Couple set up online poll to decide on abortion

One can only hope this is some prank. If not one would almost consider the baby might be better off dead with parents like these.

A US couple who are expecting a baby boy are asking internet users to vote on whether or not they should have the child aborted.

Alisha Arnold is 16 weeks pregnant but she and husband Pete have opened an online poll because they are unsure if they want to be parents, the New York Daily News reports.

It’s disturbing, but not nearly as disturbing as the actions of all the parents who summarily decide to have their baby murdered with little or no discussion, advice or even thought. At least this couple are seriously thinking about what they’re doing. That’s an essential first step. We cannot do the right thing without first knowing right from wrong, to do which we must first think about it and often discuss it with others.

Yes the internet is full of nutjobs but many people have nutjobs among their real life friends, relatives, colleagues and even their so-called “doctors”, “nurses” and “counsellors”.

And furthermore I think it’s quite likely that this poll will save quite a few babies’ lives, by making people actually think about what an abortion entails - that it really is a human being that they are considering killing. Many people who instinctively say “oh yes of course a woman has a"right” to “control her own body”" may be confronted with the reality. The one thing that pro-abortionists dread most of all is people actually thinking about what really happens in an abortion. Because if they think about it, many people won’t go ahead with it. And this poll could cause many people to think about it in a rational way before they themselves are placed in the highly emotional state of being confronted with a so-called “unwanted” pregnancy.

Well im pro-life, but not for christian views. A lot of abortions are because of ‘accidents’, as far as Im concerned if your dumb enough to go out, get drunk, have unprotected sex and get knocked up then you should not be allowed to simply hit a ‘reset’ button. I only agree with abortion if the childs life will be horrible (born with debilitating deformities) or the mothers life is threatened by the pregnancy. Everyone else should have their child and if they dont think they are fit to be a parent then put it up for adoption.

You know, there was an interesting “How to prevent rape” article that was floating around not long ago that focused on telling the guys to keep their hands to themselves and that anything less than full consent from a sane adult was rape- Even in the case of married or sexually active couples. (And even if one consenting partner withdraws their consent during the act itself, stop really does mean stop.)

Back to the OP, I think its a stunt in poor taste. I read somewhere that both are really pro-life. I lost the article, unfortunately, else I’d link to it. Its like PETA, except it is a pro-life message. Next they’re going to be splashing people outside of clinics in fake blood and paying naked models to lay in the fetal position.

I wish “adoption” was on the list of choices. Or, if they want to give a valid choice to the pro-choice people, “This is not my decision to make” would be nice too.

Actually, one of the first abortion protests took place with a bunch of protesters rushing into the clinic when it opened and laying in the fetal position. The idea was to take on the helplessness of the fetus, and show the violence done in removing the protesters (who had to be carried out). This harkens back to tactics of the Vietnam era - and the protest leader was a young priest whose brother had been killed in Vietnam.

At least, that’s what I got from “Wrath of Angels”, which tells the history. I don’t know how unbiased it is, but that’s a memorable moment. Along with the first Right to Life March in D.C. Police came in to arrest the marchers, and the group they approached happened to be a bunch of Pentecostals who suddenly felt the Spirit and fell to the ground, shaking and rolling and speaking in tongues. Police backed off.

I wish “adoption” was on the list of choices. Or, if they want to give a valid choice to the pro-choice people, “This is not my decision to make” would be nice too.

I was more referencing (mocking?) PETA for their highly sexualized tactics of getting naked women to lay on the cement under plastic so it looks like they’re a piece of meat and their destruction of property as they ambush celebrities to throw fake blood on fur coats.

The protest you mention is interesting though. Not nearly as abhorrent as PETA’s stunts and more reminiscent of the civil right sit ins at bars and restaurants.

The site is just being polemic and the owners of it will probably laugh all the way to the bank. They must be making a killing on ad-sense. At least baby will have everything it needs.

PETA tends to go too far. In 2004, right before Easter, they bought billboard space within easy sight of the parish I was attending. The ad showed a pig standing in a verdant pasture. The message: “He died for your sins.” Granted, the parish was reasonably close to the highway, but there were a number of other billboards that were blank, so I have to think the placement was intentional.

Update:

Poll has closed with a 3:1 in favor of abortion, BUT:
“The total number of fraudulent votes for aborting the pregnancy is astounding. I have no idea why people would go to the lengths that they did to submit fraudulent votes towards abortion.”

And I wonder if they really were intent on going through with an abortion or if that was a needed foil in order to get honest responses.

We all know that sex can lead to pregnancy, so taking precautions is the right thing to do. Admittedly, even the best precautions don’t always work, which is why abortion is on the table as an option. But if an individual finds that they need multiple abortions over time it may be the right decision for them to take more permanent measures (IUD, sterilization, etc.), but again it is always the woman’s right to choose and so it’s her responsibility to make the right decision for herself and her potential child.

I’d add that the decision starts in the bedroom and shouldn’t be something you wait on til later. Other husbands who practice NFP with their wives know that this means some sacrifice and sometimes changes to evening plans, but this is an honest and Godly morality to uphold.

Send these folks a message wishing them a safe pregnancy and asking them to post photos of their baby when it is born.
