Costa Rican Woman Who Elevated the Pope to Sainthood: "Prayer to John Paul II Saved Me."

The miraculous healing in 20l1 of a Costa Rican woman from incurable bleeding in her brain has cleared the way for the C\canonization of Pope John Paul II. The doctors had told her that she had no hope, that she was going to die. I was scared and “I was terribly frightened of leaving my children,” she said. Then she and her husband prayed to the Pope “because God has always been next to him.” Then one morning when she woke up she heard a voice saying “Get up, do not be afraid.” The people in her hometown were shocked, because she was cured. Her neurosurgeon doctor said she could only been cured by divine intervention. Costa Rica is a small country in Central America with 4 1/2 million people.

Hello… I am glad that The Spirit of Pope John Paul II can make the difference, bringing the vehicle of Inner Healing and Faith to made a change of cure. Bringing about a Miracle or many Miracles in this day and age. Bravo to a New Cannonized Saint, so worth while, not only in the healing of the infirmed, but also for The World :crossrc:

You know, I’m glad to see that the Church is elevating to “official” sainthood (recognition of what already*** IS*** on earth) two Popes who I have experienced in my lifetime.

I won’t call this a complaint … but I think that Fr. Junipero Serra should be made a saint
beforehand or at least at the same time.

In a “feats of strength” contest he compares favorably with either or both of our dear Popes, and would even give JPII a good run for his money in an endured hardships examination.

This “miracles” thing … is THAT it? Is THAT what is holding up the movement of Blessed Junipero to being St. Junipero?

If I might weigh in on that subject, I would like to give my top 10 reasons why Serra should be elevated to officialdom at the same time as John XXIII and Pope John Paul II (without calling the latter two “Johnnie come latelies” or any such snarky thing). 😃

  1. Converted entire tribes of Californian natives to the faith, where they largely remained.
  2. Personally founded the chain of missions which led to the settlement of California (previously a sparsely populated area).
  3. Named said missions after Angels and Saints.
  4. Which led to the major cities of the state being so named as well.
  5. Giving witness for the faith even today (despite the bad reputations some cities now have).
  6. Left his home in Mallorca (island off of Spain) to preach the Gospel … never to return.
  7. Elevated the knowledge and living standards of the indigenous people he served by a
    quantum leap in terms of farming, trade,irrigation, hunting, education, health and hospitalization, and civilized law.
  8. Fought prejudice and advocated with the tribesmen when Spanish soldiers misbehaved.
  9. Endured attacks upon the missions by hostile tribes (militarily, and lost some friars to martyrdom) and Spanish rivals (politically).
    10 Did not rest at ease in any of the comfortable missions, but pressed on (on a bad foot) to complete a breathtaking chain of missions that led most of the way up the West Coast.
It is a head scratcher to me that none of the above is considered a “miracle” enough.



Pope John Paul II seemed to elevate many saints who seem quite obscure by comparison to sainthood. I know this sounds like crabbing … and I don’t doubt that the saints so elevated were in heaven already. But hey! Is it the geography? If Serra had walked about Europe’s fringes and build one tenth of what he did - would he be a saint already?

The Western US has no saint. Even Junipero would be considered technically Spanish I suppose and not an “American saint” were we to get PC or ethnic about things. But when the oldest freestanding structure in California is Serra’s Chapel (cornerstone laid in 1776 !) in San Juan Capistrano – maybe the Church should get smart and take advantage of a
powerful witness in a place where it’s needed (if the sheer justice of the thing somehow escapes it).

In fact it would be a good idea to elevate Blessed Fulton Sheen at the same time if possible. Maybe coordinate it with Pope Francis’ first US visit!

At least a posting of the status of their cases ought to be available (I haven’t looked yet 😊 😃 ) to remind those looking for a miracle to let Junipero or Fulton have a go at it.

