Once again, we are not Sola Scriptura protestants. The scriptures are but a part (an integeral part) of the tradition of the Church.I know I’m repeating myself. However, two of the three appear consistent with Scripture, in my opinion. Please explain to me how self-mortification is consistent with what Scripture teaches. Where are the examples of self-mortification in the New Testament? Or the Old Testament? Do we test based on what Mother Teresa did, or on Scripture?

We base much on the lives and teachings of the Saints. Our greatest philosophical and theological ideas, for example, come from Sts. Augustine and Thomas Aquinas.
