Could the next pope ordain women as priests?

Of course the pope can change things - that goes without saying - to increase membership of the catholic church that may not be a bad move - what Jesus did or did not say about the potential for women ordination is debated. The gospels were written at a very different time from today and do have a very ‘masculine’ view of the world.

If a pope can resign for pastures new then he can easily change catholic doctrine to allow female priests.
Your response that to increase membership in the Church, ordaining women as priests might not be a bad move, has proven just the opposite within the Anglican Communion. I am sure that if not upon thousands if not a million members of that denomination have left due to exactly the fact that they have allowed the ordination of women to the “priesthood” and even in some instances “bishops”. This plus a seculation of their beliefs have more or less destroyed the Anglican Communion.

Now there are many different groups of Anglicans who at one time were under one roof, can’t now agree to be unified as one.

This should be enough proof for anyone that once a denomination strays from Christ’s teachings they destroy themselves.

No it will never happen within Christ’s Holy Catholic Church. In fact the ordination of women among other heretical teachings have brought many former Anglicans into the Catholic Church.

I feel so ignorant. I guess I can’t know if I don’t ask and research. So…the links I posted were a particular ‘group’, of Catholics that are ordaining women? I thought Catholic was Catholic…I’m really in trouble.

The more I learn the more I am aware of how ignorant I am. Women who pretend to be ordained priestesses are excommunicated from the Catholic Church.

They are excommunicated Catholics if they were at one time members of the Catholic Church. Others in these groups were never Catholics, they were protestants or members of other break-away groups.

These groups are not Catholic, even if they may have the word “catholic” in the name of their group or website. They are being deceptive.

Catholics are in union with the Pope. If they are not, you can be assured you should stay away from them.

You’re not really answering my question (by the way, I oppose women being ordained).

Not every word that comes out of a Pope’s mouth is a teaching that never, ever can be changed no matter what.

What exactly must a Pope say (and how, and to whom) for a teaching of any kind to rise to the level of “this can’t be changed ever”?

Please cite some authority for your answer.

Thanks.
First Vatican Council:
we teach and define as a divinely revealed dogma that when the Roman pontiff speaks EX CATHEDRA, that is, when,
in the exercise of his office as shepherd and teacher of all Christians,
in virtue of his supreme apostolic authority,
he defines a doctrine concerning faith or morals to be held by the whole church,
he possesses, by the divine assistance promised to him in blessed Peter, that infallibility which the divine Redeemer willed his church to enjoy in defining doctrine concerning faith or morals. Therefore, such definitions of the Roman pontiff are of themselves, and not by the consent of the church, irreformable.

Wherefore, in order that all doubt may be removed regarding a matter of great importance, a matter which pertains to the Church’s divine constitution itself, in virtue of my ministry of confirming the brethren (cf. Lk 22:32) I declare that the Church has no authority whatsoever to confer priestly ordination on women and that this judgment is to be definitively held by all the Church’s faithful.
It doesn’t get more infallible than this.

Keep in mind that this breakaway group has broken away in other ways as well. That is, I read some profiles of some of its members/associates. Many of them are Out and Proud  and directly oppose the Church’s teaching on sexuality, the family, and much else.

Here’s my problem with the whole illogic of it all:

They believe that they have private authority to ‘ordain themselves’ (essentially).
Ergo, They do not believe that moral authority resides with the Magisterium in Rome.
Ergo, The validity of the Sacraments (they would logically have to believe) does not reside exclusively within jurisdictions in communion with Rome.

Ergo, Why Stay Catholic? (Even “in name?”)

Go be Episcopalian or some other denomination that approves of heterodox sexuality, that ordains women openly without having to travel on the high seas, and which believes its Eucharist is valid.

PROBLEM SOLVED.

But you see, that would mean that they were not “controversial,” but merely blended in.

Can’t have that. :tsktsk:

They have no interest in finding an approved home for their heterodoxy. They want to remain a problem. More fun that way.

As usual.
