Religio71,
I have no idea whether the primitive Church believed in a “Heavenly Mother”. It is important to realize that anyone who had any knowledge about this kind of subject, understood that they were strictly forbidden to talk about it or write about it, because of its sacredness and because God only reveals knowledge “line upon line, precept upon precept,” not carte blanche. (I personally am far more offended and guarded when someone acts disrespectfully to my wife, as opposed to acting disrespectfully to me personally. Maybe there is a lesson there.)
Genesis 1 says
26 ¶ And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
That is pretty clear language. No uncertainty about it, although of course it is a translation and the Hebrew would be the better source.
