Jack Chick is NOT dead!
I don’t believe he is dead, either. It’s a hoax and it is a cruel joke to play on anyone. The theory behind his death is so bizarre that it can’t be true.

I found it by googling “Jack Chick death” and it popped up.

It isn’t nice to do things like that. It just isn’t nice.

I just read it. I don’t know most of the names mentioned but it sounded unrealisted and stupid. Jack Chick is about 60 years old, anyway. Baptist.

Even when I was a Pentecostal Christian with deep misgivings about the Catholic Church I could see that Mr. Chick’s rantings against Catholicism were nothing more than hatred disguised as evangelical outreach. Anyone who could possibly buy into such stuff hasn’t a notion what true Catholicism is, has no understanding of real history, and must have some need to be confirmed in their own bigotry.
When I was a methodist I too knew he was just angry and gagging for a pop at catholicism.

I yahoo -ed it and he has showed up in wikipedia…Seems he was a real person with a shadowy past…Seems He has passed on…
According to the link I provided (that is a hoax) Rivera was a double-agent working for the Jesuits and reporting directly to the “Black Pope.” I’ve never run across the term “Black Pope” and I find it personally insulting, but anyway. Rivera, dead or alive, is being held for questioning re Mr. Chick’s murder.

If Rivera has passed on, the police probably aren’t having much luck getting him to answer their questions.

Do you think that they were insinuating that the CC is racist by saying “Black Pope” as if to say that there will not be one?

According to something I read on Catholic Answers, “Black Pope” is a Jesuit in-joke to refer to the head of the order, since he dresses in black. Some Protestants (Chick) believe he’s some shadowy figure who secretly controls the Catholic Church.

Although I’ve never done any further research beyond what I happened to read here, it actually makes sense (unlike what Chick says).

Ahh, okay. But who wrote about his death d’you think?

I’m starting this thread because I’ve been on a thread where Jack Chick and his tracts have been discussed by several forum members. It seems so important and so emotional a topic that I thought it deserved its own thread.

What I am asking is:

IS JACK CHICK RIGHT??

For anyone who does not know, Jack Chick is the writer of a large number of small pamphlets or tracts which seem to attack the Catholic Church, and also other faiths. I don’t know what church Jack Chick belongs to, or even if he is still alive. The tracts are easily accessible by googling “Jack Chick.” I don’t want to post any links at this time because I don’t want to pick out one tract in particular.

Is Jack Chick right in what he states about the Catholic Church (and other churches)?

Is it at all possible that he is right?
NO, The only thing Jack may be right about is that he may end up in HELL with all do resect

Caramel, where do you keep getting this stuff? Jack Chick is not dead.

And the Black Pope is a nickname for the Superior General of the Jesuit Order (albeit a disrespectful one), because his outfit is all black.

Check out the link in post #37. I know it’s a hoax. I found it by googling “Jack Chick death” in order to find out if he had died and up popped this fake obituary. I know it’s just a hoax. It’s actually kind of funny and kind of creepy at the same time. It states that he was murdered by the Jesuits (which explains the “Black Pope” term - I thought it must be about the real Pope). It is one weird website. I can’t imagine who would write something like that. I tried to verify it and I couldn’t. It’s a hoax.

He is a real person, however his claims have been called into question, again even by non-Catholics.
Found the Wikipedia entry - looks like Rivera was nothing but a fraud who just let Chick use his name so that it looked like his lies had some sort of “source.”

As someone once said…a lie has to be supported by another lie. 😉

I like the bit where it describes a group of Catholics finding his grave and praying over it. Clearly the acts of an evil organization bent on global domination.

You mean like how they founded Naziism, which then went on to persecute and kill Catholic priests? Or the Ku Klux Klan, which hates Catholics?

He’s 85 or 86 now.
He was a nice kid in rural California in the 1920’s and 1930’s, but used foul language and didn’t pay attention in class. Instead he drew early 20th Century military vehicles all day.
After a tour of duty in Okinawa, he married the daughter of a Baptist preacher and listened to a radio preacher with them and converted and decided to try to find a way to serve God. All he knew how to do was draw, in a vintage-cartoon, rough style. He saw cartoon tracts from a church up the street and then learned about the many psychological tricks the Communists used in China int heir propaganda comic books. He decided to make Christian tracts using Communist-inspired propaganda techniques. In the late 50’s through early '70’s all he wrote about was getting saved and praying more and living a decent life. But in 1970 or 1972 Alberto came to his door and used some manipulations of his own to end up (IIRC) living there and bending Chick’s ear with his tale of narrow escape from the Vatican agents. Meanwhile, Chick had hired an artist to improve the look of the tracts and to start an action-comic series. Alberto persuaded them to publish his stories as facts. Soon, another mysterious man, John Todd, came in with his own conspiracy story, and then Rebecca Brown and Elaine, and then Bill Schnoebelein, who at least had a half-true story but whose reputation everywhere he had ever gone would have turned off most publishing companies. Today, Chick Publications is a huge business. Chick himself is an Independent Baptist, mid-trib and influenced deeply by his friends. He’s a recluse.
When I was a methodist I too knew he was just angry and gagging for a pop at catholicism.
I doubt it. He wrote tracts for ten or fifteen years before making a single anti-Catholic one, after all, and he keeps returning to a theme of “Jesus loves you, please be saved”, which is as far from angry as possible, so I think the paranoia is a side-issue for him. It certainly isn’t where the money is, either. Most people who use his materials use the general “getting saved” ones because they attract attention and might get someone saved, and then start getting promotional copies of the weird and paranoid stuff and gradually get either half-convinced of the theory or disturbed by it and stop buying the tracts. He made a movie recently, which I heard didn’t mention the Catholic Church or any other targets of the conspiracy theories.
