One of the Catholic Church’s most senior prelates has said that birth control could “offer a solution” to the impacts of climate change.
Cardinal Peter Turkson, the Pope’s leading adviser on climate issues, told the BBC that the Church had never been against natural family planning.
Speaking in Paris, the cardinal called for a strong agreement that would protect the most vulnerable nations.

I don’t think the Cardinal is welcoming contraception here, but instead is talking about natural family planning.

Oh, they’re going to have a field-day. Unfortunately, the distinctions will be lost. But it’s true-NFP is ecologically far more respectful to both environment and human than artificially pumped hormones. You don’t derange the sex of fish populations with NFP.

We have this modern preoccupation with consuming organic, all natural, antibiotic free and hormone free food yet turn around and think the use artificial hormones in the form of birth control pills is okay.

Why the double standard?

What a poignant example of equivocation!

Cardinal Turkson was at pains to stress that artificial birth control methods such as the contraceptive pill were still beyond the pale as far as the Church was concerned.

“You don’t deal with one good with another evil: the Church wants people to be fed, so let’s do what the Church feels is not right? That is a kind of sophistry that the church would not go for,” he said.

The question of birth control has long been controversial within the Catholic Church.

The good Cardinal was “at pains to stress” the distinction between artificial birth control and natural family planning, yet in the very next sentence the BBC article equivocates between the two by mentioning that “the question of [artificial] birth control has long been controversial within the Catholic Church.”

Give it a week and this news will morph into “Top Vatican Cardinal supports condoms for everyone!”

I forget the book’s title, but someone observed that mores regarding food and sex have exchanged within the last century. It may have been Mary Eberstadt’s Adam and Eve after the Pill.

Tangentially, your observation about food struck me the other day. The preoccupation with eating has almost taken on a religious devotion. I’m not casting aspersions, but it occurred to me that people are looking for Communion.

Neoliberal Progressives are self-loathing atheists and follow the agenda of reducing the population. It’s very sinister that they want to confine this to Western peoples though.

Time to carry out God’s will and go forth and multiply.

The secular benefit is that it will cause liberals to go nuts 👍

I also observed the following:

People are getting a lot more Puritanical about food. More restrictions on what you are or are not allowed to eat. Organic this, gluten free, nut free, fat free, vegan.

Fat people have been harshly judged and if possible, some would like to put a scarlet G on them. The most egregious sin is to be fat. A woman can kill her own child in the womb but if she goes beyond a certain dress size, she is ripe for judgement.

I disagree.

A lot of Westerners criticize third world nations because there are too many people in them. If possible they want less people all over the world.

Fish aren’t prone to ideological ‘derangement’ of sexual patterns of breeding though. One of the problems in Africa is the cultural attitude towards family size and how it relates to status. It’s why polygamy is still a popular concept well beyond its use by date. Once upon a time large families were an antidote to poverty but in a changing world instead of letting nature drive sexual breeding patterns, some cultures have adopted large family-ism as a religious tenet without a predominant natural meaning.

Promoting NFP as not only a good, but also a way of enriching married life between couples is a necessary position for the Church today to counter the idea of ideological breeding.

Watch what Merkel did over the course of the year. She’s doing her bit for Soros

I thought children were a blessing from God? I thought man was created in God’s image and was good?

There’s plenty of space in the world for all of the world’s people.

From World Population Clock: 7.3 billion people

From Wikipedia: Area of Texas = 268,581 square miles

That represents a total of fewer than 27,280 people per square mile (just under that of New York City).

Together, the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C. occupy a combined area of 3,119,884.69 square miles, which is only 1.58% of the total surface area of the earth. The whole world’s people in a city that size would have a population density of fewer than 2,340 people per square mile… or considerably less than that of Bermuda.

Also China, India the US etc. are some of the most prosperous countries in the World

I missed your point. I only meant that hormonal contraceptives in the water have been found to feminize male fish, and surely NFP is better for the environment where that is the case.

Oh sorry. Lol. I thought you were saying that we don’t stop fish breeding by making them periodically abstain or something. :whacky:
