Like you, I found myself faced with annulment when I was considering converting to Catholicism. Iāve been married once but my husband was married before, 17 years ago for less than a year. My husband and I have been married over 14 years.
Much of the āprocessā regarding annulment and what would happen while seeking annulment made no sense to me. I eventually decided that Orthodoxy was the path for me.
Are you considering Orthodoxy as an option for you and your family?
It is my understanding that the only impediment in being received by the Orthodox church is a lack of repentance for sins and, of course, not believing in what the Orthodox Church teaches.
Another analogy is that the Orthodox Church is a spiritual hospital. The sickness is sin.
I have also been told that the teaching of the Orthodox Church is that when a person is baptized or chrismated (however it is for the individual) that person becomes a truly new person. Our past is wiped out, as if it never happened. The focus is on where we are going, not where we have been.
