I am sorry that I am coming across the wrong way. Let me set this as straight as I can. I do not support abortion (I used to support abortion in the case of rape, incest but I no longer do). Support of a candidate who does not completely align with my beliefs does not constitute (to me) as support of all their views. If this were the case… why vote?
I appreciate your clarification.
Now about supporting candidates…
I’m sure (maybe throwing some hope in there - ) I want to hope I’m sure that we all recognize a gradation of the gravity of evils. If I’m cold and starving, and there’s a man who’s trying to kill his wife, I should hope the government concerns itself first with preventing the man from killing his wife.
Now it wouldn’t take much (hypothetically. say, if they dedicated themselves to the task) for the government to say that abortion is wrong in all circumstances by outlawing it. It is a bigger task to then provide support and community for those who had previously held abortion as a fall-back option (maybe not explicitly, but action often belies thought). But the situation at present is that clinics that try to help mothers
and their unborn are often discriminated against and even pressured to close by those who see their business decline. (ok, pressured is an egregious understatement).
Is this completely different than the government dedicating more resources to protecting a woman from her husband? I think not.
Now, even if you will only admit two candidates, a minimum look at the voting records shows a lot of differences in their views on how legal abortion should be. BO thinks it a horrible tragedy, but one that should be readily available to all who want it (correct me if I mischaracterize). His opponent thought it should be illegal in all cases except a very certain few. If the government will not stop all murders, isn’t it better to focus on preventing more rather than fewer?
Have you ever been in the situation that you needed help, but you were not the right color, ethnicity, sex, or look (for that matter). It is not a good feeling when no one cares about you while you live in a roach infested apartment, while fighting for our country. We need to help all, not just the unborn. That is why I voted for Obama… I do not want to pad the wallets of the already super-rich.
I thought this was a good response to the usual rhetoric about the rich need more taxes:
