Could not confess last sunday

If Mass is at 4 PM, then, Confessions would likely be at 3 PM - ish.

I too in the past have had to go and ask the sacristan if Father will be hearing confessions, and also Father himself if he would hear my confession - reason Father was not in confessional - not often people are waiting to go to Confession 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️

One parish near me has/had confession for only 15 minutes between 4:40pm to 4:55pm with Mass to begin at 5pm (Saturday night Vigil is the most common times here for Confession in most parishes).

@HSTV phone or look up parish website to check when confession is scheduled. Arrive 10-15 minutes before Confession is to start. If Father does not arrive within 5 mins of the scheduled time, go and find him or ask the sacristan if Father will hear your confession.

In the meantime, make a perfect act of contrition. This means to be genuinely sorry for having offended God, when you pray the act of contrition.

I admit, I am guilty of lack of confession. In our parish however it seems very hard (one priest covering three parishes) to get the priest for confession. it is by appointment only… The last time I got one it took roughly a month an a half from my actual request to the time I could get one. Speaking to Catholics from other nearby parishes, the situation seems similar… Lack of priests, priests covering multiple parishes…

That would be difficult to bear. Makes me more appreciative of the availability of confession I have here.
Maybe an idea would be to pray for an increase of vocations in your diocese (which won’t alleviate the present situation but would in time hopefully), and to ask God to send you an additional priest to your parish.

We used to have confession for 30 minutes before Mass on Sat. & Sun. but one of the priests never sat in the confessional. If we wanted to confess we had to tap him on the shoulder and ask.
At the abbey, which you are familiar with, confessions are 30 min. before Sunday Mass; the priest sits and waits in the Reconciliation Chapel (where there is a screen for those who prefer that method). I do face-to-face; I’m well enough known at the abbey that there’s no disguise possible! It’s also available before big solemnities, Holy Thursday, Good Friday.

At my parish where I rarely go to Mass these days, there is no formal confession time. However when I attended, if I needed to confess I simply got there early enough and asked the priest if he’d hear my confession. I was never refused. They have community reconciliation celebrations in Advent and Lent, where individual confessions are available with several priests.

Sometimes I go to St. Joseph’s Oratory in Montreal. Confessionals are manned by several priests, and the hours are extensive and daily: basically all day Sunday from 6:45 am 'till 8:15 pm with breaks at lunch and dinner time, and all morning, late afternoon, and evenings on weekdays. So there’s no excuse 😉

Oh, I’ve done the tap on the shoulder thing several times over the years. For 4 years we had no regularly scheduled confessions, the Pastor actually said, “Nobody ever shows up so I’m not wasting my time.” Then you had to tap him on the shoulder before Mass.

we have two different times for Mass on saturday.

4pm
7pm

do you think confession will only be at 7pm?
I will try going 4pm this saturday.
You keep talking about when the Masses are but have not yet answered the question of several posters which is when are the Confession times at your parish Church.

For example, at my parish Church Confession is Monday to Saturday (6 days a week for one hour in the evening).

I dont know

the girl who work at the Church just said “it is before Mass” when I asked.
