“8 Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part; 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. 11 When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.”
Is this reading saying that we will forget all of our past knowledge, or that our knowledge of the things we know now will be perfected? To me, verse 12 seems to be clear evidence of the latter, but then verse 8 says “if there be knowledge, it will be done away.”
Does this mean all knowledge??
I recently made a forum thread on here about a reading of Isaiah which said, “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind.”
…but it says love never fails…so, will we remember our family and friends who we loved or not? Will the love for others that we had on earth be carried on to the next life?
This whole issue of forgetting everything in heaven has been weighing heavily on my mind lately. I mean, I suppose I could forget the bad things…but then again, wouldn’t it be nice to know why some of those things happened? My mom always told me “We won’t know until we get to Heaven.” The idea of experiencing total amnesia in heaven is a depressing thought. I mean, having friends on earth and experiencing all these things just to completely forget them in the next life?
Sighhhh Well…any thoughts?
Thanks in advance
