Could the Godhead be more than three persons?

I’d just say Jesus revealed three persons in ONE GOD, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. “Go and baptize in the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit…” he said.

Much of the world’s population make up their own gods, or follow the false gods that others have made. There is nothing - no argument, no words - that will ever convince a heart that is not seeking.

Whay would this fourth “Person” do? What would be “His” purpose, nature, and active role? Why would God have kept Himself hidden from us in this way?

A lack of evidence sometimes is evidence of a lack.

The problem with cherry-picking one verse and harping on that without context is that you end up believing self-contradictory things.

To you then Jesus is ‘a’ god not God.?
No. Those are your words and you know it. Don’t misconstrue what I’m saying. I already said Jesus is God. God is greater because Jesus said so. I believe him. You don’t.
We do. You just twist scripture to your own personal meaning rather than following the teaching of the Church Jesus established teaches on it.

Hey, if you’re going to throw out that we don’t believe Jesus, it’s fair game, because you clearly don’t believe him when he declared, “I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” If you wish to be more charitable towards our beliefs rather than accusing us of not believing him, mayhaps we’ll be with you.

You don’t serve by trying to make people believe that the Oneness Jesus taught He had with the Father isn’t such a profound union. The unity He has with His Father is more profund that it is inexpressible
Matthew 11:26

no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
That doesn’t make sense if they aren’t united in an inaccessible and exclusive union of oneness. Oneness that so profound it carries within it’s own kind of knowing. You would think other gods angels and such, would know the Father and Son just fine. without having to wait for a revealing,Aren’t they all gods?

We defend the Trinity because , quite simply, it’s Dogma.

Dogma
The name given to divinely revealed truths proclaimed or taught by the Church’s magisterium and promulgated by the highest Church authority; the faithful are obliged to believe these truths. The Church believes that in Scripture and Tradition God’s intention for humankind has been revealed to the ecclesial community and that the community’s leadership can authoritatively interpret and promulgate this truth.

John 13:16

Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent GREATER than he that sent him.
The Father eternally begets the Son, the Father sends the Son. The Father does not proceed, that which is revealed from eternal presence (Father) is greater than, that which is revealed in time and space (Son). Thus divine revelation reveals the Father (eternal presence) is greater than the Son (present in time and space).

The voice of God the Father sends the Word of God the Son to be incarnated, The logos made His presence known in space and time and made His dwelling among us.
The trinity doctrine wasn’t taught by Jesus or in the first few years of the church. It began somewhere in the 3rd century. So the man made doctrine of trinity is man made.
Correction; Divine revelation revealed the Father, Son, Holy Spirit singular name. When this divine revelation came under attack by heretics, the Catholic Church dogmatized the Father, Son, Holy Spirit singular name revealed in Trinity One God. Thereby separating the Sheepfold of Jesus Christ from the goats.

There is no doubt that Jesus is fully man. Jesus also revealed, “if you have seen me (the Son), you have seen the Father”. The Trinity doctrine confirms Jesus is fully man and fully God. If? you separate this definition or confuse this divine revelation, then you don’t have the True Trinity.

The Father, Son, Holy Spirit is divinely revealed in space and time by the Word of God made flesh (Jesus). The Catholic Church bind and loosed this divine revelation on the whole earth, Jesus bind and loosed it in heaven under the singular name Trinity.

The Trinity is never a man made doctrine. The Trinity of persons is a divine revelation.

Peace be with you

The Trinity doctrine was defined at the council of Nicaea in 325 I believe. It was in response to a division in the Church where some bishops were following Arius in the belief that Jesus was not God. Jesus certainly taught that he was God.

The Bible does not teach the Trinity directly. It teaches the Trinity in this manner:

1 - There is one God - This is taught in both the Old and New Testament
2 - The Father, the Son, and the Spirit are God
3 - The Father, The Son and the Spirit are distinct persons

The doctrine of the Trinity results from taking those three statements together. The Son, can pray to the Father because they are separate persons. Same for the Son declaring that the Father is greater than He. Remember Phillipians 2 “Have this mind among yourselves, which was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross.”

The Jehovah’s Witnesses for example deny the 2nd point so that is why they can’t accept the Trinity. The Trinity is revealed in scripture but the doctrine we have is somewhat imperfect in that its not something that can be easily grasped. Its simpler to just take the three points and declare them to be true. Not to different from trying to understand predestination and free will together.

To the OP, I too have also wondered if there could be more than three persons in the Godhead, but I echo what many have said here in that only 3 are revealed to us so going beyond that would just be speculation.

The first Adam heard the presence of the voice of God, God revealed His presence in the burning bush to Moses, God revealed His presence in the Shekinah cloud by day and in the fire by night, God revealed His presence in the Rock before Moses, God revealed His presence to Isaiah in the whisper of the wind, God revealed His presence in Ark of the Covenant. Because God revealed His presence in the aforementioned, does not make them gods.

God now reveals His presence in the Eucharist. This does not add to the Trinity of persons. When the Trinity of persons in divine Essence is eternal One, God. In the divine economy (in the sending from the Father, in the procession of divine revelation) of the Trinity of persons, God makes known HIs presence or divine revelation in the distinct persons of Father, Son, Holy Spirit= Voice (Father), Word (incarnate Son), Breath (Holy Spirit).

Peace be with you

I read your full commentary. There is confusion by your author’s interpretation of what is defined as the son of man, son of God, God the Son. Jesus fulfills all of the prophetic Psalm’s in the Son of Man, when He humbles Himself lower than the angels who are a created spirit, and became flesh.

When the Word of God, who is God takes on flesh, perfect human in all ways except sin. Becomes our savior of humanity or second Adam.

All things have been put under His feet, except death until He returns. Jesus is standing before heaven as the Lamb of God as thou slain, representing our humanity sacrificed in the Son of “all” Man. What Jesus finished, now sits at the right hand of God.

I am not confused by your post. I just don’t agree with it’s conclusion.

Peace be with you

The Trinity is never a man made doctrine. The Trinity of persons is a divine revelation.
I just don’t know how anyone can think that the human imagination could come up with the Trinity.
God would have become a man and dwell among men for us to know that

I was accused my of saying Jesus is "a god’ by the illustrious member Banadan.
That’s evident because you believe that they aren’t One God. You say three Gods are the Godhead

That makes Jesus one of the three gods
