Perhaps it is just me, but unfortunately I don’t see Catholic bishops accessing the media to contribute their voice of reason to these discussions.

Their absence is not going unnoticed.

This news report does not justify shutting down a $22 trillion economy and stripping people of their constitutional rights. These mass burials are done to take care of people who had no funeral plans and no family to take care of such arrangements. The city is just doing its job.

Here is a quote from another news report:
The city’s new storage policy has contributed significantly to these increased burials. The policy shortens the amount of time the medical examiner’s office can keep an unclaimed body in storage to 14 days. The policy was changed to alleviate some of the pandemic’s increased pressure on the city’s medical system.

The article is from USA Today. The title is: Fact check: NYC is not planning to use trenches in parks as burial grounds
I would post the link but the forum is not allowing me to post links for some reason.

It’s 14 days because morgues are filled and the dead are being stored in freezer trucks and funeral homes are at capacity.

That’s because thousands of extra new yorkers are dead due to coronavirus.

Those pine boxes have dead human beings in them. Parents, children, aunts, uncles, cousins etc. Without social distancing it can happen where you live too.

I hope it doesn’t.

Those old Fourth Internationalists at Spiked haven’t lost their thirst for permanent revolution, it’s almost rather sweet.

The “Spartists” who remain at Spiked no longer seek a revolution I suspect. The real revolution was carrying on in the Paris suburbs last night!

" Anti-lockdown riots break out in Paris amid anger at police ‘heavy-handed’ treatment of minorities after Macron extends social distancing to fight COVID-19 until May 11"

That’s what they’d like everybody to think 😆, all these alt-rightists nowadays cuddling up to some old Trots, I do find amusing.

Rioting in the banlieues, whatever next?

I really doubt they’re still Trotskyists in any sense. There’s a joke that all Trotskyists eventually become neocons, and what happened with Spiked is presumably a variation of that. The shift from ‘Living Marxism’ began after the fall of the USSR, so I imagine that was the turning point for them, as it was for a lot of Trots (perhaps counterintuitively, as Trotsky expected the USSR would become capitalist).

I did say ‘old Trots’ 😀

I remember the ‘Living Marxism’ era and always got the impression that it was a collective of the congenitally restless.

While we’re on lockdown, I’ve been treating myself to histories/biographies of the Spanish Civil War and its aftermath and whenever the ‘purge’ of the POUM comes up (deep conspiracy theory territory on the part of the PCE about the POUM being in bed with the Falange), the Spike tendency of today comes to mind.

Deaths in America nearly doubled in the last week.
Sounds like a Conspiracy.

They use the Mayor of Amity says it’s safe to swim model.
They researched it. Amity means friendship

Macron seems to have had serious domestic rebellion ever since he beat Marine Le Pen.

Not a good advertisement for the ‘diversity is our strength’ mantra nor for confidence in the new EU emperor in waiting, after Merkel is pushed out.

Tribalism, ethnic nationalism and fascism always seem to unite men based upon worst impulses. It is our fallen nature I suppose

Fascism is a type of socialism. It is the horrors of socialism that clearly have brought out the worst impulses in man. Apart from National socialism, international socialism has always tried to portray nationalism as the problem that it claims to solve. I think this is clearly incorrect yet unites man to follow the horrors of socialism time after time, tricked into thinking they are progressing human nature in some universalist project.

Only to find out time after time that this project brings untold evil on the world because it does not recognize the true nature of man nor God.

The reactionary and radical right (whether or not in its Fascist version) have no monopoly on worst impulses, perhaps it’s more a question of political systems where ends justify means producing situations where means tend to justify their end.

When I read what you type, we all know it as modern propaganda.
It reminds my of poor Winston unable to avoid the torment whether he saw 4 or 5 fingers.
The language accomodates seperate words for a simple reason. To more precisely identify two different things. Socialism and fascism is not the same thing. And having socialistic policy in a Constitutional Republic like ours is night and day different.
It is authoritarianism that is evil.
You speak of horrors of socialism but it is precisely the infusion of socialistic policy that created America’s greatness as a society. We shed policy leading to events like the Ludlow massacre. That replaced Caveat emptor with Caveat Venditor,
Warrantee replaced," you buys your ticket and you takes your chances." You tout nationalism. Nationalism is our primitive state. A truth that is cyclically forgotten and relearned the hard way.
Last time, with tens of millions dead and the world levelled, those with horrors of nationalism fresh on their minds met as a United Nations body at the Bretton Woods Conference. .
Men like John Maynard Keynes, HD WHITE, and others, began developing post war economic theory. Theory to secure one result. No 3rd WORLD WAR.
And they were successful.
Certainly all economic systems organize winners and losers to an extent. WW3 in a nuclear age was recognised as a much worse price to pay.
This move to consolidate socialism and fascism while touting nationalism is a threat to the Bretton Wood order. And of course the disorder of a nuclear solution.
When you say TRICKED, the actual trick is a rewrite of how and why we got here.
Absolutely conditioned upon the necessity of ignorance of our history. And the ability of ignorance to serve the engine of history repeating itself.

Reactionary and radically extreme anything is as you say. We agree. And ends justifies the means is their ethos.
