Please pray that I soon get the courage to convert.

I really long to find a home in the Catholic Church, but have a hard time putting it into action by leaving my old denomination. I also find it hard to talk to my parents about it. They may think I’m not as Lutheran as many others, but this they will not be expecting; i fear their reaction and am unsure how to tell them.

I also described my situation in this post: forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=213272

Dear CB,
Pray to the Holy Spirit that He will give you the right words to say to your parents, the courage discuss your conversion with your parents, and the nudge you need to move forward with your conversion. Have you gone to RCIA yet? You probably have. I will be praying for you. When the time is right, you will know it. The Holy Spirit will lay it upon your heart. Do not fear. You will be in my rosaries. Much love,

I will Pray for you tonight. :signofcross:

Don’t forget that sometimes the best decisions can be hard ones.

Ask God to remove the fear that is blocking you

CB, I keep you in my daily prayers. May God bless you on your journey.

THE 3 Stages of Conversion to Catholicism
from the eyes of GK Chesterson

"In describing the conversion process in The Catholic Church and Conversion, Chesterton said that there are three stages that a convert goes through. In the first stage, the convert imagines himself to be entirely detached or even indifferent but feels that he ought to be fair to the Church of Rome. The convert wishes to do it justice, chiefly because he sees that the Church suffers injustice.

The second stage is:

that in which the convert begins to be conscious not only of the falsehood but the truth and is enormously excited to find that there is far more of it than he would ever have expected. . . . This process, which may be called discovering the Catholic Church, is perhaps the most pleasant and straightforward part of the business, easier than joining the Catholic Church and much easier than trying to live the Catholic life. It is like discovering a new continent full of strange flowers and fantastic animals, which is at once wild and hospitable.

The third stage, according to Chesterton, is perhaps the truest and most terrible because the person is trying not to be converted but has come too near to the truth, which is like a magnet with the powers of attraction and repulsion. Describing this stage, Chesterton says that it is impossible to be just to the Catholic Church because once men cease to pull against it, they feel the tug towards it.

The moment they cease to shout it down they begin to listen to it with pleasure. The moment they try to be fair to it they begin to be fond of it. But when that affection has passed a certain point it begins to take on the tragic and menacing grandeur of a great love affair. The man has exactly the same sense of having committed or compromised himself; of having been in a sense entrapped, even if he is glad to be entrapped. But for a considerable time he is not so much glad as simply terrified.

Converts may also remember the same discovery Chesterton describes with this statement: “Only, when he has entered the Church, he finds that the Church is much larger inside than it is outside.”

You and your family are in my prayers. Let the light of Christ shine through you in every way. When people see the change in you, they will more readily accept your conversion…this includes your parents. God bless.

Contrabass101, the Lord is calling you to pursue His truth and bear faithful witness to those who love you. Thus, he is calling upon you to deny yourself, take up your cross and follow. To be a slave of Christ is the hard way. Remember that He came not for unity, but division. You must love God above everything and everyone on earth:

Luke 12:50-54 “Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”

Call upon Him, and He will strengthen you, as He has already taught you to recognize and seek the truth.

Philippians 4:13 “I can do everything through him who gives me strength”.

Most merciful and loving God, You conceived of Contrabass101 from all eternity as a crucial part of Your Divine plan. Grant him great strength and wisdom as he moves ever closer to Your Heavenly truth, that he may be a light unto his loved ones. Graciously send Your Holy Spirit to teach, guide and fortify him in his struggle. Lord, You know his heart. Mercifully hear Your Blessed Son’s intercession on behalf of Contrabass101, that he may, with great faith and love, embrace the fullness of truth. Reveal Your Divine truth to him and those he loves, for the completion of all righteousness. I ask this through Christ, our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God for ever and ever. Amen.

Christ’s peace be always with you.

Contra, I come from a Lutheran background as well. I will keep you in my prayers.

Praying very hard for your conversion. I hope you learn to love the Catholic faith as much as I do!

Contrabass:

I am praying for you. My family was not up in arms but I am sure it bugged them to an extent. Converting to Catholicism is one of the most beautiful things I have ever done. I am praying for God to bless you and sustain you and to make your conversion a smooth process.
