They have the best movie at Epcot! It shows the festival of lights and the winter carnival. It must me about now. Does anyone know?

And on the lighter side… 😃

You know you’re Canadian when:
Code:
* You're not offended by the term "HOMO MILK"
* You understand the phrase "Could you pass me a serviette." I just spilled my poutine.
* You eat chocolate bars not candy bars.
* You drink POP not SODA
* You know that a mickey and 2-4's mean "party at the camp eh!!!"
* You don't care about the fuss with Cuba, its a cheap place to travel with good cigars and no Americans.
* Pike is a type of fish, not part of a highway
* You drive on a highway, not a freeway
* You have Canadian Tire money in your kitchen drawers
* You know that Casey and Finnigan are not part of a Celtic Musical Group.
* You are excited whenever an American television show mentions Canada. You make a mental note to talk about it at work the next day.
* You know what a tuque is.
* You design your Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.
* You live in a house with no front step but yet the door is one meter from the ground.
* Your local paper covers the national news on 2 pages but requires 6 pages for hockey.
* You know four seasons: winter, still winter, almost winter and construction.
* You understand the Labatt Blue commercials.
* You perk up when you hear the theme from Hockey Night in Canada.
* You are in grade 12 not the 12th grade.
* "EH" is a very important part of your vocabulary.
* You actually get these jokes and forward them to all of your Canadian friends!!!!

Jeff Foxworthy on Ontario:
If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through 36
inches
of ice and sitting there all day hoping that the food will swim by,
you live in Ontario.
If you’re proud that your region makes the national news 96 nights
each year
because Wawa is the coldest spot in the nation, you live in Ontario.
If your local Dairy Queen is closed from September through May, you
live in Ontario.
If you instinctively walk like a penguin for six months out of the
year,you live in Ontario.
If your dad’s suntan stops at a line curving around the middle of his
forehead, you live in Ontario.
If you have worn shorts and a parka at the same time, you live in
Ontario.
If you have had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who
dialed a wrong number, you live in Ontario.
YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRUE Ontarian :
  1. “Vacation” means going South past London for the weekend.
  2. You measure distance in hours.
  3. You know several people who have hit a deer more than once.
  4. You often switch from “heat” to “A/C” in the same day and then back
    again.
  5. You can drive 110 kph through 2 feet of snow during a raging
    blizzard, without flinching
  6. You design your kid’s Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.
  7. Driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled
    with snow.
  8. You know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter and
    road construction.
  9. Your idea of creative landscaping is a statue of a deer next to
    your blue spruce.
  10. Down South to you means London .
  11. Your 1st of July picnic was moved indoors due to frost.
  12. You have more miles on your snow blower than your car.
  13. You find 0 degrees “a little chilly.”
  14. You actually understand these jokes, and you forward them to all
    your
    Ontario friends.

I’m propping up this thread becasue someone from the Water Cooler might want to see this, ok Montie?! 😛

Since I actually have Canadian Tire money in my wallet, I guess I’m really Canadian, eh?

Pinball Clemens says that the American Dream is the Canadian Reality.

By the way, I can’t get Captains Quarters. Is it jammed? Can anyone else get it?

Well… I guess I can say I disagree with Mr. Pinball Clemens then. And whats Captains Quarters?

WhiteDove:
I think socialized medicine is a good thing. No system is perfect, but the American system is grossly unfair and inefficient.
To each his own, however I nearly died while living in Canada under the system of health care delivery there. And it is not FREE. Many Canadians have the wrong idea about health care delivery in the States. Perhaps in your eyes it is unfair, but I think it is a stretch to call it inefficient. We don’t have folks dying while waiting for a bypass or surgery as I almost did while there. And having insurance, I presented my card to the hospital and doctors and they said that the government would pay for it. That is not fair to the citizens of Canada any more than the US paying for illegal aliens here. My husband was sent there on business and he was paid by the Canadian company, but I don’t think Canada should have paid for my care, or should I say the citizens of Canada.

All that said, Canada, at least the parts I saw, is a beautiful country. I met many wonderful people some of whom I still stay in touch with twenty years later. And one other thing, I never could understand why Canadians dislike Americans so much.

Okay Shoshana, I was enjoying this thread unil this. And then WhiteDoves comment. Do we really have to insult America to make Canada look good. 😦

By the way, Victoria is the most beautiful city in the world.

For those who actually dislike Amercans (which is far from all of us!) I think it comes down to envy. It’s kind of like hating the New York Yankees (or Montreal Canadiennes); long term success and power generate envy which inevitibly gets expressed as serious dislike.

Excuse me but the Toronto Maples Leafs would be a much better example.

No, they wouldn’t. They haven’t won a Cup since '67, and the Canadiennes are the winningest franchise in sports.

Besides, as a Canucks fan, I just can’t work up the same degree of loathing for the Leafs. It must be Pat Quinn’s influence.

After the American Revolution, the English were still north of the border. The English, in order to hang on to power, land, and resources manipulated Quebec, the First Nations, and the English colonists. Basically they said to Quebec that unless she cosied up with English, the American puritans would swallow up Catholic Quebec.

The English gave Quebec language, religion, and cultural rights. The English also made treaties with the First Nations and in return they fought alongside the English in the War of 1812. Without the First Nations, the English didn’t have a hope in hek of holding the Americans off.

The English ran the Canadas by means of the Family Compact. They used anti-Americanism to fearmonguer among those over whom they held domain (translate: oppressed).

Family Compact was officially dismantled after Confederation. However everyone who would wield power in Canada has resurrected some form of Family Compact. And thus anti-Americanism persists.

But let’s look at the facts. We are no longer an English colony. We are multicultural. Quebec is no longer Catholic. The First Nations have long since abandonned the idea of trusting the English. And for most of us, anti-Americanism falls on deaf ears. Why? Because America buys 80% of our exports, defends our homeland, and is home to our cousins, uncles, aunts, and so on.

Only the MSM and the most raucous of the most unlearned among us nurtures anti-Americanism anymore.
