In the tract “Are Roman Catholics Christians?” I found the following errors about the Catholic Church:

"The Bible never mentions nuns, monks or popes. This system, along with the statues, candles and religious costumes, was created by the Roman Catholic church [sic] to impress its followers."

(Referring to Holy Communion): “The priest, with his “magical” powers turns the wafer into the Lord Jesus himself…Roman Catholics believe the priest is so powerful, he can pull Christ out of heaven, put Him on the cross, and sacrifice Him again during the Mass.”

“Roman Catholics must bow down and worship the little wafer as God…or else!”

“…Satan created a way to bring back…the continuous sacrifice of animals…to continue an ongoing sacrifice in the Roman Catholic mass [sic]. He’s got it going day and night, worldwide. It is so subtle and so clever, most people don’t see what’s going on.”

“Is Rome a militant “church”? Very much so!!”

(referring to the Sacrament of Confirmation): “How can Helen possibly be filled with the Holy Spirit? She can’t be…She knows she is not saved, not according to Roman Catholic teachings. She has no assurance of salvation, even through the six sacraments.”

"Poor Helen is completely brainwashed. She believes her system is the only way to heaven and the pope [sic] is the highest, purest form of Godliness on this planet. The Roman Catholic Institution claims it is infallible and has never lied nor made a mistake.

(referring now to death): "When Helen dies, where does she go? To Purgatory, of course! "

“Poor Helen…what a dismal future. The sacraments [sic] didn’t help her. She was betrayed.”

“When will Helen get out of purgatory? No one knows…** Money must be paid for masses to be said to help Helen get out.**”

“One of Satan’s dirtiest tricks is to take Roman Catholics through false hope, ** into the Lake of Fire**.”

“Purgatory was ** created by the Vatican as one of the greatest sources of money ever invented. Billions of dollars have made “The Whore” rich from poor Roman Catholic survivors who paid to get their loved ones out of purgatory.**”

These are some of the errors present in ** one** tract.

Are you referring to Rivera? It is claimed that he is an ex-Jesuit priest. Here is a good link (although it is from Wikipedia which IMO can be hacked into):

We’ll it’s all about keeping the focus on the argument an not at the poster…I learned alot on how mature one is in their walk with Christ by how they post…We can exude the fragrance of Christ even through the internet…Or the lack of it…Maturity or the lack of it is not made by the church one attends…

My learning of St. Ignatius and the Jesuits was the start of my journey home to the Catholic Church.

I often wonder if Luther was more like St. Ignatius, would there have ever been a reformation, but then I remember Satan would have just found someone else to start it. St. Ignatius was so humble and in the Spirit. He loved the Church even if not everyone was excepting him and his views. The Jesuit order shows how the Catholic Church does change and grow, when it is truly of the Holy Spirit.

Could Jack Chick be right? Right about what? He certainly is not right about Catholicism! Some examples of his take on Catholicism: the pope is a dope, the Eurcharist is a death cookie, and Catholics worship Mary. Very anti-Catholic in tone and way off base in what Catholics truly believe!

I do not know how he portrays other religeous groups; but I am sure that he lies about them just as much as he lies about Catholicism.

Very rabid anti-Catholic and not someone worthy of my time.

Just my take on Jack Chick.

If you look at Post #142 you’ll see that I quoted some errors from the Chick tract “Are Catholics Christian?” It’s not hard to see the errors but it’s very difficult for me to change them from the “comic book” format and type them. I believe you are right about the other faiths. I’ll be posting from another tract tomorrow.

Can you finally tell us WHY you think the above is wrong?
  • Don’t tell us your opinion. Tell us objectively WHY you disagree, that would mean a great deal of difference between someone who spouts gibberish and another who speaks with sensibility.

