Subsequently if I could ask you two questions?
  1. Have you ever been to a Tridentine Mass?
  2. Have you ever read the Catechism (specifically- # 460)?
Also- with the lack of Old Testament focus in Catholicism- I think neither you nor I have the right to truly discuss the BOM. But that’s just my opinion. Help me understand your point of view if I’m incorrect.
Wow. Please speak for yourself w regard to your own ignorance of the scriptures.

Consider starting a new thread w your questions so as to not derail this one anymore than it already has.

  1. No i have not been to a Tridentine Mass, but what it is your point?:
My point is that Catholicism is rooted in many more archaic traditions, ceremonies, and superstitions than a Temple could ever hold. Think of the Blessing of the Throat ceremony, for example.
  1. I was Baptized last year into Catholicism and for more then one year we studied the Bible and the Catechism, yes i have read about 90 % of it.
Congratulations!:)- I teach Catechism and my point was a response to your “Mormon ‘cult’/ becoming gods” comment. They are not the only faith to believe in progression (although the end results are vastly different, I digress from my point that the focus should be the capability of progressing- grace vs. works in this capability is another discussion).
This is an overview of #460
catholicculture.org/culture/library/catechism/cat_view.cfm?recnum=2153&repos=5&subrepos=8&searchid=422648

Also- check out the works of Tertullian and the Ante-Nicene Fathers on the matter.
Maybe you dont feel that its your place to discuss the BOM, but I feel that i have a place to discuss the BOM because before i was baptized into the Catholic faith I was Mormon for 23 years, went to BYU and during which I have probably read the BOM 10-12 times, not including the Doctrine and Covenants. I have unfortunately also been involved with temple ceremonies during my stint as mormon. I hope this helps… God bless:thumbsup:
No, as a Roman Catholic I don’t feel I know about the background of the BOM when I don’t have the experience with the OT. My area researching and publishing includes the pedagogy of David McKay and St. Ignatius Loyola. Maybe you could help us out with your background?

Finally, I’m more interested in one phrase you wrote: why do you feel that your time in the LDS church was only a “stint?” I’m happy you converted and I wish you well- but you make it sound like it was only meant to be a temporal phase?

Ok you don’t know the scriptures and consider the T mass full of superstition?! You should NOT be teaching Catechism and are part of the problem!! Of course we can “progress” in holiness, but not eventual godhood!

Wow- such bitterness and personal attacks! Very “Christian” of you! 😉

Regardless, I was connecting the view on eternal progression in both faiths- so read the my previous post carefully, and the following by Tertullian,

“We shall be even gods, if we shall deserve to be among those of whom He declared, ‘I have said, Ye are gods,’” (Ps. 82:6) and, “God standeth in the congregation of the gods.” (Ps. 82:1). But this comes of His own grace, not from any property in us, because it is He who can make gods.

I mentioned previously that the topic of grace vs. works is not up for discussion in this thread. So- have a great day!👍

Let’s see… The Great Apostasy… would that be when the mormons reversed their former position and started allowing abortions in the cases of deformity, risk to the mothers health, rape, incest, and risk to the mothers life, basically canonizing Roe Vs. Wade??? Or would the GREAT Apostasy be when on November 5,2008, Elder L. Whitney Clayton speaking officially for the LDS church stated “the LDS Church does not oppose civil unions or domestic partnerships that involve legal protections for gay and lesbian couples.”
This statement followed up by Utah Governor Huntsmans support has energized the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender movement here in Utah. Assuring us the battle has just begun, on Feb. 2, 2009 Equality Utah launched a new massive ad campaign with newspaper and radio ads and two huge billboards along I-15, one near Lehi which reads “The LDS Church does not object to rights for same-sex couples and One near South Salt Lake which reads; “83% of Utahns agree: Gay people should have legal protections.” Mike Thompson executive director of Equality Utah speaking of this new approach said; “We’ve modeled our legislative proposals directly from the statements of the LDS church“. All of which goes to show the (LBGT) movement realizes the extreme momentum that the LDS church has given to them here in Utah and they are going to push it.

