Could Muhammad of been a prophet?

Is it possible that Muhammad was a prophet of God? Can the belief in Jesus as our savoir and Muhammad as a prophet coincide? I don’t know much about Islam, but I’m quite curious about it.
He is a false prophet. If you want to know more, read any of Robert Spencer’s books on the subject. He is a Catholic and has done extensive study, fluent in Arabic and is very accurate in describing what Islam teaches. His latest book is promoted by CAL. He was recommended to me by a Muslim convert to the Catholic faith. You can’t combine the faiths no matter how hard some people try to in the name of tolerance and understanding. Islam may have in the Koran that there was a virgin birth but denies that Jesus died on the cross, (it was an imposter) and rose again from the dead. In essence, what we believe is considered a fraud.

The Comforter need not be a physical person. As Jesus mentioned, he is the Holy Spirit, not a physical person. In Christianity, and I believe Muslims may have similar spiritual experience - Mohammad did when the Angel Gabriel/Allah spoke to/inspired him, the message/teaching that come to us can be in a spiritual way. I am saying that for lack of word that you can identify with as a Muslim. A good example as I mentioned earlier was during the Pentecost - that when the Holy Spirit came, the apostles knew much knowledge and were even given miraculous power, all which were miraculously happening.

now what i cannot get my head around, was mohammed touched by the holy spirit?

would the holy spirit nearly kill you on talking to you?

would the holy spirit tell you to kill people that it had tricked into believing the faith it had given them?

would the holy spirit tell you to do all the violent and unadulterated things mohammed did?

would he tell you to steal, cheat mislead or LIE?

i do think the spirit was with him at the start of his life but i think he was no different than any body else… the only thing is that he became violent and thirsty for power, the spirit doesnt show itself in him after a short while.he started to think he was a God in my eyes…

im not being defensive, its just what i see,and what ive read…

is applicable to the word Muhammad in Arabic, since Muhammad means “the praised one.”
One of the 99 names of Allah

الحميد Al-Ḥamīd The All Praiseworthy

Isn’t that the same as “the praised one”

Isn’t there a verse in the Quran which speaks of another name for Mohammad as “Ahmad”

And you didn’t answer my other question.

Are all male Muslim children by the name of Mohammad as considered “the praised one”…???

Nope, it’s not just the name but all of the other factors which have been listed.

I misread what you said sorry, i really must be getting to sleep:yawn:
Ahmad literally mean “one who praises Allah more than others".
This characteristic is what separates Muhammad saw from other people who simply use the name Muhammad.

Perhaps in the sense that Christians believe to him a false prophet.

Remember what Paul states in Galatians 1:8:
*
“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”*

Seems quite clear.

Missy - do you want me to “show” you the Holy Spirit - ?? 😃
  • Because that is NOT possible…
Is that the evidence you are looking for? 🤷

Or is it Biblical…?
If the Holy spirit is not that is something that can be proved but only something that can be felt by a believer, why do some converts become Muslim just by reading or listening to the Quran the first time?

I think the point I’m trying to get at is everyone has their own ‘holy spirit’ that guides them then?

I understand your difficulty, you being a Muslim, with the Holy Spirit because you do not understand the Trinity. Christians understand that the Holy Spirit is God. You can only prove the Holy Spirit as much as you can prove God.

There were some Muslims who convert to Christianity after reading the Bible. That does not say or prove anything.

You are trying to explain the Holy Spirit from people experience. In answering your question, there is a way to discern whether the inspiration is from the Holy Spirit or not. Basically and fundamentally, and not to confuse you, it is from the Holy Spirit if it does not contradict what has revealed before by God/Jesus.
I think the point I’m trying to get at is everyone has their own ‘holy spirit’ that guides them then?
The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Trinity and he is God. The Holy Spirit is spirit and does not manifest in physical human body.

There are about three types of spirits, namely, the Holy Spirit, the Evil spirit and the human spirit. Any of these can influence and guide a person. That is why it is important to discern what that guides you.

Mohammad did have that kind of experience when he received the Quran. You have to discern what spirit that was talking to him.

Going back to the Comforter as the Holy Spirit. The Comforter cannot be Mohammad as Jesus was speaking to his apostles and that it would come to them. Mohammad came long after the apostles were gone so that alone rule out that he was not the Comforter mentioned.

You can learn more about the attributes of the Holy Spirit and why that attributes were spoken of by Jesus.

He Teaches:
*John 14:26
But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
*
He Testifies of Christ:
John 15:26
When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me.

He Convicts:
John 16:8
When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt [Or will expose the guilt of the world] in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment:

He Leads:
*Romans 8:14
Because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
*
He Reveals Truth:
**John 16:13
But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
**
He Strengthens and Encourages:
Acts 9:31
Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace. It was strengthened; and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it grew in numbers, living in the fear of the Lord.

He Comforts:
John 14:16
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

He Helps Us in our Weakness:

**Romans 8:26
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.
**
He Intercedes:
Romans 8:26
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express

He Searches the Deep Things of God
:
**1 Corinthians 2:11
The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God
**
He Sanctifies:
Romans 15:16
To be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles with the priestly duty of proclaiming the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become an offering acceptable to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

He Bears Witness or Testifies:

**Romans 8:16
The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
**
He Forbids:
Acts 16:6-7
Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to
.

Some of these attributes will make you understand why Jesus called the Holy Spirit the Helper, the Comforter, the Advocate and the Counselor. In Roman 8:6, it tells us that there is such thing as human spirit as well.

If he was a true prophet of God Catholicism and Christianity as a whole is wrong.

Thanks MJ. ;)🙂 I think most of us can articulate this very well and I am sure most can do better than me. The post that I am answering was to Jakasaki who perhaps was more versed with some of Islamic belief.

Narrated Jubair bin Mut’im: Allah’s Messenger (saw) said, “I have five names: I am Muhammad and Ahmad; I am al Mahi through whom Allah will eliminate Al Kufr (infidelity); I am Al Hashir who will be the first to be resurrected, the people resurrected thereafter; and I am also Al Aqib (ie there will be no Prophet after me) [Sahih al Bukhari, 4/3532 (O.P 732)]

would that be the qur’anic isa saying he will destroy the cross and the Christians on his return…

like i said why would Jesus do this to his followers?

since when did Jesus become a war monger?

since when has Jesus turned his back on people who follow him?

this is diabolical in the true sense of the word… that is why mohamed is not a prophet in my heart and eyes…

that is why the holy spirit is not with him, just look at what he was all about…

The history of Muhammad reveals that he was influenced heavily by the problems he saw in his own people. The main problem was that tribes would conduct vendettas against each other. Muhammad put a stop to this by uniting the tribes into worshipping Allah and following the Quran. If they all had a single purpose, the hope was that they would stop killing each other. Thus the idea of the ummah (community) became paramount.

But when Muslims started experiencing violent attacks by the Quraysh of Mecca, Muhammad saw a need to defend his people by military force. Thus the approval of violence in defense became established and is still advocated today.

Promoting the ummah is paramount in Muslim thinking. It was the basis for expansion of Islam with the idea that uniting people into one belief system would lead to eliminating violence between the various peoples. However, raids on caravans were still practiced, because this was tradition for hundreds of years. But no killing was supposed to happen. Just confiscation of goods was permitted.

The truth is that his preaching was rejected by his own tribe. He then attacked his own people to force conversions and the rest is history.
