Could Islam possibly be called a denomination of Christianity?

Where I was at that point in my life, they were just happy I found something, anything other than the trouble I was getting in. I used to be a straight gang banger dope dealer when I found Islam. In Islam, I found a written program for how to live with the 5 pillars, 1 god, pray,give charity, fast for Rahmadan, and pilgrimage. In that order. It simplified my relationship with God and I was very satisfied with the simplicity (1 God no trinity, no mystery). Certain things in Islam ended up not sitting right with me (some things about it being ok to kill in certain situations, when thou shall not kill.) I got a girlfriend who was Christian as it was ok to marry a non-muslim if you are a man. I started reading in the Quran about Jesus and everywhere I read it was calling Jesus the Christ and I didn’t see any conflict with what the bible said about Jesus (miracles Virgin Mary etc). So I started reding the Bible.

At that time I had a miracle happen to me. I had been diagnosed with Khron’s disease
and I was in unbearable pain. I was in the corner on the floor begging Allah to give me relief and I thought I was being punished for studing Jesus so much. It just got worse until I called on the name of Jesus and he healed my disease. I have no trace of Khron’s disease ever since then. I came to be a Christian soon after and not I’m joining RCIA as the more I study, the more I trace things back to the beginning of all churches, the Catholic Church. I still have some dogma issues but I decided that’s what RCIA is for.

Sorry, didn’t mean to be so long winded but I wanted to witness as an ex Muslim who was given a miracle by Jesus when I literally called his name in one of the most painful times of my life. All I said was “Jesus, if you can hear me, please help me.” and he did

Like I said, never ran into that. I think it would also be presumptuous for a different religion to state that of another religion. The Jews did not except Jesus as the Messiah because he did not come to be an Earthly king which they believe the Messiah to be. So how would that change for Islam to say that He was?

Bingo! They are a cult. Any group that denies the divinity of Christ or the Trinity is not Christian. Today due to political correctness we no longer state this that loudly but it is a fact the two of the very basic Christian beliefs are the divinity of Christ and the Trinity.

This also means that Morons are not Christians.

When you dig deeper, groups that lack these two basic beliefs also hold to other non-Christian ideas.

Of all the criteria that could be used to qualify someone as not Christian, I believe the Trinity is the thinnest ice. Next would be the definition of “Divinity”. I was raised in the JW faith, and you can call them many things, but they are sincere, they walk the walk, and they earnestly believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

In searching the web definitions of “Christian” I found no reference to the requirement to believe in the Trinity. The top three were:

1. relating to or characteristic of Christianity; “Christian rites”
2. a religious person who believes Jesus is the Christ and who is a member of a Christian denomination
3. following the teachings or manifesting the qualities or spirit of Jesus Christ

Grr… it has nothing to do with “political correctness”. It’s about being accurate and honest. Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons base their religion on the figure of Jesus of Nazareth, hence they are Christians, regardless of how absurd and blasphemous their Christianity may be.

And while they certainly “believe” in Christ, Muslims do not base their religion around Him, therefore they are not Christians.

So, by your definition, JWs, LDS and Oneness Pentecostals (and other Uniterian Churches) (and, as I have recently read here in CAF, SDAs) are not Christians?

By most conventional definitions, bingo. Even Protestants who have never heard of the Nicene Creed hew to it, and that Creed is a pretty useful means of defining “Christian” for most workaday purposes. Any religion or sect that contradicts it can be safely considered to have passed outside the boundaries of even “mere” Christianity, and to qualify as a cult or a separate religion altogether.

This is an interesting question that i came across and i was hoping i could get a Muslim to answer for me

Though they obviously do not claim to be Christian it is in interesting concept. They are believers of the God of Abraham (but not Jewish, like Christians); They believe that Jesus is the Messiah (like Christians but not like the Jews); They believe in their own Holy Book written by their Prophet as instructed by God (like Mormons?); they do not believe in the Trinity, thus do not believe in the divinity of Jesus (like Jehovah’s Witness?). It is an interesting thought. I wonder what any Muslims have to say about this.

No, Islam is not a part of Christianity. They believe in the wrong Jesus and the wrong God, IMO, of course.

Exactly Dokimas. They have a completely differnt view of Jesus. They dont believe He is God the son. They dont believe He was crucified, It is not the Jesus taught about in the bible, or 2000 years of Church history, by both Catholics or Protestants. Peace

Thanks for your reply. I apologize for not staying closer to the OP. I am new to this forum, have not fully learned your rules, and thought the previous post deserved an answer. Will watch it in the future…
