If anybody has any more conversion stories, please keep bringing them! I enjoyed reading them.
Try looking at the actual context. The ability to forgive sins was given exclusively to the eleven, and their successors by way of Apostolic Succession…and yes the office of Apostle was an office that needed to be filled.See I said that I would get some remarks about what I said and you were the first. Congratulations.
His brothers and sisters did not believe he was who he said he was. When he said this is your mother he was saying she is the mother of us all and when he said this is your son it meant that we are all children of her, spiritually not physically.
We all can forgive someone who has sinned against us.
When Jesus took the bread and gave thanks he broke the bread and said “this is my body, do this in REMEMBERANCE of me. Then he took the cup again he gave thanks and said " this is my blood, do this in REMEMBERANCE of me.” Will you leave me too, means will you leave what I have taught you when I’m gone or will you continue my teachings when I’m gone. Not will you leave the church that has not yet been formed.
Jesus also said the the Holy Spirit will be with all who believe and that he will not lead us astray.
The word He used was “anamnesis” which is the same word as for the Passover - a making present of a past event that manifests an eternal reality - a Jew cannot consider himself Jewish without partaking of the Passover - he himself must eat of the meat of the lamb, in order to be released from the bondage of Egypt.See I said that I would get some remarks about what I said and you were the first. Jesus is making a plain statement that has nothing to do with the future Church or with future teachings of the Apostles. A group of men had left Jesus already, at that moment, and Jesus was saying, “Choose now whom you will follow - them, or Me?”Will you leave me too, means will you leave what I have taught you when I’m gone or will you continue my teachings when I’m gone. Jesus did not say “all who believe” - He said, “thou, Peter.” “Thou” is the singular form of “you” - it is referring to only the one person; not the entire group, and certainly not to the entire human race.Jesus also said the the Holy Spirit will be with all who believe and that he will not lead us astray.
The Greek word for “passover” is pascha the Greek speaking Jews used that word of passover. The word He used was “anamnesis” which is the same word as for the Passover - a making present of a past event that manifests an eternal reality - a Jew cannot consider himself Jewish without partaking of the Passover - he himself must eat of the meat of the lamb, in order to be released from the bondage of Egypt.

Read and understand the plain words of Jesus, without adding to them, or subtracting from them.
This sums it up right here.Ever-Virgin: If Jesus would have had brothers, then why did He give Mary, His Mother to St. John? This would have been a severe slap in the face to any brothers He had.
Confession: If we are not to confess to a priest, then why did Jesus give the Apostles tha authority to forgive sins? (John 20:21)
Real Presence: If the Eucharist is just a symbol, then Jesus would have explained to the Apostles the symbolism in the Bread of Life discourse. He did not, he only asked “Will you too leave me?”
Infallibility: Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would lead the Church into all truth. Did the Holy Spirit abandon the Church?
How do you see that Christ is substantially present in the Eucharist from the words I gave you and the meaning of the words.Which does not contradict what I said… that “remembrance”, as clarified by Paul, refers to Christ’s death. This in no way denies that Christ is substantially present in the Eucharist.
God Bless,
Michael
right, I wasn’t talking about the word for Passover, but rather, the “remembering” of Passover is not the same kind of remembering as we do when we recall an event of the past, nor even a re-enactment of a past event, but rather, the “making present” of that event, so that we ourselves can actively participate in it. “Anamnesis” is this kind of “remembering” rather than the kind where past events remain in the past. The Greek word for “passover” is pascha the Greek speaking Jews used that word of passover.
On the Christian side pascha has 2 meanings 1) passover
2) the sacrifice of Christ.
Yes.Epiclesis-Ancient Greek-inovcation or calling down from on high is that part of the Anaphora (Euchsristic prayer) by which the Priest invokes the Holy Spirit or the power of his blessing, upon the Eucharstic bread and wine.
The Holy Spirit dwells in every believer, but not equally in each one. The Holy Spirit’s actions through a priest are different than His actions through me. It is the same Holy Spirit, doing different (but not self-contradictory) things with different people. The Holy Spirit dwells in every believer, so one must believe in order to have the Holy Spirit.
OOPS. My apologies. Please start another thread to argue these points. You are hijacking this one. :tsktsk:

Can you show me where the word Anamnesis means “making present?” I did not see that in the definitions I supplied.

It has been pointed out that we are off topic in this thread. Got a good Catholic Conversion story?
I dont mind. But I would like to hear more stories. I would give mine, but I don’t think I have time to write too much now. Please start another thread to argue these points. You are hijacking this one. :tsktsk:
Ya I saw that after I posted my last post. As far as the Good Catholic Conversion story goes sorry but I don’t. But I have a Baptist conversion story, but that would be off topic also.It has been pointed out that we are off topic in this thread. Got a good Catholic Conversion story?![]()
We really don’t want to hear why someone would turn their back on the Church founded by Jesus ChristYa I saw that after I posted my last post. As far as the Good Catholic Conversion story goes sorry but I don’t. But I have a Baptist conversion story, but that would be off topic also.
Lighten up. It was meant as a joke.We really don’t want to hear why someone would turn their back on the Church founded by Jesus Christ
Sorry. It is not a joking matter. Souls are in the balance.Lighten up. It was meant as a joke.
Well I guess you don’t have any humor in your life. My soul is just fine, You don’t have to be Catholic for you soul to be in balance.Sorry. It is not a joking matter. Souls are in the balance.
All I know is that any who had the fullness of truth (Catholic) and then rejects it will have much more to answer for than one who never had said truth. To whom much is given, much will be required.Well I guess you don’t have any humor in your life. My soul is just fine, You don’t have to be Catholic for you soul to be in balance.
Who says the Catholic church has the fullness of truth? All I know is that any who had the fullness of truth (Catholic) and then rejects it will have much more to answer for than one who never had said truth. To whom much is given, much will be required.
