He’s 85 or 86 now.
He was a nice kid in rural California in the 1920’s and 1930’s, but used foul language and didn’t pay attention in class. Instead he drew early 20th Century military vehicles all day.
After a tour of duty in Okinawa, he married the daughter of a Baptist preacher and listened to a radio preacher with them and converted and decided to try to find a way to serve God. All he knew how to do was draw, in a vintage-cartoon, rough style. He saw cartoon tracts from a church up the street and then learned about the many psychological tricks the Communists used in China int heir propaganda comic books. He decided to make Christian tracts using Communist-inspired propaganda techniques. In the late 50’s through early '70’s all he wrote about was getting saved and praying more and living a decent life. But in 1970 or 1972 Alberto came to his door and used some manipulations of his own to end up (IIRC) living there and bending Chick’s ear with his tale of narrow escape from the Vatican agents. Meanwhile, Chick had hired an artist to improve the look of the tracts and to start an action-comic series. Alberto persuaded them to publish his stories as facts. Soon, another mysterious man, John Todd, came in with his own conspiracy story, and then Rebecca Brown and Elaine, and then Bill Schnoebelein, who at least had a half-true story but whose reputation everywhere he had ever gone would have turned off most publishing companies. Today, Chick Publications is a huge business. Chick himself is an Independent Baptist, mid-trib and influenced deeply by his friends. He’s a recluse.

I’ve read his biography on what I think is the real “Jack Chick” website and it agrees with what you have stated here.

Do you think he was duped by people who had other agendas (anti-Catholicism among them)??
 
Maybe he was right about Wescott and Hort being closet Catholics trained by Jesuits. In fact, I think I saw a Jesuit tapping my phone line…

I don’t want to post this as a reply to anyone but when I was googling some of the Jack Chick “parodies” I found foul language and several ads which IMO were pornographic. I didn’t see any foul language or pornography on Jack Chick’s website.

This makes me wonder about some people’s obvious hatred of a human being and if that hatred also extends to Christians.

Let me explain further. I find that some people who make “fun” of Jack Chick are doing so in an inappropriate way. I think that the same people who laugh inappropriately at Jack Chick’s messages about Catholicism (and other Christian faiths) also laugh at Catholicism (and other Christian faiths). I think that these people are angry at everyone and will take any opportunity to mock anyone who isn’t exactly like them (and that would include everyone in this forum).

There are some parodies of Jack Chick which are fine - someone sent me one once and it was funny (the MST3K Jack Chick parody). But some of these other parodies are just going too far and I didn’t find them funny at all.

There is just so much hatred.

You got it Sis and it stems from the god of this world hatred for christianity…That’s why it’ s so important that we are to be fragrance of Christ…Some of us to be honest don’t smell the best…With God’s kingdom the more flesh that dies the better we smell…Remember regardless of what church we belong to our goal is to reflect His image…His word we hide in our heart…Lord give us the grace to allow Your word to change us.

We’ll here’s the thing…Scripture tell us we are to season our words with grace…To esteem others above us…To bless and not to curse…I could go one but you get the message…l learned early in my walk, that if I don’t have a good comment for someone , best not to say a thing…I think about giving account for my words and deeds…peace to you…k

Best advice: If you don’t have a way to be constructive or give edification in your comment , pray for them…God knows how to fix “his kids”

I didn’t say anything evil about Jack Chick. I did use sarcasm as in he could be right about Wescott and Hort and that I see Jesuits everywhere? Was that bad?

For anyone who does not know, Jack Chick is the writer of a large number of small pamphlets or tracts which seem to attack the Catholic Church, and also other faiths. I don’t know what church Jack Chick belongs to, or even if he is still alive. The tracts are easily accessible by googling “Jack Chick.” I don’t want to post any links at this time because I don’t want to pick out one tract in particular.

Is Jack Chick right in what he states about the Catholic Church (and other churches)?

He mixes fact with fiction and fantasy, to the point where it is impossible to tell where the facts end and the fantasies begin.

If you want information about what the Church teaches, look in the Catechism. If you want to know what scandals the Church has been involved with, surely the regular daily newspapers are sufficient - there is no need to go looking for more stuff elsewhere.

Yes, I’m being funny. Before I returned to the Catholic Church I was for many years a baptist who bought many things that Chick said because I just wasn’t educated enough. However, Chick has a recurring theme. The dark KGB, CIA, GRU, Mossad, types of the Catholic Church are the Jesuits. They are to blame for just about everything. I think he even speculated once that the Jesuits have a “Black Pope” who was even more powerful than the actual Pope. According to him they know they are Heretics and want nothing more to destroy Christ in a clandestine fashion even to the point of being “married to a nun” as a cover for being regular Americans and they have infiltrated every level of Government and keep tabs on all real believers in Christ. So, yes I’m being Factious. And in Chickian fashion I’ll probably end up calling everyone a Jesuit to include some Jesuits. By the way Jesuits are the Society of Jesus started by a Spaniard who wanted to emphasise education and knowledge of scripture to further the faith. They have been at odds with the Pope at times and have come close to being disolved by papal decree. This never occured. They are a major missionary force to the Americas and the Orient. They’ve established many universities.

Thanks for filling me in…I found a good tract for me that works…He’ll give account as you or I…I just stick to focusing on me and let Him take care of the rest…I don’t comment on Hagin or Hinn , Joe Catholic or John Orthodox…BTW, that is pretty cool what I bolded…peace to you…Kim

The sad thing about Jack Chick is that he is a very talented man, and could accomplish a lot of good through his talent. Some of his tracts, as others have pointed out, really are quite good. Unfortuantely, he uses his talents for evil, libelling the Catholic Church, using some two-bit charlatan as his “inside source.” I am skeptical of the claim that he was simply just duped by Rivera - the claims he attributes to Rivera are so incredible and bizarre that anyone who would accept them without question has to be either (a) rabidly anti-Catholic to begin with; (b) certifiably insane; or (c) both of the above.

Even in his tract about the Jehovah’s Witnesses, chick.com/reading/tracts/0026/0026_01.asp, which is, actually, somewhat accurate, and does an excellent job of demonstrating the scriptural support of the Trinity, he still has to put in his dig at the Catholic Church, claiming the Vatican is (big surprise…) responsible for their “New World Translation” Bible that they use.

If Chick is still alive, which it looks like he is, it might be a good idea to pray for St. Paul’s intercession that Jack Chick follow his example, and put his efforts toward advancing Christ’s church, rather than destroying it.

I don’t know who is Jack Chick, but I know that before you can call the person evil you need first to QUALIFY it. Specifically, what wrong has the person done (not according to what YOU think, but according to the standards & instructions laid down by God) ?

No one said he was evil, he said he uses his talents for evil. Since the bible prohibits false witness, which is exactly what libel is (in written form, false witness in verbal form is slander), then we can safely say that he is using his talents for evil.
Whether the man does some good or not is a completly different question.
