A) Mormons are taught to be kind and friendly in order to gain converts.
B) Mormons are taught the the Roman Catholic Church is the whore of Babylon, the cause of a great apostasy that plunged the world in darkness for 1800 years.

As you have noticed, A and B conflict when Mormons are in conversations with Catholics. They start with A and gradually over time the biases coming from B emerge.
Actually, no. Mormons if they are taught to be kind and friendly is because humans are children of god and it has nothing to do with gaining converts. Are catholics taught to be kind and friendly?

Mormons are not taught that the catholic church is the whore of babylon but I think that they are taught that there was an apostacy and a restoration was needed. And from a religious viewpoint, it does seem that christianity had its problems in keeping the spirit of christ in its history. Need we mention all the bickering that was going on between the church (look what happened to saint john of the cross) or the bickering with other churches and the lack of religious freedom in Europe which caused many religious people to migrate to the USA?

whyme, you know very well you are lying. the hallmark of a mormon who has been caught in the hypocrisy caused by the occasion of A smashing into B.

i forgot to to add C)

C) Mormon apostates all the scum of the earth. Comparable to felons. So when a Catholic is a former Mormon, A is not required, you can jump right to C.

Your true colors show more and more whyme. When are you going to stop calling yourself something you are not?

Actually, mormons are just following the counsel of John Paul listed above and below. It has nothing to do with trying to win someone over. It has to do with bringing the spirit of christ into a discussion.

Learning from our mistakes

Despite these facts, Pope John Paul II warns us:

Yet the consideration of mitigating factors does not exonerate the Church from the obligation to express profound regret for the weaknesses of so many of her sons and daughters who sullied her face, preventing her from fully mirroring the image of her crucified Lord, the supreme witness of patient love and of humble meekness. From these painful moments of the past a lesson can be drawn for the future, leading all Christians to adhere fully to the sublime principle stated by the Council:** “The truth cannot impose itself except by virtue of its own truth, as it wins over the mind with both gentleness and power**.”2

Whyme you didn’t answer the question, I don’t see the Dogma cited.

Please stop putting your mormon spin on Catholic teaching.

We impose nothing on the LDS who come here. We DEFEND what they ATTACK. And you whyme, are on the side that attacks.

You are wrong. But that is okay. Mormons have helped me to decorate my new home. They didn´t do it to win me back. Rather, they did it because they saw me as a human being and as a child of god. And of course, I also knew them. I just gave them a thank you party. The mormons that I know do not think that apostates are the scum of the earth. They may think of them as misguided, especially if they are fighting against the lds church. But those who just leave, are looked upon by most mormons as human beings who made a wrong choice to leave. And it is hoped that they will return someday.

Rebecca I’d rather hand out w an “apostate” like you in outer darkness than eternally begetting spirit children, one of possibly many wives, subject to my husband for eternity!!! Oh-and the “shining face of Joseph Smith” would make me ill anyway

That is nice whyme. You are still enamored of mormon kindness and have not experienced their betrayal. You haven’t figured out their kindness has a price. I sincerely hope it doesn’t happen to you.

That is because you haven’t left. Leave, and the lip service is shown to be just that.

Why would they have to “win you back”, you’ve stated on more that one occasion that you are a Mormon in good standing.

😃

A mormon once told a non-mormon friend of mine that she was going to the celestial kingdom. She said this because my friend helped the mormon fix something.

My friend gloated for days, telling me she was going to the CK and I wasn’t. She said though that she would come party with me in OD. You can partay with us!

You will see that JLFuller and ParkerD keep saying things like, you will be where you want to be. This is an insult that a non-mormon would never get. Telling us we have chosen something less than the CK because that is where we want to be. It is the mormon pyramid marketing mentality shining through. IF we wanted to move to the top of the pyramid, we would have the ambition to do it.

This is why I say, they believe we lack a quality, that quality being: the ambition to be a god.

Yes, and eventually the arrogance rears it’s ugly head as the affect of believing one to be a god in embryo form would eventually have on the fallen race we truly are.

Why would they have to “win you back”, you’ve stated on more that one occasion that you are a Mormon in good standing.
I was referring to Rebecca’s post as an example of mormon kindness. I am very involved with the catholic church too.

You don’t know many mormons do you? Strange how kindness can be dragged through the mud. Those poor mormons just can’t win.

In a strange way, most devout catholics can be called arrogant as they believe that through their devoutness they will go to heaven as others who are less devout may spend some time in purgatory. And of course, many protestants have the concept of heaven and hell with the non christian heading to hell or the sinful christian heading to hell too.

