It happens to me sometimes. It’s pretty strong, and I’m not used to wine. I feel embarrassed, and people stare at me. Anyone else do this?

I always thought that communion wine was about the mildest wine one could get.
😆

It depends on the priest–and often what was donated.

The strongest communion wine I ever ventured to try was one made by none other than cloisterd nuns. Father watered it down TREMENDOUSLY but that stuff was STRONG.

You need only take a tiny sip of the Precious Blood. Don’t take a mouthful – just a tiny sip, and you won’t cough.

I’m not sure that works for everyone. I’ve felt like sputtering with some strong wines when I barely touched it to my lips.

Some people are just more sensitive to the alcohol content, especially those who drink nothing else at any times.

Not true. I always only sip. Perhaps my asthma predisposes me. That, and Im not used to drinking.

You need take absolutely none at all, if you receive the host.

You are not required to receive both species. Why not just receive the host?

How did he do that?
🤨 …with water.

When he mixed the wine with water during consecration. There’s no “formula”. Some priests do a drop, some add more.

Well I learned something new. I love my Church. I did not know where the
wine came from. Now I do. Thank you, I did know the wine was not
obligatory. I LIKE taking the wine, normally. When it burns going down, it
makes me feel more fully, the life that just entered my body.

Nuns like to have fun, too, it seems.

Well, it is possible that if too much water is added, the wine can become invalid matter for consecration.

Only if they can no longer be described as wine. That’d take a whole TON of water in this case.

You’re not the Lone Ranger; I also have an urge to cough after receiving the Cup. So did my father-in-law, and so do others in our parish. The physical characteristics of wine do that to some people; I think it has something to do with having a sensitive vagus nerve. Think nothing of it, regardless of what other people are doing.

Nope never, because I’ve never received wine at Mass, I’ve received Jesus Christ.

When I take communion wine I try to take as small a sip as I can out of fear that taking too much will cause the cup to run out.

Thank you Dave xx. Careful with that halo Adam, that you dont fly too low 😉
