Well, in my parish it seems like poeple do not take confession seriously.
Last sunday I was ready to go to confession before Mass, but the priest was not even in the cabinet of confession.

he was talking with poeple and I was not able to just get close to him and say “hey, go to the cabinet, I need to confess”.
Every Mass I feel awkward because I want to confess but at the same time NOBODY goes to confession and the priest is never in the confessional.

I am going to find other Chrurchs in other city,

If I die before finding a good Church to confess, will I go to Hell?

Many parishes do not have confessions on Sunday.
Have you checked to see when your parish has scheduled confession times? It is usually listed in the bulletin or on the website.

You can also make an appointment with your priest.

And finally, please do not judge how “serious” people are about their faith based on your inability to get to confession, that is rude.

What does this mean?

Confession does not usually happen during Mass or on Sundays in your typical American parish.

There are usually scheduled times for confession, apart from the Mass times.

I talked with the girl who works at the Church and she said the confession was before mass.
That’s in Brazil.

I would (and have) approached the priest for this well before Mass begins. I’ll arrive 45 minutes early and most priests will say yes as it’s plenty of time before they have to prepare for mass. Occasionally I’ve been asked to wait until after mass.

Maybe she was mistaken?

Best thing to do is call the Church during the week and find out when confession times are.

Simple.
  1. Make an act of contrition.
  2. Assert yourself! Break into the conversation. “Pardon me! Father, have time for a quick confession?” - Works every time. The Sacrament is much more important than casual talk.
  3. No, you will not go to hell. God is a God of love not of fear and anxiety. He is a God of peace, not of unease.
God knows your heart. Are you sorry for having sinned? Rhetorical question: Do you suffer from OCD/Scrupulosity?

I think reading this forum is making me be Scrupulous/OCD.

I am starting to think I will go to Hell immediatly for not Confessing to the priest, even if I am really sorry for my past sins.

I hope I have time for confession as soon as possible before I die.
It is just not being that easy because of the circumstances.

God does not obligate people to do the impossible. If you are trying to get to Confession and encountering difficulty, take solace in the inestimable mercy of God. God is not crouching in the dark ready to strike you down so that he can send you to hell on a technicality.

As others have suggested, try contacting your parish and make sure you have the time correct. Maybe Confession is only available before certain Masses, but not all? In any case, do your best to go, and don’t be afraid to mention to the priest that you are there for Confession if it is during the time for Confession and he is not in the confessional (the cabinet).

I know that’s not ideal to have to interrupt him and ask to go to Confession, but if you are there at the right time, then that’s what you may have to do. Just be polite about it, of course. 🙂

In my experience, most parishes have Confession sometime on Saturday.

Do you think the secretary meant Confessions are held before the Saturday night Mass rather than the Sunday Masses?

we have two different times for Mass on saturday.

4pm
7pm

do you think confession will only be at 7pm?
I will try going 4pm this saturday.

I think you should contact your parish to find out. At my parish, we have Confession before our Saturday evening Mass, but not before any of the Sunday Masses. You will want to make sure you know which Mass it will be before.

i believe the intention of confessing will pay a huge role if we die mortal sin
image a person who can’t get to confession without help (cripples, ect) who fall into mortal sin when they die and strongly wish to go to confession but no one will take them

i believe God who is kind, understanding, and merciful will surely not hold that against them
God is merciful to those without good reasons
He definitely will to people with Good Reasons

With respect from Christian to Christian: Nonsense!

An act of perfect contrition (look it up!) will cover you.

It seems that you have unreasonable fears. If you are under 18, please talk to mom/dad about this, as help is available. If you are 18 or older, ask your priest and/or doctor about help.

There is NO WAY you should live in constant fear!

p.s. “Or by appointment” Got a a phone? Call for a confession! Don’t box yourself into a corner - you have options.

I doubt Confession happens during Mass times.

Call the parish and ask “what time are confessions?”

Then you should take a break from the forums. God is merciful and just. He does not desire that you go to hell. He isn’t trying to catch you slipping so he can send you for your eternal torment.

Are you sorry for the sins you have committed? Do you desire to turn away from sin? Are you trying to go to confession regularly? If so, there is no reason for anxiety.

Trust in God’s mercy and be at peace.

We used to have confession for 30 minutes before Mass on Sat. & Sun. but one of the priests never sat in the confessional. If we wanted to confess we had to tap him on the shoulder and ask.