This is a nice story, and I am happy for Pope John Paul II. He certainly had crosses to bear in seeing his homeland torn by war and enduring religious persecutions under the Nazis and Communists. His extensive travels took a toll on him over the years and looked like a holy offering of himself toward the end. Serra, his donkey train and chronically ailing foot are his match though. First class on a mule train has no air conditioning. Fr. Junipero was probably cheered from time to time … smaller crowds though I think. 😉

In regards to “Blessed Fr. Serra”… this would be interesting if Francis I upgrades his status to Sainthood in the near future. My cousin ancestors “Jose Dominguez and Pablo A. Cota” were the “Solaldo Escortos” to Fr. Serra, advising and protecting him when he was establishing The Missions of California in the 1700’s.
Jose Dominguez’s nephew Manuel would inheirate “Rancho San Pedro” from his Uncle and marry Maria Gracia Cota-Dominguez, GrandNeice of Soldaldo Rogue Cota, brother of Pablo A. Cota.
Both Pablo and Roque were “Escorto Soldaldos” for The Founding Families of Los Angeles" in 1781. Pablo would marry Maria Rosa Lugo. “The Lugo Family” would later donate their manson to The Catholic Church, thus forming “St. Vincent College”, which would be incorporated into The Loyola-Marymount University System. Origin of “The Cota Families” can be traced to The Lombardy Reagion of what is part of Northern Italy, where the present Pope’s Family “The Bergoglio Families” reside. The family resemblances are just uncanny!

Is this the second miracle that JP II interceded for?

I remember reading that this new miracle would “amaze the world” and although I’m happy for this Costa Rican woman, this doesn’t sound like something that would amaze people on a large scale. Is there another miracle I’m missing?
 
Hello Holy Ghost… I would think that “The Miracles” acredited to JPII are in my opinion the least of many miracles acredited to him. In his lifetime (and Beyond), he was an incredible person… and Pope too?

For one… I personally acredit JPII for embracing “Divine Mercy” and assisting on the eventual cannonization of St. Faustina of Poland, that help end “The Cold War”. As you may or may not know… according to Christian Tradition, “A Private Revelation” are not really grounds for a candidate to be Cannonized (unless it was something extraordinary). Sister Faustina’s Divine Apparition of “The Christ” changed from “A Private Revelation”, to “A Witnessed Revelation” many years later. The question still has not been answered by The Church officially, when did this change? Did JPII have a “A Private Revelation of The Christ”… verifying Sister Faustina’s and/or was it by someone else???
The only factoid I have been able to find and support, is “The Bronx Apparition of 1962”, where “Two Young Boys” experienced and saw “An Apparition of The Christ”, reporting it, and was verified to have been connected with St. Faustina of Poland. This fact may have been the galvizing force that also brought the eventual prophesy of Divine Mercy, a Polish Pontiff, sitting on The Papel Throne of The Church, which would become Pope John Paul II.

What also supports my information, is the fact that, when JPII “Beatified” Sister Faustina, and visited her shrine in Poland, JPII declared her “An Apostolate of The Christ”! To be declared an Apostolate or an Apostle of Christ, it would have to be “Witnessed”!
This is based and verified in The New Testament, when Saul (St. Paul) was on a road, and an “Apparition of The Christ” appeared to him. At first, that would be “A Private Revelation”, as he never ever saw Jesus in The Flesh. When he went to Rome seeking St. Peter, to report his “Private Revelation”, St. Peter, who once knew Jesus in The Flesh and as The Christ, asked Saul (St. Paul) “What did he look like?” Saul reported to St. Peter, what he experienced and saw. St. Peter was satisfied with Saul’s report or “Witnessing”… thus making it “A Witnessed Revelation” and declaring him “An Apostle of The Christ” in which he changed his name from Saul to Paul, as the beloved Saint as we know today!

So… If the report of “The Bronx Apparition of 1962” by “The Two Young Boys” is correct and/or Pope John Paul II having “A Witnessed Revelation”, then In my opinion, it is even more fitting for JPII to be cannonized under these circumstances included. Now… the other question: "What about “The Two Young Boys”, that are un-offically known by “The Vatican”? According to Christian Tradition… they are “Witnesses”, and would be “Apostles of The Christ”, be them recognized by The Church or not! Without their “Witnessing Testamony”, all would be a mute point.:highprayer:
