My comment was for women in general, not directed at anyone in particular. And the gist of my comment can apply to men wanting cosmetic surgery for reasons of vanity as well.

If a woman gets those stupid bean bags put into her chest she will not magically gain self-esteem. She will just be a woman with low self-esteem with large breasts. She will not attract a man worthy of her. She will attract the same type of loser guys she likely attracted before, only better-looking, or with more money, or with more charm, or a member of a band, etc. She needs to work on self-respect, then the man she has been waiting for will come along.

It’s cool. I see where you’re coming from.

I guess you ladies can do what you want, but I would much rather see you spend the money on a therapist to get at the root of the problem which is your insecurity. And this is coming from a guy who has a big thing for big…um…yeah 😊 😃
Wanting to improve a feature through plastic surgery doesn’t make someone in need of a therapist!

LOL:D

You admit that men like yourself like big breasts, and then tell women that they are in need of a therapist if their insecure enough to think they need those kind of curves to get male attention:rolleyes:

On a more serious note…

While I do think that women are pushed too hard to look beautiful in our society, the fact remains that women have more or less* always* been judged heavily based on their appearance.

I don’t think every woman should feel compelled to have big boobs, but I think its perfectly understandable if women with malformed, maimed, or simply very small breasts have some work done to fit in (and most likely to get some male attention).
I think when it comes to cosmetic surgery (and whether it would be good or bad thing) the individual circumstances matter a great deal.

There are men who prefer flat-chested women. But more to the point I’d rather be with a flat-chested woman who doesn’t need me to feel good about herself than a woman with big breasts who is all needy. If marriage turns out to be my vocation and I meet a woman who is perfect for me, the size of her chest will not be a factor.

Therapist or not, I have made my point (the word “therapist” really shouldn’t make you go , btw)
It wasn’t the word “therapist” that made me go  by the way.

It was the claim you made.

Absolutely. 👍

After all, we get braces to “fix” our “imperfect” teeth, don’t we? Usually for no reason other than purely cosmetic. Should people need to go through therapy for getting braces? Why the double standard??

Sorry, my mistake.

I already conceded the point about therapy in post number 144.

Crooked teeth are a deformity. A flat chest is not a deformity. We all come in different shapes and sizes. Fixing a deformity is about genuinely and legitimately trying to increase one’s level of self-respect and dignity. Getting breast implants or a nose job when a flat chest or big noses are normal human features is insecurity.

I can’t tell anyone what to do, but be happy with what God gave you is my advice. Your new breasts or nose will not transform how you feel about yourself, only God and the desire to change does. And as far as other people are concerned, the people who matter don’t mind, and the people who mind don’t matter.

Probably BECAUSE women are judged more based on their appearance.
Cosmetic surgery could be considered cheating or at least trying to get an unfair advantage over other women.

How about a man who wants to get rid of disfiguring scars?
Or a woman who wants to use cosmetic surgery to restore the breast she lost to breast cancer?
Or a man who wants to fix his webbed feet so people don’t treat him like a freak?

That’s easy to say if you have never been a social outcast.

God gave some people medical conditions that will kill them (if left untreated).
Should they simply be happy and let nature take its course?

Lots women don’t feel confident without big boobs, or so it would seem. The same applies to having a perfect body. Look at magazines catered to women. Lots of them are about sex and having the perfect body. That’s probably why so many celebrity women get them. Society makes it seem like a woman would be more desirable with big boobs. At least most men would admit that they like them. I think its sad that a man would deny to be with a girl over her breast size, but there are people out there who are that vain.

I think we should keep breast implant operations for those who would need it, for example a woman who had breast cancer that got them removed. It would only seem fair for her to get a cosmetic procedure to feel normal again. The same could be said for others who want plastic surgery who became disfigured from a fire or disease, ect.

Crooked teeth are NOT a “deformity.” A deformity is a cleft palate or a crooked leg.

Teeth that aren’t perfectly aligned are in fact the general norm. Very few people have naturally perfectly aligned teeth. My teeth definitely weren’t awful by any means, but my parents still put me on braces for 2 years at the age of 12 in order to make them just perfect. This is often the case for most people.

But either way, whatever you want to call it, getting braces is done usually purely for cosmetic purposes.

Yup, I think society just hates women.

Shunned if they aren’t pretty enough, and shunned for getting cosmetic work done. 🤷

Seriously, lay off and let us be!

Are disfiguring scars normal human features? Or webbed feet?

I will admit that the case of a woman who wants to restore her lost breasts is more difficult, though. I would say she has been disfigured relative to what she used to look like and would be perfectly justified in getting implants to restore a sense of self.
That’s easy to say if you have never been a social outcast.
How many flat-chested women are social outcasts? How about people with big (but not abnormally big) noses?

I am talking about being happy with the NORMAL HUMAN FEATURES that God gave you. That is entirely different from some deadly medical condition.

I would still put crooked teeth in the same category as a cleft palate or crooked leg even though it is more common. If it is technically not a “deformity,” fine, but I wouldn’t put it in the range of “normal” along with flat chests and big noses (yes, I am aware that I keep bringing up flat chests and big noses :o).

So I hate women now? I thought I was clear that men who used cosmetic surgery in the same way were being equally self-conscious.

I think it’s a bit unfair to assume that if a man or woman has plastic surgery, then he or she must be insecure. I’ve never had any plastic surgery (I did have braces), and I’ve still always hated this reasoning. Sometimes perfectly secure happy people just want to make something be a little more to their liking. If one has the time, the means, and is willing to take the risk, then why not allow them to go about their choice without judgment? There are also varying degrees in the search for cosmetic perfection. For example, suppose that someone wants to get an oddly shaped body part made to look more normal according to the loose societal ideal. I really have no problem with that. However, if a man or woman repeatedly tries to have regular looking features turned into something perfect, then perhaps one could make a case for some underlying psychological issues. That’s still between the patients, families, and doctors to decide. But I really don’t think that anyone should be chastised for wanting to perfect a deformity or strange feature (or even something that they simply think is too abnormal), which can be done through plastic surgery. Too often people hear “plastic surgery” and think of fake, insecure people, and I honestly don’t think that should be the case. The intelligent, bookish girl at your local cafe could have had some work done. You never know.