Is it possible have the accusers (mormons) of Christ’s true church (Catholics) apostatized more in 200 years, then the Catholics have in 2000 years??? Everyone should know that Catholics oppose all abortions and they should also know that when it comes to Gay and lesbians etc;
We still believe in the Bible, real history, and the facts and statistics showing the disastrous consequences of these forbidden lifestyles.
As a Rock in the storm, the 2000 year old Catholic Church, continuing in its unchanging tradition leads in the fight against the legal recognition of these lifestyles for good reason; 2000 years of experience watching the devastation of those who reject Christ’s clear teachings. The Catholic churches arguments are addressed not only to those who believe in Christ, but to all persons committed to promoting and defending the common good of society. Speaking on the issue of legal rights Pope Benedict has said, and I quote; “All Catholics are obliged to oppose the legal recognition of homosexual unions, Catholic politicians are obliged to do so in a particular way, in keeping with their responsibility as politicians. Faced with legislative proposals in favor of homosexual unions, Catholic politicians are to take account of the following ethical indications.
When legislation in favor of the recognition of homosexual unions is proposed for the first time in a legislative assembly, the Catholic law-maker has a moral duty to express his opposition clearly and publicly and to vote against it. To vote in favor of a law so harmful to the common good is gravely immoral”… Clearly Mormons are just another apostate cult that couldn’t hold on to any truth for more than a few years. “they shall turn their ears away from the truth… and shall be turned unto fables” The Apostle Paul

 Haha, you (and Equity Utah) took the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ words out of context. What they said was:

"the church does not object to rights for same-sex couples regarding hospitalization and medical care, fair housing and employment rights, or probate rights.”

This is not marriage rights, which is what you were implying.

God became man so that man might become God; i.e., the Lord assumed human nature so that we who are members of His Body might have a share in His Divine Nature. God is Life and Happiness itself, we share in His Life and Happiness, hence we are said to share in His very Nature.

Polytheism, which you are advocating by saying we will become actual gods, is incompatible with monotheism. There cannot be both only one god and more than one god. That’s illogical, irrational, deceptive, and just plain stupid.

Edit: I find it funny you’re quoting from a Mormon writer about deification in the Church Fathers. (source)

You’re right this is what they said on one occasion on another occasion they said and I quote word for word: “the LDS Church does not oppose civil unions or domestic partnerships that involve legal protections for gay and lesbian couples.” (speaking officially for the LDS Church on November 5,2008, Elder L. Whitney Clayton). The LDS church understood what these words meant as did the LBGT community and the Governor of Utah: this support has energized the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender movement here in Utah. Regardless the Catholic church opposes any homosexual specific rights and refuses to legitimize these lifestyles by giving them legal status rights. the mormon church on the other hand has openly apostatized from their former position and is trying to give these unions legitimacy and rights.

can you link to the entire statement/speech made by Elder Clayton please?

It’s not bitterness but righteous anger against someone who, by their own admission does not “know” the OT and being RC, assumes the same of all other RC’s and uses this as a false premise to disqualify RC’s from being able to discuss or understand the BOM.
I did read your post and comparing the heresy of progressing to eventual godhood and the Christian belief of progressing in personal holiness is --well-- there IS NO comparison!!

Trying to find “common ground” in this area is pointless–there is none.

You are incorred. If traditions and the bible are from God and given to us from God then there will be no controdiction between the them. but there is. the bible says nothing about purgatory, praying to Mary, or that we need a priest forgive our sins. For the believer his sins are already forgiven by God. There is no sin that will send the believer to hell.

well Jesus heard the first confession on the cross, when the criminal asked him to forgive his sins the cross also being the official symbol of Christianity a symbol you deny i wounder whats that means

the only LDS doctrine that should be called “doctrine” can be found in either the standard works (with more than one point of reference) or in the agreed-upon written words of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
Sola scriptura Mormon style. Are the “doctrines” that were in the Book of Commandments, but were not later included in the Doctrine and Covenents part of Mormon “doctrine”?

No. I would have thought you would know how I would answer that question based on the statement from me that you quoted.

Here’s a bulletin for you: God let’s man progress–even prophets. The “Book of Commandments” wasn’t a finished product. Have a good day.

Why were they in the D&C and why were they removed?

Why were they in the D&C and why were they removed?
and what about the problematic lectures on faith that were removed from the D&C (without a vote by the membership) that are still referenced in the D&C today as being good for teaching?

Elder Clayton’s statement was on the official LDS web site. However, after I and others wrote articles, and protested with the Utah legislature that statement has since been removed. I suggest if you want verification of the statement and its support by the highest LDS church leadership you call the Office of the First Presidency here in Utah at 1801-240-1000

 When I enter your quote: “the LDS Church does not oppose civil unions or domestic partnerships that involve legal protections for gay and lesbian couples.”
into google, only one website came up. I would think that if there was such protest against this statement, there would be more references to it.
