Could The Mormon Church Be The "true Church" Of Christ

I think it is typical for most places to have some charge for a reception just to cover the expense of the lights, the cleanup afterwards, etc. It may not be a big charge, but it’s a charge.

It is also typical for some money to be given to the person who officiates at the wedding, it’s not thousands of dollars, and it is considered a gift, but it is still typical. Perhaps this would be something that is not done in any venue where a Mormon marriage is performed.
Correct. We would see this as “priestcraft” Simon Magus and all that. Nobody pays for anything in our church, yes we contribute tithing obviously but do not discriminate between tithe payers and non-tithe payers – everybody gets whatever services they need for “free”. No offerings for services at all. And that includes non-members who need food orders etc. We give away a LOT of food and have our own farms and canneries to grow it and package it. We used to have an orange grove in orange county that I usta go to work in occasionally and a big cannery in LA where we would go to can peaches and other fruit – it was capable of being a commercial operation, but was only to produce fruit to be given away. There are many church farms in Utah for the same purpose. What we don’t make we buy wholesale and give away.

I don’t know. After all I am invincibly ignorant, aren’t I? I’ll take my chances thank you. I know I am right.
I’m not going to address your first question. I’m sure you believe you are right.

But I still have the obligation to tell you. As Fr. Corapi has taught us ~ and I’m paraphrasing since I’m sure it’s not his exact wording ~ we do no one any good if we confirm them in their sin. (I think his exact quote may be “it is not charity to confirm someone in their sin” but I’m not sure.)

So now you know and you’ll do as you wish, but it will not be on my head for not telling you.

Oh but you do discriminate. Try getting into the temple even ONCE without tithing.

So you DO discriminate between tithe-payers and non-tithe-payers, but only on matters of eternal significance. 😃

Are you guys getting off topic? I remember “Queen for a Day” I didn’t like it that much but back in the ole days there was not a lot of stuff to watch especially during the day. Anyway, here is a repost of the prediction of Joe Smith,

I prophesy in the name of the Lord God–& let it be written, that the Son of Man will not come in the heavens till I am 85 years old, 48 years hence or about 1890." (Diary of Joseph Smith, April 6, 1843, quoted in The Revelations of Joseph Smith, p.345)

Is there anyone who doesn’t understand what “I prophesy” means?

Yeah, we are wandering.

Mormons seem to believe the prophecy was fulfilled based on belief alone.

It’s just more JS going on about his big bad self and how the world revolves around him.

I could prophesy the same thing. Christ won’t return any earlier than this afternoon.

Tomorrow we’ll celebrate the fulfillment of my prophesy.

Thanks you. You’ve told me you believe you are right. Many say that. And I will tell you that I believe I am right and now you have been told on the other side. And we will both reap the fruit of our decisions.

Attending the temple in this lifetime is not a matter of “eternal significance”. You should learn a little Mormon theology.

That is why we do work for the dead.

Dianaiad already answered this.

I know more about Mormon theology than you probably care for.

Going to the temple not a matter of eternal significance? Sure. Right. BALONEY.

It’s so good to know that it’s not important to tithe, it’s not important to take out your endowments, it’s not important to be sealed to your spouse and the rest of your family. None of that’s important. Good to know. I’m going to tell all my Mormon friends they can quit all that and save the money and all the time and effort.

Bukowski, all that veil worker stuff you’ve been doing ~ give it up! No need! Total waste of time and effort! Leave it to someone else to do after you’re dead!

So you see, Mormons DO discriminate. That’s just it, you do. There’s no other word for it. Someone can meet every other requirement except tithing and they won’t get a recommend. That’s discrimination pure & simple.

Have you told your prospective Catholic converts how much it’s going to cost them to be sealed for time and eternity in the temple? It’s probably going to be way more than the cost of a party for their daughter’s birthday!

Or is that something they get to find out later after they’re baptized? Something else that is being hidden from them?

They already pay tithing as catholics. Just a different name on the check.

The bible says to tithe. It’s not my fault if catholics generally don’t.

And because you don’t know Mormon theology you totally missed the important words in my post “in this lifetime”. You do not have to attend the temple in this lifetime.

And I am not a veil worker, but an ordinance worker. Because of your vast knowledge of Mormonism you know the difference.

And it is not a waste of time any more than your going to mass is. It is a sublime wonderful opportunity to feel closer to the savior than you can anywhere else.

Who rattled your cage today anyhow?

To answer the question posed in the topic I would say no. I don’t believe the book for mormon was inspired by God. The bible warns of false profets. I believe every profet that came after Jesus was not inspired by god. The bible warns about this.
So, are you saying that Peter was wrong to take the Church to the Gentiles?

After all, that happened after Christ, and it came by revelation.
And revelation comes to Prophets?

Oh, and were all the other Prophets mentioned in the New Testament false prophets then?

I don’t think so.

You better do a little more scripture study.

Tithe or no tithe, a Catholic can take the Eucharist at a Catholic church as long as they are in a state of grace.

But without tithing, no matter how otherwise worthy, a Mormon cannot enter the temple. That’s Economic Discrimination Mormon Style.

I notice you avoided my question about whether you told your potential converts about what it will cost them. But then, if typical, there’s a lot they haven’t been told.

I challenge you to tell them the whole story, help them calculate 10% of their income and see what all the “bells and whistles” is really going to cost them. You ridicule a priest for suggesting that a fee must the charged to use a building for a single event. Let’s see what the WHOLE TRUTH does for your comparison.

Tell them how much it’s going to cost them ANNUALLY to be a full Mormon, worthy of entry into the highest degree of glory in the Celestial Kingdom. The final Mormon price is probably way higher, but you conveniently forget that, then ridicule a priest for a charge far smaller, probably to help clean and maintain the building after a one time event. Hypocrisy.

Actually I do know the difference.

But for some reason I thought you had said you had been a veil worker. My mistake. OOOPS. I guess I’m going to hell now?

I’ll just say “Temple Worker” from now on, so you could be working in the laundry.

As for who rattled me cage, it’s not a who, it’s a what. Hypocrisy disgusts me. This whole business you’re doing is a big fat wad of it. You’re all sanctimonious about something if it’s Catholic, but if it’s Mormon, the same thing or even more so, well, that’s all good. And hiding things from potential converts is so obviously a way to trick them. That’s disgusting too.

Was it really their daughter’s 16th birthday they wanted a party for? or was it Quinceañera and you just translated for the benefit of the rest of us? I suspect there’s another layer here that you’re not talking about. But then hiding stuff is SO MORMON isn’t it?

**YES FOR THE THIRD TIME THEY HAVE BEEN TOLD ABOUT TITHING AND THEY ALREADY PAY IT! IT WILL NOT BE A SACRIFICE BECAUSE ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS WRITE THE CHECK TO US INSTEAD OF THEIR CHURCH

ARE YOU DEAF OR SOMETHING— THIS IS THE THIRD TIME
i think you have a problem with this issue.

AND IT SAYS IN THE BIBLE THAT YOU SHOULD TITHE TOO. DOES THIS MEAN YOU DON’T BELIEVE WHAT IS IN THE BIBLE, OR DO YOU JUST NOT DO IT?**

Yep I was translating it was a quincinera but I couldn’t spell it

You didn’t say your potential converts were specifically told and paid it.

You said that Catholics and Mormons both have tithing as a Biblical goal.

So you weren’t clear. Do not seek to have your lack of clarity somehow be a defect for me.

What I have a problem with is hypocrisy, hiding things, sneakiness, underhandedness, etc. All of which I have personally witnessed in the words and actions of Mormons attempting to convert people to their faith. A true faith doesn’t have to resort to such tactics.
