Why is the Catholic Church against the use of contraceptives?
It is intrinsically evil. Here is a good starting point for reading on the subject. Why is the Catholic Church against the use of contraceptives?
While the purpose of using a contraceptive is to prevent conception, that doesn’t make it bad to use one.Because it attempts to divorce human sexuality from one of the prime (but not only) goals and outcomes of human sexuality, the creation of new life. It also inevitably leads to the abortion mentality, where “failures” of contraception not only can but should be remedied by removing the “unwanted” new child.
It’s the same reason that the Church would be against binging and purging, but it is a vastly more serious issue since new life is involved.
Contraception is an intrinsically evil way to space children. Of course, we are talking within marriage. Because outside of marriage sexual relations are also a moral evil. While the purpose of using a contraceptive is to prevent conception, that doesn’t make it bad to use one.
This is a myth. Persistent, but a myth. And most abortions wouldn’t happen if people used contraceptives correctly,
Actually, that isn’t any argument at all.so that argument attacks people’s negligence rather than birth control itself.
How are these things evil?Contraception is an intrinsically evil way to space children. Of course, we are talking within marriage. Because outside of marriage sexual relations are also a moral evil.
Because it creates an unnecessary problem to people. If people used contraception correctly then the only abortions that would occur would be due to the less than 1% failure rate of birth control, instances of rape, life of the mother or disabilities in the unborn child. Why, if you “have no opposition to it”?
No, it isn’t.This is a myth. Persistent, but a myth.
He said that failures of contraception lead to abortion, which they might well do. I was just stating that it was a bad objection to birth control, because if people used it properly then there would be no need for as many abortions.Actually, that isn’t any argument at all.

You have no opposition to abortion because you don’t think that the unborn child is really a human. If you realized that it is then you would think abortion to be the abortion of a Life, otherwise known as murder. Where did these people err? While the purpose of using a contraceptive is to prevent conception, that doesn’t make it bad to use one.
As for abortion, I have no opposition to it, although I’d prefer it if abortion wasn’t as common as it currently is. And most abortions wouldn’t happen if people used contraceptives correctly, so that argument attacks people’s negligence rather than birth control itself.
A married couple can lust after one another. That is, a married couple can misuse sex. Extreme example: a husband forcing sex. At the point that a couple is using contraceptives they have changed their view of sex to being a recreational activity. It is no longer something that is done to glorify God or to love the spouse but is rather an act that is meant only to try to get some artificial satisfaction. Contraception is “evil”, not because not having a child is evil, but because using our spouses is evil. How are these things evil?
That’s true; I don’t see an unborn child as a human. I do, however, see babies as humans. You have no opposition to abortion because you don’t think that the unborn child is really a human. If you realized that it is then you would think abortion to be the abortion of a Life, otherwise known as murder. Where did these people err?
This is nonsensical. You’re saying that if people have sex using contraception then they are only doing it to disobey God and to get pleasure only for themselves, even though you can focus on pleasing your partner as well as yourself.A married couple can lust after one another. Contraception is “evil”, not because not having a child is evil, but because using our spouses is evil.
No.Well, let’s start at the beginning. Do you believe in God?
Very interesting. What is your “good reason” for believing than humanity doesn’t begin until one is born? I ask this because you claimed in another thread(dealing with the idea of rejecting God) that you don’t believe in things without “good reason”. So I’m wondering what the good reason is for this particular belief. And I’ll add in advance that you specified a “good” reason, not merely any reason. That’s true; I don’t see an unborn child as a human. I do, however, see babies as humans.
Excellent question, my friend! Please consider the following concepts:Why is the Catholic Church against the use of contraceptives?
That’s not a very rational view. What is an “unborn child” if not a human being? A tomato? A goat? At what point does its DNA magically change to human DNA? At what point did you go from non-human to human? That’s true; I don’t see an unborn child as a human. I do, however, see babies as humans.
Is a sperm a human being? That’s not a very rational view. What is an “unborn child” if not a human being? A tomato? A goat? At what point does its DNA magically change to human DNA? At what point did you go from non-human to human?
Will a sperm, if left alone in its natural environment, become a bouncing baby girl or boy?Is a sperm a human being?
No. And unless it is united with an ova, it will die without producing anything. How is this relevant to an unborn child? Is a sperm a human being?
I would argue that it takes a society to raise a child into a member of society. So not even an unborn child would “if left alone in its natural environment” become an adult. But I do not think that makes an unborn child any less of a human. So I don’t see how your point works. Will a sperm, if left alone in its natural environment, become a bouncing baby girl or boy?
This is not a hard concept.
It’s simple if you read the post I was quoting.No. And unless it is united with an ova, it will die without producing anything. How is this relevant to an unborn child?
At what point does its DNA magically change to human DNA? At what point did you go from non-human to human?