I shudder to think of the bloody reign of Bring’ em Young and the Danites had they got their start 2000 years ago.
If they had started 2000 years ago in Jerusalem, they would have conformed to the local political will, and disappeared into history.

More like the less we offend God through sin, the less purification we need-not the amount of soup kitchens we volunteer at. True Christians realize just how very far we have fallen and that we can’t do anything good without the grace of God. Not the other way around “after all I have done grace saves me” Actually, I do know lots of mormons-they are mostly mind-numbingly nice-that is-until theology is brought up and you happen to be one of those knowledgeable “meat before the milk” types. Their hearts are on the right place from what I ascertain and they go about busily attending to their church app and duties as they belong to the greatest humanitarian club/corp of our time. But they worship a false god and have a false Jesus. They are kept busy so they don’t question-hey just exactly where is all that money I pay go or hey-they changed the intro to the BOM -or hey-did hinkley just lie on larry king?

And I have read “Mein Kampf”. It appears to me that he was very well acquainted with the negative aspect of Mormonism and the Book of Mormon, and may have been a Jack-Mormon. He pursued WWII thinking that his Mormon “friends” would have prevented the US from entering the war. Read it for yourself, unless you think it would inflame your Nazi tendencies more than they are.
(laughing)

Oh, Jerusha…I object to your insults by proving that you are incorrect about the numbers, thus nailing your illogical argument to the rhetorical wall…and the best you can come up with in response is to call me a NAZI?

That’s…delicious. Right out of the third grade manual of debate at recess, the “turn blue in the face and sputter” chapter.

It amazes me how completely Godwins’ law rules the internet.

the ONLY church that is innocent of any hint of taint from Hitler’s Nazism is…

The Jehovah’s Witnesses–and they weren’t opposing Hitler and Nazism specifically. They then, as they do now, oppose all governments, even the ‘good’ ones. Catholics did oppose Hitler and the Holocaust–but not at first. Indeed, during the first days of the Riech there was a great deal of Catholic support for Nazism–(the Concordat signed in 1933, anybody?) hard not to be given that the Vatican was in, well, ITALY. It is very much to the credit of the church that it did eventually wake up. However, it wasn’t ‘awake’ in 1939, when Pope Pius III sent a personal note of congratulations to Hitler on his survival of an assassination attempt…and was in support of Nazism at that time, at least.

Given that the Jews were being officially banned from pretty much everything beginning in 1933, and were being killed by the traincarload by 1939, this is a little, oh…

Well, I think you get the picture, yes?

The problem was that none of us could truly fathom the depth of the evil involved; nobody could actually believe it.

Just as an aside, there is no mention of Mormonism in Mein Kampf, nor any hint of any aspect of Mormonism, negative or positive.
Oh, but please feel free to show us the quotes in which Hitler refers to or mentions the Mormons in any way in “Mien Kampf.” It should be entertaining.

Oh, and as a final aside, you do realize that Hitler was raised Catholic, right?

(laughing)

Mormons have necro-baptized Adolf Hitler and have done his temple work. Performing a marriage sealing to Eva Braun. Several times, just to be sure I guess. I’m thinking y’all can have him.

And perhaps you should study up on what Mormons were saying about Nazi Germany. How it was SO inline with Mormon views of race and how Mormons living in Germany supported the Nazi party, as your god’s party. You know, how mormons always seem to view governments as instituted by your god?

The IGI (International Genealogical Index) reveal that Adolf Hitler was “baptized” and “endowed” on December 10, 1993, and “sealed” to his parents on March 12, 1994. These events took place in the London Temple, England.
The IGI also show that Hitler was "sealed" to Braun on September 28, 1993, in the Jordan River Temple, Utah and on June 14, 1994, in the Los Angeles Temple.

Care to give us a quote or two?

I’m very, very, VERY tired of the insults being thrown around here without any back up.

Yes, Hitler was, evidently, given a proxy baptism by a cousin or somebody. Personally, I don’t mind…it’s very much a ‘coals of fire’ sort of thing. However, a proxy baptism (that, quite frankly, cements his condemnation far more than it would ‘save’ him) is hardly on the same level as having been born, baptized and raised Catholic, is it–and never having been excommunicated?

In reality, Hitler was…whatever he thought his audience wanted him to be, whether that was Christian, or pagan, or atheist. You can find quotes from him that support pretty much anything–except, of course, LDS. 😉

However, his mother was a devout Catholic and she raised him that way. That, unfortunately, is historical fact. Again, sorry about that.

Rebecca: you are a prime example of the sort of person that was meant when it was said 'they leave, but they don’t leave us alone."

You don’t see that your own bitterness is flavoring the stew here.
