It seems like there’s been far more controversy about the cultural aspects of this commercial than the two men holdings hands with each other and a little girl while ice skating.
I’ll admit I didn’t even notice that. I was too busy listening and trying to figure out what all the different languages were (for fun - I like languages. 🤷)

That would be kind of silly. I do not watch news channels so I might have missed some of these points. Yet that would be why I do not watch FOX or CNN. The are more like political speeches than news.

While I have no problem with the different races singing the song, it should have been sung entirely in English. This is America. English is the de facto language. Learn to speak it.
Well, then to really sing the song in the language(s) of America, it should have been done in Iroquoian, Siouan or some other Native American language, since they were here long before English was. And, in reality, Spanish and French took precedence over English when Europeans first arrived and settled. Actually, one of the languages used in the ad was probably a Native American tongue.

Also, just as a reminder, for many decades and even centuries, there was no uniform single language. There were even Catholic parishes that had Masses in French, Italian, German, Polish, Spanish, etc. And now they are being said in other languages as well. Not that long ago, one could walk through particular neighborhoods and hear non-English languages being primarily spoken, and signs printed in non-English words. Oops, I guess one still can do that!

If any country in the world should be open to a variety of cultures and languages it should be the U.S.; for isn’t that how we were created and why we succeeded?

As to the “same-sex couple”, I too had a difficult time determining what was being referred to, but after repeated viewings I figured it out. Apparently, when ever two people of the same sex are near each other, smile at each other, or reach out to each other, we must assume they are a “same-sex” couple (I will have to remember to tell my bowling buddies not to stand too close to me, or put their hand on my shoulder…are hi-fives still okay?).

I said it was the de facto language; I didn’t say it was the original language.

I give my best friends big hugs. I will walk arm-in-arm with them. I guess when it is a girl’s night out people think we are a bunch of lesbians. lol.

High fives are fine. You aren’t allowed to chest bump. 😃

Have you seen the controversial Coca-Cola Ad?

Have you seen its behind the scenes clip?

For many, the issue seems to be controversial mainly because of the cultural or racial diversity aspect of the commercial. What many don’t notice perhaps is how it also featured a same-sex couple. What makes this commercial confusing and dangerous is that it apparently equates the permissiveness on cultural diversity with that on same-sex relationships.

If Coke continues to promote same sex marriage, I’ll be seriously reconsidering abandoning soda altogether.
Only controversial to some. Most viewers would realize that we live in a diverse society.

On a somewhat related note, did you notice in the Cheerios commercial the interracial couple?
This is America, but that doesn’t mean a song in a commercial for the Superbowl can’t be sung in a language other than English. I would also note that two states within the United States recognize languages other than English as official languages of those states. This is America and English is the de facto language . . . for now.

Sure it promotes homosexuality. Of course it does. Typical of the times and a disservice to children who were watching.

The rest of it was kind of neat though. Too bad those parts were in support of a beverage as awful-tasting as Coke.

Was it a disservice to children due to fact that Coke is a nutritional disaster, or for some other reason?

I never saw the ad before now. I never buy coke anyway and that ad isn’t about to make me start. I would sooner use coke to remove varnish than drink it.

I wonder if people would be upset if the entire song was in French, considering that is actually one of the official languages of the U.S.

I might be misunderstanding, but I thought there was no official language of the U.S… At least on the wiki site and some other ones I looked at to make sure, it’s listed that there’s none on the national level. 🤷

Hmm…I guess I’ve confused the U.S. with the U.N.,since the popes have used French for their visits. 😊

One more time: I said English is the de facto language; not the *official *language. The U.S. has no official language.

The pro-same sex relationship part is easy to miss in the ad itself, but the behind the scenes clip makes the message clear - we should be as accepting of same sex relationships as we are of cultural diversity. However, the two are not comparable because the former is necessarily immoral. In other words, the ad is erroneously promoting moral relativism.

In any case, it’s official: Coke is pro gay marriage. It only took me this particular ad to realize it. Time to abstain from this product, among others.

Best uses for Coke I’ve found are cleaning old pennies and getting oil off cement. Considering that I’m pretty sure I want none or at least very little of it in my tummy!

It good for cleaning toilets too.

I really wonder about folks who have their radar tuned for any hint of gayness.
Years ago my brother and his wife came to visit & we decided to give the wives a break so we took the kids out (to an ice skating rink then McD’s). I hate to think that good Christians saw me & my brother out with my son & niece and thinking “those poor children being raised by a gay couple”.
If you saw me at a restaurant with one of my college age nieces would you assume I’m a dirty old man?

If you want paranoia how about the ad is subliminal imperialist American propaganda? Or Zionist? (Jews are represented twice)
Or pro-Muslim, they are portrayed nice and smiley, perhaps trying to weaken our resolve in the War on Terror.

Myself, I figure it’s an ad meant to sell nutritionally worthless fizzy sugar. And if anybody’s gay it’s the guy at 0:32.

It’s comments like these that remind me of people at the store/school/anywhere that give me dirty looks when I speak in Spanish to my family, even though I’ve been in Advanced English classes since 2nd grade, and have no issues speaking the ‘de facto’ language.

Indeed I did. What about it?

Do you live in the U.S.? If so, you should speak English; especially in public.

It will probably cause controversy in some circles as well. Just saying…
