, potable and in areas where populations actually live and can be consumed without uber expensive chemical treatment and processing?

How many Walkertons will there have to be until people like you start to understand the problem?
And who are you to determine sustainability? I think you’re playing God, like the Ag engineers that will surely find a way to kill us accidentally because of genetic engineering our food supply.

I think everyone misses the reality of it all. Ever heard of the Malthusian Theory… populations growth, then boom, plummets. It’s not man’s choice to make. It’s God, and if you don’t believe in God it’s natures. Nature will have its way no matter what you try to do. Some call it the circle of God, I call it God’s divine will. No one knows the mind of God and why we go through suffering. We do know from Christ that suffering possesses redemptive qualities. We may not understand it, but we do know it is the way of life, life that was established by our creator, God.

Yes and how much of the drinking water today is contaminated by hormones from your contraceptives? Which also just happens to affect our food supply (i.e. fish).

This surprised me when I first heard about it. Now you hear is all over. The government isn’t about to violate the drug industries right to financial success because it’s retirement systems depend heavily on their financial security so they can retire wit lots of money. I’m being sarcastic. But I do wonder just how much of this sarcasm is actually true. I’ve been reading more and more about how to properly dispose of medication. There are very noticable levels of these drugs within out water supply. Lord knows what it can do to the animal population if it turns out to adversely affect their sustainability. We’re playing God with our own life. They guys heading this way of thinking believe they are gods, just was how difficult it is for them to get their BP heads through the doors.

Look at how BP is treating us little people. I guess BP stand for Big People.🤷

i do remember that happening in walkerton. goodness. has it been that long ago! im gettin old. any how. even when it was just the native americans on this continent, there were times when there water sources got polluted also. it had nothing to do with population. i think it happens alot less now, than it used to. again. the good Lord did give us a brain, to figure this stuff out. oil seeps up from the ocean floor for crying out loud. its not going to suddenly POOF disappear. and if worse comes to worse, has anyone ever heard of boiling water? or using water purification pills. they do work, as i can attest too. also plenty of deer, too many deer for that matter. and being from michigan, i can tell you, they are good eating. and you folks got moose! never had moose. is it good? if every thing went to hell in a hand basket tomorrow i wouldnt worry. all i need is my rifle, my fishing pole, my axe and a few other essentials. every thing i need to survive can go in one ruck sack. i can build a shelter from the items i find on the floor of the woods. can i assume you live in the city? and are college educated? peace 🙂

Let us also not forget that oil came from the earth and has not been processed so I’m sure it has a way of dissipating and naturally returning to the earth.

i honestly wouldnt know, im no scientist. but as far as water goes, thats taught in high school science. doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure that out. now how to get the resources, on a large scale. it many times does 😉 peace 🙂

Eucharisteo said it …the Malthusian theory…populations grow, expand, and then plummet.

So it is better to focus on the life that the Lord has given you. Follow His will, and if you are married, be open to life and trust in Him…and nurture all that you love.

If you study the facts about population growth, Christians have stopped reproducing,
Huh?

There is only one human species. It is increasing very rapidly and the planet is filling. These other concerns about race and religion are xenophobic. The slowing of population growth in some countries is a good thing all around and is a positive result of the country’s rising standard of living. I, for one, am grateful for it. Moreover, there is nothing wrong even with a country’s population going through some reduction (and I don’t mean through calamity or disease).

The situation is far more complicated than having 10 billion people pick shrubbery off the forest floor and build themselves a shelter, or boil water…

I’m not going debate this any further, as there is nothing I can say or produce that will sway you from your ’ the Lord will provide ’ mind set.

***Does contraception make you feel like a machine rather than a real person with the ability to cooperate with God’s creation? How do you deal with this contradiction that I discovered on my own in my previous beliefs? ***

Well,no. That concept is somewhat odd to me.

I suppose, if anything, it would lessen the fear of an unwanted pregnancy? Of course this will annoy people no end, but…well. there it is.

But…hum. I would think if you feel that having sex for something other than procreation, i.e. expressing love in its purest (physical) form to your SO was ok, you wouldn’t feel like a machine, would you?
Ah, heck. I don’t know…

Is there a belief that you should NOT see sex as expressing love alone? Is that why the feeling of “being a machine” would be there?
I do recall other religions have this idea…sex is for procreation only, and expressing love beyond that is wrong.
I don’t quite get that, but, hey, to each his own.
Even with a practically non-existent sex drive…I don’t get that. Sounds rather sad, if you ask me…

I agree with you. When using contraception, I really appreciate knowing that the probability of having an unwanted pregnancy is very, very low.

Does contraception make you feel like a machine rather than a real person with the ability to cooperate with God’s creation? How do you deal with this contradiction that I discovered on my own in my previous beliefs?
Well, it’s odd, because I have always felt precisely the opposite way. Contraception has always made me feel like less of a machine, like a creation of God’s with an identity and a purpose of his own, rather than a machine designed to perpetuate my genetic code or a support mechanism for the rearing of children.

That’s an awfully tendentious way of putting it, of course, but no more so than your formulation. Still, if that describes how contraception makes you feel, I suppose you oughtn’t use it. For many others, there’s no real contradiction to hammer out.

do you know why Judaism teaches that preventing procreation is also a sin?

Trying to make babies has made me feel like a machine, but in a good, macho kind of way. Maybe even moreso than just being “open to life”.