I think the Catholic Answers article on Jack Chick is appropiate. “The nightmare world of Jack Chick”. I think Jack Chick believes most of what we prints. Which is scary. His motivation seems pretty clear. Spread the gospel as he sees it. In his mind the Gospel is in line with the modern Christian movement that has its roots in the tent revivals of traveling preachers like Billy Sunday and more recently Billy Graham. Salvation in his mind is a simple “accepting Jesus into your heart and being born again” each of his tracts end with a breif review of the “Romans Road”. The problem is this simplicity is often upset by more educated scholarship of Theologians and questions as to if this is the whole picture confuses men like Jack Chick. To them the Gospel is simple and exposition is an attack on this Gospel. Catholics with Years of Theological exposition easily question the position of men like Chick so being in line with the reformers Jack looks at the Catholic Church and any Church which challenges his “born again” paradigm as a purposeful assult on that Gospel. Since, the information they present is similar he can only see it as being lead singlely by Demonic forces. Also Demons make an interesting study. Thus Jack Chick sees conspiracies everywhere. Of course because the Catholic Church had the Misfortune of being attacked by reformers calling the Pope the Anti-Christ Chick falls inline with this view. His heros like Bunyan are attacked by the Anglican Church so it must ultimately be under the same “influences” as the Catholic church. Thus the Catholic Church becomes the great Antagonist to christianity and all Christian symbols that can be related to similar pagan symbols must necissarily be part of this conspiracy. And when scholarship validates aspects of Catholic teaching then the scholarship becomes questionable. Finally, I believe Mr. Chick to be slightly unstable as one who sees conspiracies everywhere. Where Mr. Chick cannot make the puzzle fit he includes the Jesuits because they were a major educational force against the teachings of the reformers. So in short Mr. Chick has the intention to spread the Gospel as he understands it yet is comprimized by a disorder of seeing conspiracies everywhere and misapplying reformed predujices against the Catholic Church thus promilgating the propaganda of those same reformers. Also note he is not a scholar but a sensationalist. And he has been successful. I would be amiss in not stating that his tracts (the romans road aspect) has made people think about their lives and some are “born again” and I’m certian the re-enforcement of success to Mr. Chick allows him to think he is doing God’s will.
 
Isn’t Jack Chick also targeting non-denominationals?

Also, his choice of wording is hyperbole…the Church is trying to do this or that…paranoia and emotionally judging by appearances.

He serves a purpose, which I feel is to discourage believers in christ who are young and impressionable from seriously looking into RC. He writes in a cartoon fashion many times, and is looking to influence those who may not even read the Bible for themselves. He picks on children. While he may be a joke to the well read, his propaganda is a hazard. Perhaps counter-cartoons would be an effective weapon to reach his audience with more truthful and fair material.

They are vipers who prey on the ignorant, and the innocent. I see nothing Christian in his phamplets. The devil can quote scripture too.

I will try to help here. I numbered the points so that I can better answer.
  1. The Bible never mentions alter calls, bathrooms, or church socials, either. Monks and nuns are people who dedicate their lives to prayer or service to the church. The Pope is a bishop. Bishops are in the Bible.
  2. This was never Church teaching. Christ is not re-crucified. Christ is not “pulled” from heaven or anywhere else. There is no magic involved. The mass is the fulfillment of Christ’s command at the Last Supper.
  3. Again, this is just junk. Catholics do not worship anything like it is God or else, we are to worship God and God alone. Catholics do believe (based on the Bible) that Jesus is present in what looks like bread and wine, but if we are correct, and the bible says we are, we are worshiping God.
  4. Mass is not sacrificing Jesus again. I do not know where he gets his info. Jesus was sacrificed once and for all.
  5. I am not sure what he was saying, so I will not respond. The Church does consider all faithful on earth to be the Church Militant, as we are in a fight for our souls.
  6. First, there are seven sacraments, not six. Second, Confirmation, per the Bible, and baptism are the incoming of the Holy Spirit into the faithful. To deny that is to deny the Bible.
  7. The Church has never said that the Pope is the highest and closest thing to God on earth. The Church does teach that it has never been in error on matters of faith and morals, but that is not what he is implying
  8. Perhaps. She could go to heaven or hell, too.
  9. Again, not sure what he is talking about
  10. That is incorrect. People are “released” from Purgatory when they are ready for heaven. Masses being said for them or anything else are not required.
  11. Again, not sure of the context
  12. Incorrect. The Church did not invent Purgatory. Purgatory was part of the Jewish faith of the early Church. We held on to it because the Bible supports its teaching
 
Hehe, nope. This man is not right and is just crazy. Anyone that thinks he is right, read the Catechism of the Church. This one book should dispel every book he has written as well as most other myths about the Church.
 
That would be a good thing in my opinion, but Chick serves those who do not think so.

First you ask me to tell you why I think the above is wrong.

In the next sentence you tell me not to tell you my opinion.

Perhaps you should be a bit more clear about what you want me to do.
 
I think you just misread what was said. It happens to all of us from time to time. I get my best exercise sometimes by jumping to conclusions,🙂 so don’t feel bad, and I hope you stick around. You showed the good character to own up to an error ( a very small one at that) and in my humble opinion that makes your contributions all the more valuable.
